What is vegan mozzarella made of?

  • This amazing vegan mozzarella sauce recipe is made with only nine easy components, which are as follows: It is also possible to use soft tofu instead of silken tofu.
  • The coconut oil should be refining or melted. Make sure you’re using a refined coconut oil and not an unrefined coconut oil or a virgin coconut oil when you’re making this recipe. You don’t want your vegan mozzarella to have a coconut flavor to it.
  • Tapioca starch – This is an important ingredient since it gives the baked goods their gooey feel. We do not propose replacing other starches, such as cornstarch or arrowroot, because they behave in a different manner.
  • To make it a little sharper tasting, if you don’t have any lemon juice on hand you may use miso paste (yellow mustard, stone ground mustard), white vinegar (rice vinegar), or apple cider vinegar (apple cider vinegar) for the lemon juice.

  1. Consider purchasing pre-made pizza dough or a pre-baked pizza crust to save time on the cooking process. Pre-made pizza dough, which can be bought in the refrigerated department of most well-stocked grocery shops, is my preferred method of making pizza. If you bake pizza, it tastes just like handmade pizza and saves you time by eliminating a time-consuming step that would otherwise be required.
  2. To prevent the crust from adhering to the bottom of your pizza stone or baking pan, generously flour the surface of the stone or baking pan. Cooking times for these recipes will vary. Bake pizzas until the crust is golden brown and the bottom of the pan sounds hollow when the pizza is tapped.
  3. Are you looking for gluten-free options? For the best results, I recommend using a 1:1 baking flour mix or purchasing a prepared gluten-free pizza crust from your local supermarket. This almond flour crust (from Simple Mills) is a favorite of mine.

Serving and Storing

Pizza should be served immediately after it has been taken out of the oven.Allow it to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before slicing and serving the cake.Storing leftover pizza – You may keep leftover pizza in the refrigerator for up to three days.Allow the product to cool to room temperature before storing it.Cellophane wrap, a big sealable bag, or an airtight container are all good options for storing it.

Vegan Pizza Dough

A very Simple Vegan Pizza Dough recipe created with pantry staples and ready in about an hour so you can have a tasty thin pizza crust any day of the week. Furthermore, this vegan pizza dough freezes quite well, allowing you to meal prep a large quantity of pizza for later!

Is pizza dough vegan?

Yes, most classic pizza doughs are vegan, with the exception of a few recipes that include yogurt to lighten the crust from time to time. However, the vast majority of pizza doughs are prepared using vegan components. Because yeast is vegan, white flour is vegan, and water is vegan, you’re in excellent shape.

How to make vegan pizza dough?

In order to prepare this simple vegan Pizza Dough recipe, you need only need a few basic pantry ingredients:

Ingredients

  • If you want to use spelt flour, please see my spelt flour pizza dough recipe for more information
  • all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • Olive oil
  • lukewarm water
  • a pinch of salt
  • You don’t have to be concerned about yeast being vegan
  • active dry yeast
  • It doesn’t matter what kind of sugar you use
  • coconut sugar or maple syrup both work.

Step 1: Activate the Yeast

Pour warm water into a small mixing bowl and stir in the yeast. (Think bath temperature around 37 degrees Celsius (98 degrees Fahrenheit). Whisk the ingredients together, cover the bowl, and set aside for 5 minutes, or until the yeast begins to foam.

Step 2: Combine dry ingredients to liquid ingredients

In a large mixing basin or the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together the flour, salt, and garlic until well combined.Combine the liquid components (olive oil and active yeast) and stir until well combined.Stir the dough together with a wooden spoon until it comes together.When adjusting the dough, add additional flour if the dough is too moist or more water if the dough is too dry.Make sure to add 1 tablespoon of flour at a time, along with 1 teaspoon of additional water, in order to prevent altering the dough texture too quickly.

Step 3: Knead for 5 minutes

Using your hands or the dough hook attachment of your stand mixer on low speed 2-3, knead the vegan pizza dough until it is smooth and elastic.For best results, knead the dough for at least 5 minutes until it is soft and elastic, as seen in the photograph below.Use all-purpose flour to flour your hands and a little coating of flour on your work area to prevent the dough from sticking together while you are working.

