    Portly Portobello

    Charming Chanterelles

Why Ordering A Mushroom Pizza From Domino’s Will Make You Want Real Mushrooms

When ordering a mushroom pizza from Domino’s, you’ll find yourself craving real mushrooms. You are currently browsing the archives for the fast food franchises category. The fact that I haven’t ordered a mushroom pizza from Domino’s® in at least 30 years has a perfectly valid rationale behind it.And I’m baffled as to why anyone would want to do so.But first, I’d want to take you back in time for a couple of paragraphs so you can understand why this is the case.Soon enough, you’ll realize why.

    The Good Stuff

My first meal at Zack Bruell’s was 40 years ago, when I dined on many plump Jumbo Sea Scallops served in a perfect circle above an extraordinarily rich and delectable Raspberry Beurre Blanc sauce.I recall savoring the meal as if it were yesterday in my mind.It was one of the pleasures of my job as a server in one of Cleveland’s best and most popular luxury restaurants at the time, and it was something I appreciated.Vegas! It was a pleasure to work at Hugo’s Cellar in Las Vegas in the mid-1980s, and there were some advantages to it as well.(That’s me, elegantly assembling a Caesar Salad at the tableside of the restaurant.) There’s nothing quite like a plate of grilled Chilean Sea Bass, Rack of Lamb, and Escargot en Croute to please one’s taste buds.

And what does any of this have to do with the fact that I haven’t had pizza in 30 years? Please continue reading.

    My Palate

My taste buds are incredibly snobbish and judgmental. Not because I was raised by well-paid nannies who were enthusiastic about cooking (I wasn’t).But it wasn’t because I was eating meals cooked by Chef Angelo, who worked on our family’s little boat (kidding). On the contrary, the reason I have ″uppity″ taste buds is that I have worked in numerous excellent high-end restaurants over my career. That means I was able to sample dishes that a lot of others would never have the opportunity to try.Likewise, when I have a need for some delectable mushrooms on a pizza, I never go to Domino’s.

I prefer to make my own.I’m sorry, but I can’t.To my taste, their pizza is far too ″commercial.″ To put it another way, my taste buds would be at a loss for what to do.

    Pizza is Good!

Pizza is one of my favorite foods. The image used here is courtesy of Open Food Facts. It may be a gourmet pizza with upscale ingredients, or, believe it or not, I’m quite content eating a basic, normal mushroom pizza with no other toppings. The mushrooms, on the other hand, cannot be obtained from a can. What’s the harm in trying?Just ask my friends and family.

Why?Because they’ve been on the receiving end of my periodic 10-minute rants, which invariably begin with: ″Who the hell uses canned mushrooms on pizza these days?!?″ and conclude with: ″Get me the phone number of that establishment so I can call and complain to the manager.″ As a result, no canned mushrooms!

Does Domino’s Mushroom Pizza Use Fresh Mushrooms Or Canned Mushrooms?

Let’s have a look and see.If mushrooms are sprinkled on top of your favorite pizza, they have the incredible ability to give their own distinct taste while also functioning as a flavor sponge when combined with other toppings. When combined with Italian sausage, mushrooms, for example, can resemble the meaty texture of the sausage while also taking on a subtle spice flavor.Fresh mushrooms are thus included on a number of our Specialty Pizzas, including the Deluxe Feast®, which is topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, fresh green peppers, fresh onions, and 100 percent genuine mozzarella cheese. In this pizza, the fresh mushrooms act as a third meat source, but they also enhance the tastes of the other fresh vegetables.″ Did you catch what I was saying? Our Specialty Pizzas have fresh mushrooms on many of them, including the Deluxe Feast®, which is topped with pepperoni and Italian sausage as well as fresh green peppers, fresh onions, and 100 percent genuine mozzarella cheese.

Several. That’s what I’m talking about. If I want fresh mushrooms, it appears that I will have to get a ″Specialty″ pizza from the menu.

    • Therefore, fresh mushrooms are not included on the basic Domino’s pizza menu.
    • Right?
    • I’m not sure what I’m talking about.
    • And I’m not quite sure I want to.

Of course, I am not representative of everyone.I’m just a regular man with upscale preferences. It doesn’t really matter.Because…

I’ll say one more thing. Please bear with me.When was the last time you placed an order for a Domino’s Pizza delivery?

