All players gather all of the dice from their respective conveyor belts and roll them onto the table to begin a round. Then, without altering their expressions, everyone sets their dice back on their conveyor belts and moves on.
Everybody Takes a Turn
Players take turns by rotating around on the red-bordered conveyor belt. Once each player has taken a turn, the game shifts to the next player to the left. Perform the following two actions in the following sequence when it is your turn:
Use any number of menu and/or chopsticks tokens.
- To begin, return one of your menu tokens to the supply, if applicable.
- Then you may choose any number of dice off your conveyor line and re-roll them on the table to see who wins.
- Place them back on the conveyor line in the same condition as they were rolled.
- Remove one of your chopsticks tokens from play and place it back in the supply.

However, if you choose wasabi early in the round and then later in the round draft a nigiri, you can combine the two drafts.In order to remind myself that they are a combination, I set the nigiri on top of the wasabi die.When you accomplish this, the nigiri score is increased by thrice.In other words, an egg nigiri served with wasabi becomes a 3VP dish instead of the regular 1VP dish.
Salmon increases in value from 2VP to 6VP.The value of rare squid nigiri has increased from 3VP to an incredible 9VP!There is only one nigiri that may be placed on the wasabi.Furthermore, if you draft the nigiri first, you will not be able to later add it to a drafted wasabi dish.You must pick them in a precise order: wasabi first, then the rest.
You will not receive any points if you draft a Specials die with the Menus face on it.Rather than this, you will be given two Menus tokens from the available supply.In the same way, if you pick a Chopsticks die, you will not receive any points.Chopsticks tokens, on the other hand, are given to you.One Chopsticks face has a single chopstick on it, while the other has two chopsticks on it.What makes you think you’d choose Menus or Chopsticks in such case?
Menus and Chopsticks: Mitigating Stale Die Rolls
I noted previously that you must draft a dice on your turn in order to proceed.However, owing to the Menus and Chopsticks tokens, you may take advantage of these additional actions if you want to do so in your game.On your turn, you may spend a Menus token to re-roll any number of dice on your Conveyor Belt, up to the amount of Menus tokens you have.This might be as simple as re-rolling a single die and leaving the rest of the dice as they are right now.It may be as simple as re-rolling all of your dice – or anything in between.
You’re still not getting the results you want?Alternatively, you can use another Menu token to try again.But keep in mind that if your tokens are depleted, they’re gone for good.Creating a Specials die with a Menus face is the only way to ensure that you get more of them.
Chopsticks are the ace in the hole in this situation.Each turn, you have the option of returning a Chopsticks token to the supply or taking any dice from an opponent’s Conveyor Belt tile during your turn.(Please note that this is not a die that they have drafted and placed on their Tray.) You may use this method to obtain the valuable or uncommon die face you require in order to make a large sum of money quickly and easily.Want to get your hands on some squid nigiri to put on top of your wasabi?Do you want to get your hands on that rare, delectable third sashimi?

Two is veiled in guile and deception.A dice type can be given from one person to another with the understanding that the die will be passed clockwise at the conclusion of each turn.Of course, the only thing you can ensure is the die type, not the precise face of the die.At your risk, you should not underestimate the power of Menus and Chopsticks.They provide you with an unrivaled degree of adaptability and freedom.If you don’t have them, you’ll be a victim of circumstance, forced to draft whatever rubbish you roll.
The worst-case situation is that you don’t use up all of the tokens you’ve earned.Don’t be concerned.If you still have two Menus/Chopstick tokens left over at the conclusion of the game, you will receive an additional one victory point.Win-win!
Scoring At The End Of The Rounds

The player boards clearly indicate not just how each die counts points, but also the faces of each of the dice, which is a helpful feature (so you know the odds of rolling something).This went a great way toward assisting in the teaching of the game.In fact, it is easier to teach this than it is to teach Sushi Go!since all of the information is available.

Sushi Go!outperforms Sushi Roll in this area.Given that each player must take their turn one at a time, reaching the 5 player mark may take a little longer, resulting in extra downtime.Due to the fact that Sushi Go!allows for simultaneous turns, this is not an issue for that title.Sushi Roll, on the other hand, has a greater interaction rate even at lower player counts, which leads me to recommend it.
I was prepared to dismiss Sushi Roll as a pointless derivative of the popular Sushi Go!franchise, but I’m happy I didn’t.To be quite honest, I ended up appreciating this one even more than the original.For me, the simplicity with which this game can be taught and the enhanced player engagement makes it an all-around winner.There is one thing that it truly lacks, and that is the additional diversity that can be found in Sushi Go Party (which is a fantastic sequel to Sushi Go!).
Hopefully, in the future, expansions will allow for this to be accomplished in some way.However, for the time being, Sushi Roll is a fantastic adaptation of an already wonderful family-friendly game.Sushi Go!and Sushi Roll are two games that I don’t need need to possess, but I’m delighted to have Sushi Roll (to play with new gamers) and Sushi Go Party (to play with friends) (to play when we need a bit more depth).