Step 4: Rise until doubled in size

When the dough is finished, it should be soft and elastic, and it should bounce back when you press your finger into it — it should not adhere to your finger.Transfer the vegan pizza dough to a lightly oiled mixing basin and wrap the bowl tightly with plastic wrap to prevent it from rising.Then, place a cloth on top of the bowl to avoid the dough from becoming too cold.Area the basin in a warm set – I prefer to preheat the oven to 45°C (110°F) and then place the bowl in a warm oven to help the dough rise more quickly, but this is optional.

Step 5: Knead 2 minutes

When the dough has doubled in size, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead it for 2 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.

Step 6: roll

The dough should be divided into four balls of equal size.One pizza base is served by one ball.Roll the pizza dough into a 10-inch diameter circle for a thin crust or an 8-inch diameter circle for a thicker crust with a rolling pin.Transfer the rolled dough to a piece of parchment paper and top with the toppings of your choice — see the note below for ideas.On a pizza stone or baking sheet, bake the pizza for 20 minutes at 220°C (430°F) on the middle rack of the oven.

Vegan pizza toppings

I’ve compiled a list of wonderful vegan pizza toppings that you can use to build a tasty pizza at any moment.

Sauce

  • To begin, apply a sauce on the unbaked rolled pizza dough and set aside. This includes vegan pizza sauce, vegan pesto (either homemade or purchased), hummus, marinara sauce, BBQ sauce, vegan coconut yogurt or vegan sour cream for a vegan white pizza foundation, and a vegan white pizza base with vegan cheese.

Vegetables

  • Place flat toppings such as: baby spinach leaves
  • zucchini slices
  • mushroom slices
  • corn
  • sun-dried tomatoes
  • fresh basil
  • jackfruit on top of the salad.

Plant-based proteins

  • Once you’ve got your meat substitutes in place, you can add vegan proteins like Beyond Meat Chunks, canned black beans, canned chickpeas, Vegan Nuggets Bites (which can be eaten frozen or unthawed), Taco Lentil Meat (which tastes amazing on pizza), and Sofritas (yes, tofu scramble tastes amazing on pizza).

Vegan cheeses

  • It’s completely optional, but there are so many really wonderful plant-based cheeses available on the market that you should definitely include some! What we adore: Vegan Mozzarella, Vegan Feta, Dollop of Homemade Vegan Ricotta

Storage

Following my suggestions below, you may keep the pizza dough in the refrigerator or the freezer.

Uncooked pizza dough

The dough should be divided into four balls after it has been kneaded for the second time.Lightly oil the exterior of each ball and wrap each one in plastic wrap to keep them from being lost.After that, store in an airtight container.Refrigerate for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months before serving.Thaw the pizza dough in the refrigerator the day before you want to use it.

Then roll the dough out on a floured surface, adding flour as needed to bring it back to its original texture (freezing makes the dough a little sticky and wet).

Pre-bake pizza crust

You can also use the 4 pizza balls to make pizza bases by rolling them together.Then, place the rolled pizza bases on a piece of parchment paper to keep them from sticking together.With a fork, poke holes all over the crust to allow the steam to escape.Finally, pre-bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).Allow the pre-baked pizza foundation to cool before wrapping it in plastic wrap and freezing it.

It is not necessary to defrost the pre-baked pizza base before using it.Using the frozen foundation as a basis, arrange the toppings and bake according to the usual baking instructions below.

  • Work the dough with the dough hook in your stand mixer for 3-5 minutes, or if you don’t have a stand mixer, move to a floured surface and knead by hand for 5 minutes, until it is smooth, elastic, and not sticky

  • If the dough becomes too sticky, add a small amount of flour, one tablespoon at a time. If the mixture becomes too dry, add a teaspoon of water at a time. When you poke the dough with your finger and it slowly bounces back, you know the dough is ready to rise. If this is the case, continue kneading. To get the consistency seen in the photos above, alter the flour and water proportions as needed.
  • Place the dough in a basin that has been gently greased. Cover the dish with a piece of plastic wrap and a clean kitchen towel on top of the plastic wrap. In a warm environment or an oven warmed to 45 degrees Celsius (110 degrees Fahrenheit) for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the dough puffs up and has doubled in size
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and knead it for another 2 minutes on a floured surface, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky.
