  • Foods to avoid when you have the flu

You might think that nothing can help you feel better when you have the flu, and you would be right (or worse).Relief, on the other hand, may come from an unexpected source.Surprisingly, certain foods may actually make your flu symptoms worse – or better — without you ever understanding what is happening.

Because flu symptoms can include nausea and stomach issues, it is common for those suffering from the flu to have difficulty eating. It is possible to experience nausea and then develop gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea if food is ingested too soon after feeling sick.Eating meals that are high in nutrients is beneficial no matter what sort of illness you are suffering from.In fact, it is especially vital when you are suffering from a temperature. Not all food, however, is made equal. While comfort foods may be what you crave when you’re not feeling well, they aren’t always the most effective way to make you feel better.

    1. In fact, I’d advise avoiding your favorite comfort foods if you’re feeling sick, as you may end up developing a dislike for them if you eat them while feeling sick.
    2. When you have the flu, I recommend that you avoid the following four foods:

    1. Caffeinated drinks and alcohol

The risk of dehydration increases when you have a fever because of the high temperatures and increased perspiration associated with the illness. The use of caffeinated beverages and alcoholic beverages might exacerbate your symptoms (particularly stomach-related problems), therefore I recommend drinking plenty of water and other clear liquids throughout the day to keep hydrated.

    2. Greasy foods

You’ll want to stay away from meals that are tough to digest and that are rough on your digestive system in general. Meals rich in saturated fat, as well as fried and greasy foods, should be avoided or consumed in moderation.

    3. Hard to digest grains

Due to the fact that the flu can occasionally produce an upset stomach, it is advisable to consume meals that are simple and easy to digest, such as simple or refined carbohydrates. When you have the flu, foods such as dry saltine crackers, toast, and pretzels are easy on the stomach and are more likely to be tolerated than other foods.Having said that, foods that are heavy in fiber are also more difficult to digest, so I’d recommend avoiding them at least for a short period of time.

    4. Sugary food or drinks

Though vitamin-c-rich fruit juices may seem like the greatest thing to drink when you’re ill, the majority of these selections are not nutritionally dense and might actually aggravate an already-weakened immune system. I’d recommend drinking plenty of water and other clear beverages to remain hydrated once again.

    What should I eat instead?

When you’re unwell, broth-based soups are a wonderful choice since they’re not only easy to take, but they also help to restore any fluids and salt that may have been lost during your illness. If you’re losing a lot of fluids due to stomach difficulties (vomiting or diarrhea), electrolyte-containing beverages such as sports drinks or Pedialyte will help you stay hydrated more effectively than plain water.Once you’ve mastered the ability to handle liquids, begin gradually transitioning to soft, bland meals that are less prone to cause nausea.

I’d also advocate eating small, frequent meals once you’re able to eat again, because some individuals have nausea worsened by eating on an empty stomach.

How To Reheat Your Cold Pequod’s Pizza Deep Dish Pizza

Are you interested in having Pequod’s delivered to your residence anywhere in the United States? You’ll need to know how to reheat pizza if you want it to taste exactly like the pizza you get when you go out. Cooking it in a pan, toaster oven, or in the oven are the three most common methods.

    Reheat In a Traditional Oven

The conventional oven is the most effective method of reheating a pizza.Preheat your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit before beginning to make a standard pizza. This is an important step since you want to reheat the food rather than burn it.

Wrap an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet in aluminum foil while your oven is heating.Spray a thin coating of cooking spray on the aluminum foil to prevent the pizza dough from sticking.Using a frozen Pequod’s Pizza, you will want to preheat the oven to 425 degrees before reheating it.Remove the cover off the pizza and set it on the center rack of the oven, where it will bake for around 15 minutes. After that, you’ll be able to sit back and enjoy your Pequod’s pan pizza. To finish your pizza, spritz it with a fine mist of water before cutting it into slices.

    1. When you spray your pizza crust with a small mist of water, it expands rather than becoming rough, chewy, or even too soggy.
    2. Place another piece of aluminum foil loosely over the top of the pizza to prevent it from getting soggy.
    3. This second layer of aluminum foil will aid in preventing moisture from escaping during the cooking process and will prevent the pizza from burning throughout the baking phase.
    4. The pizza should be placed on the lowest oven rack once it has been preheated in the oven.
    5. It is recommended that you bake for between 20 and 30 minutes.
    6. Start by setting a timer for 20 minutes so that you may start checking on it every five minutes until it reaches the temperature you wish.

