  4. Place the knife blade exactly where you want the cut to begin (as shown in the figure) and press down firmly with your thumb.

  1. Maintain control of the onion with your left hand, curling the tips of your fingers in (this technique makes cutting safer since your knuckles prevent the knife edge from coming into contact with the tips of your fingers).