How about mushrooms on a pizza?Absolutely.Despite the fact that they are a more contentious topping than pepperoni or sausage, they are not nearly as despised as pineapple or anchovies. While this is true, the type of mushroom you choose can make a significant impact in the overall flavor of your pizza. To kick things off this month’s blog, we’ll take a look at some of the many varieties of mushrooms that are commonly seen on pizza. As we explored in our blog post from October 2020 about the origins of pizza (which you may read here: Where Did Pizza Come From?) One version or another of pizza has existed for a very long time in one form or another.

The inclusion of mushrooms isn’t as thoroughly recorded as it should be.Italian wild mushrooms, as well as mushrooms from other parts of the world where primordial pizza may be traced, are abundant. It is reasonable to argue that humans have been eating mushrooms on pizza for a far longer period of time than they have been eating pepperoni.

    • In fact, pepperoni was not conceived until the early twentieth century (read more on that here.) The combination of pepperoni and mushrooms, on the other hand, rapidly became quite popular.
    • According to several polls, it is the 5th most popular two-topping pizza combination available on the market.
    • But what kinds of mushrooms are suitable for use in pizza?
    • There are a variety of possibilities, some of which are superior than others.

However, the most commonly used mushrooms on pizza are button, shitake, portabella, cremini, and morel mushrooms, which are all edible mushrooms.Button Mushrooms are a kind of mushroom. This is the most common form of mushroom, and it is often the first sort of mushroom that comes to mind when someone mentions the word mushroom. When sautéed with garlic, salt, and olive oil, this little white mushroom transforms from ordinary to amazing in a matter of minutes.

    2. A natural buttery flavor distinguishes this kind from others, making it a touch more complex.
    3. When dried, they also tend to have a considerably stronger smokier flavor.
    4. A taste that is enhanced even further by the high temperatures of a pizza oven.

Some people find the flavor to be overly overpowering.Portabella Mushrooms are a kind of mushroom that grows in the portabella family. When many individuals enjoy grilled portabella mushrooms, they immediately think to themselves that they should eat them more frequently. They have a considerably meatier feel than any other vegetable and are therefore unique.Portabella mushrooms are a crowd-pleasing dish that everyone enjoys.Cremini Mushrooms are a kind of mushroom that grows in the cremini family.

The happy medium between the button and the portabella.Interesting tidbit.Portabella mushrooms are just button mushrooms that have been allowed to grow for a longer period of time. The midpoint is represented with cremini mushrooms.Morel Mushrooms are a kind of mushroom.

    Crust Options

A variety of crust variations are available on the Pizza Hut menu to suit a large group of people. However, while most pizza shops have a range of identical crust options (thick, thin, etc.), no two pizza restaurants have the same crust recipe, which is where a pizza may really distinguish apart. As an alternative to the thin, crispy crust and the hand-tossed type, the Pizza Hut menu does offer a few of interesting crust alternatives, including: The Pan Pizza has a thick crust that is crispy on the exterior and soft on the inside. It is a traditional Italian dish.In case you didn’t obtain enough cheese on the top of the pizza, you may make a Stuffed Dough Pizza by stuffing a pizza crust with cheese.Stuffed crust is not an option available at all pizza establishments, so if you want a lot of additional cheese on and in your pizza, you should give this recipe a shot.

In recent months, we’ve begun to see multigrain pizza options available at a number of pizza shops, which is excellent news for those of you attempting to live on the healthier side of the spectrum. Will this be a viable choice in the future? We have a sneaking suspicion that it will not, but let’s hope we are wrong.

Choose a thin crust rather than a thicker crust when making a pie.In contrast to hand-tossed pizza, choosing a cheese pizza with a thin crust can save you up to 60 calories, 10 grams of carbs, and a gram of fat per slice of cheese pizza, depending on your preference. That can pile very quickly!

    • If you dab the oil off your pizza with a paper towel, you can save a few calories as well.)

There are all of the regular toppings on the Pizza Hut menu, including sausage, beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and your typical vegetables, such as olives, red and green peppers, jalapenos, mushrooms, and onions, on the menu.In comparison to other pizza restaurants such as Dominos Pizza Restaurant and Papa John’s Pizza, Pizza Hut’s toppings selection is quite limited. Some of the less common toppings, such as spinach, feta, salami, and sliced provolone, are not available in Pizza Hut locations. That is not to say that it is necessarily a negative development. The average population is more likely to remain with the more traditional toppings, and it is in this area that Pizza Hut generates the most of its money. However, if you’re searching for toppings that are a little out of the usual, you might want to consider visiting a restaurant like California Pizza Kitchen.