    Reheating Pizza in a Skillet

Cooking your pizza on the stovetop at medium-high heat is recommended if you’re using a pan to reheat your pizza.Prepare your skillet by coating it with a thin layer of olive oil and heating it on the stovetop.Reduce the heat to medium after the oil has begun to warm.

Placing your leftover pizza on the skillet and covering it with aluminum foil is a good idea. You require protection because this is a critical phase. The cover aids in the melting of the cheese as well as the warming of the toppings.Additionally, it will aid in the preservation of the proper moisture balance.Once the pizza has been covered, it should be cooked for three to six minutes.

Reheating Pizza in a Toaster Oven

Another popular method for reheating pizza is to use a toaster oven.Don’t heat your pizza in the microwave, as it will be soggy and possibly unappetizing.Instead, heat it in the toaster oven, which will preserve your pizza’s signature qualities.

Place your pizza in the toaster oven and turn the oven on to medium heat.Try it out for one cycle and see how it goes.Perhaps a second cycle of heating will be necessary to prevent the crust from becoming mushy or too soft.

    Reheating Frozen Pizza

In order to reheat frozen pizza, it is also necessary to cook it in the oven.Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake the pizza for 35-40 minutes, depending on how thick you like it.When the crust is golden brown, the dish is finished.

Heat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit before baking a frozen pizza from Pequod & Company.Remove the cover off the pizza and set it on the middle rack of the oven, where it will bake for around 35-45 minutes.Who’s ready to get some deep dish pizza delivery now that you know how long to keep your pizza leftovers, how to store your pizza in the fridge, and how to reheat your pizza?Through Goldbelly, Pequod’s is now available for delivery throughout the United States.Put in your order today and get your favorite deep dish pan pizza delivered straight to your door.

The Best Foods to Eat When You’re Sick

While there is no one diet that will heal disease, eating the appropriate foods can occasionally alleviate symptoms and make you feel better. It’s important to remember, though, that what works for one individual may not work for another. When you’re not feeling well, the most beneficial thing you can do is concentrate on what will assist you and what will sound good.

Cleveland Clinic is a not-for-profit academic medical facility located in Cleveland, Ohio.Advertising on our website contributes to the success of our mission. We do not recommend or promote any items or services that are not provided by the Cleveland Clinic.Policy Andrea Dunn, RD, a registered dietitian, explains what foods and beverages to consume when you’re feeling a little under the weather.

    Foods to eat when sick

When considering what things to consume when you’re unwell, Dunn recommends categorizing them into three fundamental categories:

    1. Dehydration can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor nutrition and lack of fluid intake.
    2. A list of foods and beverages to consume or drink when your gut is unwell (such as diarrhea)
    3. Choosing what to eat or drink while you’re feeling nauseated (or have a stomachache)

What to eat when you’re dehydrated

    • While ill and not feeling well, you may find that you have no appetite or that you are unable to keep anything down for an extended period of time. However, if you do not consume any food or drink, dehydration can swiftly set in. ″When we’re unwell and don’t feel well, dehydration is frequently a contributing factor,″ says Dunn. ″It’s possible that you’re vomiting up or needing to go to the restroom every five minutes,″ says the doctor. ″Alternatively, you may be feeling sick to your stomach and have no desire to eat.″ Dehydration, on the other hand, is one of the most common causes for patients to visit the emergency department when they are unwell. You might be so dehydrated that you are unable to move, or you could pass out and smash your head on anything. The effects of moderate to severe dehydration must be treated immediately. Dehydration, if left untreated, can lead to urinary or renal difficulties, convulsions, and even death if not treated quickly and effectively. The following are some suggestions on what to eat and drink when you’re dehydrated or want to prevent being dehydrated: Beverages. It makes no difference if the beverage is hot, cold, or room temperature
    • any form of liquid will aid in the prevention of dehydration. Simply attempt to keep your drink intake consistent throughout the day. Water, electrolyte or sports drinks, coffee, tea, juice, soda or carbonated water are all good options. Soup is also a good option. There’s a reason why chicken noodle soup is the go-to dish for most people when they’re feeling under the weather. Because it includes more calories, protein, and vitamins than plain water, it is often more satisfying than plain water. Liquids and electrolytes can be found in abundance in this region. For those who do not find this classic soup appetizing, there are many alternative varieties of soups and broths to choose from that provide additional calories and moisture. Aside from that, when served hot, soup and other liquid-based foods can have a natural decongestant effect on the body. You should choose foods that are mostly liquid in nature but are served cold or frozen if you are having trouble drinking fluids. Foods such as ice cream, popsicles, Jell-O, and pudding should be tried.
    • Fruit. The vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in fresh fruit are essential for your body’s nutritional needs — even when you aren’t sick! It is beneficial to consume fruit when you are feeling under the weather since it provides a vitamin boost as well as water. Choose juicy fruits that contain largely water, such as melons, berries, oranges, and grapes, as opposed to dry fruits.

What to eat when your gut is sick

    • Diarrhea occurs when food moves through your body at an excessively rapid rate. Concentrate on consuming meals that can help to slow down this process, which includes focusing on foods that are high in soluble fiber. This sort of fiber serves as a thickening agent and gives the stool more shape, which helps it to move more slowly. According to Dunn, when your stomach is unwell, you should avoid or restrict your intake of coffee and sugar alcohols. Caffeine might cause your digestive system to become overstimulated, making diarrhea worse. Sugar alcohols are not absorbed in the gut and instead remain in the large intestine, causing bloating, stomach discomfort, and increased diarrhea in some people. When your gut is ill, here’s what you should eat and drink: Anything that is allowed on the BRAT diet. Mom was absolutely correct. A diet consisting of bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast (sometimes known as the BRAT diet) is recommended. When it comes to easy meals, most people who suffer from diarrhea can manage a few of these bland items. Very basic and bland meals can help alleviate symptoms, despite the fact that they are not particularly appetizing. Pasta, dry cereals, oats, bread, and crackers are all good options. However, just because something is bland does not rule out the possibility of adding protein or vegetables to the mix if you’re feeling adventurous. Try eating rice and roasted chicken breast, or cheese and crackers, along with some fruits and veggies to bring your energy levels up. Make an effort to include boiled or baked potatoes as well as winter squash and baked apples as well as applesauce or bananas.

What to eat when you’re nauseous or have a stomachache

    • Feeling queasy may cause your entire day to be derailed, whether you have the stomach virus, food illness, or are pregnant. And nausea can manifest itself in a variety of ways, ranging from vomiting to a general sensation of queasyness to dry heaving and more. In order to avoid being dehydrated, Dunn recommends eating every two to three hours while feeling nauseated or experiencing stomach pain. ″Eating tiny quantities more frequently can assist in getting a small amount of food into your system at a time.″ When you’re feeling nauseated, here’s what to eat and drink: Ginger. This spice is well-known for its ability to alleviate nausea. Try ginger snaps, ginger ale, ginger tea, or sucking on a few pieces of ginger candy to get the ginger flavor in your mouth. The 14 Best Foods to Eat When You’re Nauseous

The uncomfortable and often debilitating sensation of having to vomit is referred to as nausea. It’s surprisingly frequent, with 50 percent of individuals reporting that they had experienced it at some point in the past year.First used in connection with motion sickness, the name ″naus″ is derived from the Greek word ″naus,″ which literally translates as ″ship.″ Neuralgia is caused by a series of events in the brain, including emotional, cognitive, and pharmacological triggers.

These events can activate your nerve system, causing your stomach muscles to malfunction and making you feel sick.Infections, surgery, gastrointestinal illnesses, drugs, cancer therapy, hormone abnormalities, pregnancy, and food allergies and intolerances are just a few of the factors that might set off this process.Others include stress and anxiety.Despite the fact that eating and drinking might be difficult when you are unwell, they are essential for hydration, restoring lost electrolytes, and assisting your stomach in settling down. Here are the 14 healthiest foods and beverages to consume when you’re feeling nauseated or sick.