Never Put Raw Mushrooms On Pizza

This post may include one or more Amazon affiliate links that were chosen by the author independently.See the entire disclaimer.Raw mushrooms on a pizza is pretty much proof that you don’t know what you’re talking about when it comes to pizza with mushrooms. Why do individuals continue to behave in this manner? The pizza has been damaged, and the mushrooms have a raw taste to them because they are largely uncooked.Despite this, several pizza delivery services continue to include fresh sliced mushrooms on their pizzas as well.

I’ve got some good news for you: even canned mushrooms on a pizza are preferable to freshly cut and uncooked mushrooms. The Pizza Bible (sometimes known as the ″Pizza Bible″): Become a pizza expert and learn the secrets of producing fantastic pizza from the maestro himself. It’s not just about the pizza.

    • Have you ever come across a mushroom recipe that does not call for the mushrooms to be pre-cooked before using them?
    • Typically, this is accomplished by sautéing the mushrooms over high heat with only a small amount of oil and salt.
    • There’s a good reason why mushrooms should be thoroughly cooked before being used in cooking dishes.
    • And it’s possible that there’s a reason why so many individuals aren’t aware of the situation.

I believe I have discovered the explanation behind this.Mushrooms are often referred to as vegetables by their consumers. There’s nothing worse than a vegetable that’s been overcooked.Exactly the reason why so many people didn’t eat their veggies as children.because they were cooked till they turned to bitter sludge!

    1. A wise person once remarked that you shouldn’t boil vegetables; instead, you should threaten them!
    2. And they were absolutely correct.
    3. Mushrooms, on the other hand, are not vegetables; they are fungus.
    4. Furthermore, they are brimming with water.

Your first thought could be that veggies contain a lot of water. This is correct.Sure.It is possible that a freshly harvested vegetable contains up to 70% water. Those pesky mushrooms, on the other hand, are 90 percent water! They contain more water than any other substance.

If you keep mushrooms in a plastic bag, moisture droplets will gather on the inside of the bag as a result of the water vapor emitted by the mushrooms while they are being stored. In any case, this is why you should never keep mushrooms in a plastic bag, but should instead store them in a paper or cloth bag, as previously stated. When you put raw mushrooms on a pizza, they quickly begin to release a significant amount of water due to the dry heat. The mushrooms, on the other hand, haven’t had nearly enough time to cook through before the pizza is finished, so you wind up with a watery pizza with mushrooms that are only barely cooked through. It is necessary to boil off practically all of the water in order for the mushrooms to have the best flavor and texture possible.

    1. It is impossible for fresh mushrooms to shed all of their moisture when placed in a mixture that contains a lot of liquid; therefore, they will become limp and tasteless when cooked in the dish.
    2. At least so we’ve been taught.
    3. I’ll get to that later, but even while you can poach or ″blanch″ mushrooms, this is not the texture you want for pizza, where you want a little chew and a concentrated taste, this is not the texture you want.
    4. Now, I am aware that some people enjoy eating raw mushrooms, and I am not one of them.
    5. All of the time, they may be found on salad bars.
    1. Some mushrooms do, in fact, taste better when they are raw than other mushrooms.
    2. They do not, however, frequently make their way into salads.
    3. People like to eat white button mushrooms instead of more exotic varieties, and this is one mushroom that benefits from a good smacking with high direct heat, rather than more exotic varieties.
    4. You shouldn’t be concerned about overcooking mushrooms, as you should be with vegetables, for the most part.
    5. Obviously, some of the more delicate types must be treated differently, but for the most part, the regularly used mushrooms such as White, Baby Bella, Portobella, Shitake, and so on, you can just sauté them until they are well browned and all of the moisture has been eliminated.
    6. To prepare the mushrooms for pizza, you’ll want to sauté them in a big pan over medium-high to high heat until they’re tender.
    1. Yes, it’s that hot.
    2. Don’t be concerned, they will not burn.
    3. Keep in mind that they are brimming with water.
    4. Once the skillet is nice and hot, add the oil and allow it to heat up until it is smoking.
    5. Then, in the bottom of the skillet, arrange a layer of the mushrooms that have been prepped.
    • Sprinkle some salt on them to make them taste better.
    • The salt will aid in the removal of moisture from the vegetables and, as salt always does, will improve their flavour.
    • DO NOT stir them immediately after placing them in the pot.
    • Allow them to depart.
    • And then leave.
    • A huge quantity of water will begin to evaporate, and the mushrooms may appear to be stewing rather than sauteing at first, which is normal.