    1. Ginger

Ginger originates from Southeast Asia and has a long history of use as a remedy for stomach problems in traditional and folk medicine (1, 2).It contains bioactive compounds, such as gingerol, paradol and shogaol, which are thought to interact with your central nervous system and stomach to improve nausea symptoms (1, 3).Several small studies have shown that eating ginger may reduce nausea caused by motion sickness, surgery and chemotherapy, though some results have been contradictory (1, 2, 4, 5, 6).Additionally, ginger may be a safe and effective treatment for morning sickness during pregnancy (7, 8, 9).Though there is no consensus on the amount of ginger necessary to achieve therapeutic effects, most studies use the equivalent of 0.5–1.5 grams of dried ginger root per day.Ginger is commonly consumed as tea, ginger biscuits, crystallized ginger or ginger beer or ale. It’s also available in capsule form. However, bear in mind that some products may not contain significant quantities of ginger, minimizing their effect on nausea.Summary Consuming 0.5–1.5 grams of ginger root per day has been found to be effective at treating nausea due to motion sickness, surgery, chemotherapy and pregnancy. However, study results have been mixed.

    2. Water and Clear Beverages

When you’re nauseous, you may not feel like eating at all. However, drinking fluids and staying hydrated is crucial, especially if you have been vomiting or have a fever.Water is always a good source of hydration, but if you have been throwing up or experiencing diarrhea, you may also need to replace lost electrolytes. Some of the best drinks to fight dehydration and nausea include (10, 11):

    • Water
    • Oral rehydration solutions
    • Sports drinks
    • Soda water or flavored sodas
    • Iced tea
    • Clear juices
    • Coconut water

The use of extremely sugary, caffeinated, or dairy-based beverages may aggravate your nausea, so it may be better to avoid them altogether. If you have been vomiting, you may find that drinking little amounts of cold liquids throughout the day is more tolerable than drinking a large amount at once.Summary It’s critical to keep hydrated, especially when you’re feeling under the weather.

When you’re feeling sick, clear, cold liquids such as water, oral rehydration treatments, iced tea, juice, sports drinks, and coconut water can be consumed throughout the day as needed.

    3–5. Crackers, Pretzels and Toast

Dry foods such as crackers, pretzels, toast and cereals are often recommended to people experiencing nausea. In fact, one study found that almost 90% of gynecologists recommend soda crackers to women with morning sickness (12, 13).It’s not clear why people tolerate dry, plain foods when they’re nauseous, and no scientific research on the topic exists. However, it’s known that people feel more nauseous on an empty stomach and react poorly to strong-smelling foods (12).That’s why it’s best to avoid preparing and cooking food when you’re sick, as the sight and smell of food could trigger nausea.Crackers, pretzels, toast and cereals are quick meal fixes that require little to no preparation, have no strong odor and may help settle your empty, upset stomach (12).Summary An empty stomach and strong-smelling foods can trigger or worsen nausea. Crackers and other plain, dry foods may help settle your stomach.

    6. Cold Foods

When you’re sick, you may tolerate cold foods better than warm dishes. That’s because they generally don’t have strong odors, which may trigger nausea (12).Aversion to odor is particularly common during pregnancy. One study found that 41% of pregnant women experienced aversion to food smells and were more likely to be affected by nausea (14).Some good choices of cold foods include Jell-o, ice cream, chilled fruits, yogurt, custard and frozen popsicles. If your nausea makes it difficult to keep food down, simply sucking on an ice cube may help. This is also a good way to slowly replenish your fluids.Summary Food smells can trigger nausea. Therefore, cold foods that produce less odor like popsicles, Jell-o, chilled fruits and ice cream are often better tolerated.

    7. Broths

Chicken broth and chicken soup are common home remedies for everything from headaches to colds to fevers.Fluids are often better tolerated when you’re nauseous. That’s why broths and soups may be a good first step towards eating again. They also provide hydration and electrolytes, which are particularly important if you have been vomiting or had a fever. One cup (240 ml) of chicken broth contains 16% of the daily recommended intake (DV) for salt, 8% of the DV for potassium and 8% of the DV for niacin (15).If you’re feeling up to it, including chicken or vegetables in your broth provides additional calories, protein, vitamins and minerals to give your body back some energy.Additionally, if your nausea is caused by congestion or a cold, hot broth can help clear your nose, which may help you feel better (16).Summary Broths and soups provide hydration and electrolytes. They are a good first step towards eating more solid foods again when you’re nauseous or have been vomiting.

    8. Bananas

When you’re sick and nauseous, it can be difficult to eat significant quantities of food. Therefore, it’s important that the foods you manage to eat are nutritious and provide energy to help your body stay strong and recover. This is particularly true if your nausea is due to a chronic condition and you’re struggling to maintain weight.Bananas are a nutritious, energy-dense snack that’s easy to eat even when you’re sick. What’s more, bananas help replace potassium that may be lost if you have been vomiting or have had diarrhea (17).Just one medium-sized banana packs 105 calories, 27 grams of carbs, 12% of your daily potassium needs and 22% of the DV for vitamin B6 (18).Other soft, energy-dense foods include avocados, porridge, stewed fruits, mashed potatoes and peanut butter.Summary Bananas are a good source of energy and vitamins when you’re nauseous and can help replace potassium lost due to vomiting or diarrhea.

    9. Applesauce

Applesauce is a popular food for people with nausea or diarrhea. In fact, it’s part of the BRAT diet, which stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. This diet used to be routinely recommended to people with upset stomachs, particularly children. Though now it’s considered overly restrictive, many people still find its components helpful (19).One study in people undergoing chemotherapy found that a light, bland diet including applesauce, cottage cheese and vanilla ice cream resulted in improved food intake and less nausea and vomiting (20).Applesauce is a good source of carbs and gentle on your stomach.One-half cup (122 grams) of unsweetened applesauce contains about 50 calories and 14 grams of carbs (21).What’s more, it’s high in the dietary fiber pectin, which may be beneficial if you’re experiencing diarrhea in addition to feeling nauseous (22).Summary Applesauce is commonly used by people with nausea and diarrhea. It’s a good source of energy and carbs and usually well tolerated even when you’re feeling sick.

    10–12. Rice, Potatoes and Noodles

When you’re feeling nauseated, starchy, basic meals like rice, potatoes, and noodles are excellent alternatives. They’re quick and simple to cook, contain a lot of calories, and help to calm your stomach. Those that are bland, colorless, and odorless are frequently more readily accepted than foods that are intensely flavored because they cause nausea to a lesser amount than foods that are strongly flavored.

Rice can be eaten simple or lightly seasoned after it has been cooked or steaming. It can also be consumed cold if hot dishes are unappealing to you.If you prefer something different, potatoes may be cooked in many ways such as boiling, steaming, baking, or mashing with butter and milk for added calories. Finally, noodles can be cooked and consumed on their own as a side dish. They can also be added to a light broth or sauce to help you get more fluids into your system.Summary When you’re feeling nauseated, bland, starchy meals are a smart choice since they have a moderate flavor and smell, and they give a decent supply of calories as well as comfort.

    13. Protein-Rich Meals

A few studies have investigated the effects of the macronutrient composition of meals on nausea. One study in pregnant women found that protein-rich meals significantly reduced nausea symptoms, compared to carb- or fat-rich meals (23).Also, as part of motion sickness research, people were given a protein- or carb-rich beverage before being spun in a rotating drum. The protein-rich drinks proved to be most effective at suppressing nausea symptoms (24).Another study in people undergoing chemotherapy found that a combination of ginger and protein supplements reduced nausea (25).It’s unclear why protein has this effect on nausea. The hypothesis is that it helps normalize stomach activity by increasing the secretion of the hormone gastrin (24).Protein-rich meals are particularly important for people experiencing chronic nausea due to illness, as this macronutrient helps keep your body strong and reduces the risk of malnutrition.Summary Protein-rich meals are superior to high-carb or high-fat meals at reducing nausea. Protein may help normalize stomach activity by increasing gastrin secretion.

    14. Herbal Tea

Herbal tea is commonly used as a remedy for nausea. In fact, one study found that 21.7% of gynecologists recommend it to pregnant women experiencing nausea (13).However, there is no scientific evidence to back up these claims. Research on specific compounds such as peppermint and chamomile has primarily been carried out in capsule or aromatherapy form. For example, peppermint aromatherapy has been found to reduce nausea in women who had undergone a C-section, while chamomile capsules and lemon scent had the same effect in pregnant women (26, 27, 28).Despite a lack of scientific evidence, many people with nausea find that herbal teas are well tolerated.Drinking a cup of peppermint tea or adding a slice of lemon to hot water may ease your nausea. Even if the herb itself may show no effect, the fluids aid hydration when you’re sick.Summary Though p