Do not move them around until almost all of the water has evaporated and no more is visible on the surface. After that, move them about and let them to continue to cook.Continue to cook them until they are well browned, or until they are cooked to your satisfaction. They are now ready to start putting the toppings on the pizza.Naturally, you could finish the dish with herbs or garlic if you so desired.Alternatively, a little quantity of red wine can be used to deglaze the pan.

    • However, none of this is required.
    • With the exception of a pinch of salt, a perfectly cooked mushroom need no other assistance.
    • If you need to prepare a big quantity of mushrooms, it may be beneficial to cook them in smaller batches.

The notion that you should never ″crowd″ the pan, on the other hand, is a myth.Although when you cook large quantities of mushrooms at the same time, they will initially release so much water that it will appear that they are stewing rather than browning, once the water has been cooked away, the mushrooms will cook perfectly. However, in my experience, for the greatest results, I recommend cooking little more than what will completely cover the bottom of your pan. It’s true that you can get away with a little bit more than this as well. The lowest layer of mushrooms will shed water, but the higher layers will just sit there and boil if you put a large pile of mushrooms in the pan at the same time.Cooking them in batches will ensure that they are cooked evenly and that they are less soggy than if you stirred them constantly.

This may seem like nitpicking and a matter of personal preference, but I have come across some people who like the texture of mushrooms cooked in water than those cooked in broth. If you like a softer texture with less browning (as an aside), crowd the pan and allow the mushrooms to cook in their own juices, which is something I’ve learned the hard way.Because of the water shedding and evaporation, the mushrooms will ultimately shrink in size, but they will not brown as rapidly or deeply as a result, allowing you to cook them and create a little texture in them without developing a concentrated flavor or becoming chewy in texture. For best results, experiment with several cooking methods to see which produces the texture and flavor of mushrooms that you want.

    1. Several people have expressed concern with mushrooms soaking up butter or oil, resulting in browned yet oily mushrooms when sauteed.
    2. This is most likely due to the fact that you used double, if not three times, the amount of oil or butter that was necessary.
    3. With just one tablespoon of oil, you can cook a pound of mushrooms in no time at all.
    4. The second issue is the insistence on using butter rather than oil.

It is possible to cook entire mushrooms whole in butter, but it is preferable to sauté them in an oil that can sustain high heat without burning. In general, grilling, broiling, or sauteing mushrooms are the best methods for cooking all mushrooms.Dry heat, on the other hand, is essential.Yes, cooking something with a small amount of oil still qualifies as dry heat in this case.To make a stock or sauce out of mushrooms, it is also feasible to poach or blanch them in oil or stock.

However, the mushrooms would still be completed using a dry-heat method, such as a sauté or even on the grill. Before continuing, you might be interested in knowing more about the ″common″ mushrooms that I discussed earlier in this article.By common, I mean the cultivated sort that we are used to seeing at our local grocery shop or convenience store. Some of you may be startled by what I have to say about these well-known mushroom species!

General Rule for Raw or Cooked Ingredients on a Pizza

It is relatively simple to decide which components should be precooked before being added to a pizza and which ones may be added raw to a pizza.Keep in mind that pizzas are baked at a high temperature in a short amount of time. Therefore, any uncooked ingredients you use on the pizza will not be ″completely cooked″ by the time it is taken out of the oven after it has been baked.Whenever possible, anything that will require complete cooking after the pizza is finished, for whatever reason, should be prepared ahead of time.As a result, if you are unable to consume it raw, do not use it on a pizza without first cooking it.As a result, you would never serve raw meat on a pizza.

Beef, chicken, and other meats must be pre-cooked before being added.Fresh sausage, like all other types of sausage, must be pre-cooked.Fresh sausage, such as Italian sausage, is available.

    • This implies that it is composed with raw meat and spices that have been wrapped and then chilled before being served to customers.
    • This must be completely prepared ahead of time.
