- This Brooklyn institution began as a horse and cart enterprise in 1939 and has evolved into an iconic brick-and-mortar establishment (with plans for a DUMBO addition).

13. Rubirosa, Nolita
- Rubirosa, which is more Italian-American than it is Italian, was formed by the son of Giuseppe Pappalardo, who started Joe & Pat’s on Staten Island in the 1960s.

- It’s a little snug on the inside, but that only makes it that much more comfortable, right?

- Head to Uptown for a nice setting and great brick oven pizza that is directly across the street from City College of San Francisco.
- Lots of candlelight and a stunning marble bar contribute to the sophisticated atmosphere, which is ideal for a romantic night.

15. Baker’s Pizza, East Village
- This East Village pizza offers a wide variety of toppings.
- Everything from a bacon/brussels sprouts/white truffle oil combination to a pepperoni square is excellent if you want something other than simply cheese on your pizza.
- In addition, they have a $5 beer and slice special!

16. Roberta’s, Bushwick
- Roberta’s wood oven pizzas contributed to the development of Bushwick, Brooklyn, and are widely regarded as one of the best pizzas in New York City.
- Their pies are made to order and are light and pillowy, and all of their meats and salumi are cured on site.
- Order the morning pizza with a drippy egg for weekend brunch if you have the opportunity.

17. Scarr’s Pizza, Lower East Side
- Scarr’s is a restaurant on the Lower East Side that was founded by Scarr Pimentel in 2016.
- With time, it gained widespread recognition and established itself as a mainstay of the New York pizza scene, earning a spot on several best-of lists (including ours!).
- They utilize only 100 percent all-natural, stone milled flour (which is milled on-site), and you can tell the difference in the flavor.

18. Denino’s, Staten Island or Greenwich Village
- Denino’s first opened its doors on Staten Island in 1937, primarily as a bar for dock workers in the Port Richmond neighborhood.

- Surprise, surprise, the newest Greenwich Village store is exactly as delicious as the old!…

19. Koronet Pizza, Upper West Side
When it comes to pizza, Koronet’s is known for their jumbo-sized portions that are especially satisfying after a night on the town. Open till 2am weeknights and 4am weekdays, it serves giant slices of pizza for a low price of roughly $5 per large piece. Whatever is referred to as ‘jumbo’ is recommended. 20. Eleven B Pizza, Lower East Side
- Come to Eleven B for some authentic New York pizza made the old-fashioned way.
- As has been the case since his family first brought their pizza recipe to the Lower East Side over 50 years ago, the proprietor, Vincent Sgarlato, is virtually always on hand to greet customers.
- There’s a speedy side that just serves pizza, and a sit-down restaurant side that serves pastas and other dishes if you have a little extra time on your hands.

Are you ready to tuck into your favorite of all foods?Are you ready to plunge in?What exactly are we discussing?Of course, we’re talking about pizza!Some children enjoy meat, while others do not.Some children enjoy veggies, while others avoid them at all costs.

Famous Original Ray’s Pizza Review – Times Square

- Or, at the very least, it appears to those who do not reside in New York City.
- For individuals who do live or work in the city, the term Ray’s Pizza might refer to a variety of establishments, depending on which Ray’s Pizza is being discussed.
Just because a pizzeria goes by the name of Ray’ Pizzas does not imply that it is the same as the first Ray’s Pizza, which debuted on Prince Street in 1959.In reality, the vast majority of Rays pizzerias in New York City are merely pizzerias attempting to sell pizza under the guise of an allegedly historical brand.My hometown is the Bronx, and there will never be a greater pizza restaurant than Sal’s Pizza on 206th Street, or even Napoli’s on 204th Street, in my opinion.
Every borough claims to have the finest pizza in the world.Well, maybe not every borough, but the Bronx, Brooklyn, and some portions of Queens are definitely on the list.When it comes to disputing about whose pizza is the finest, though, it is typically neighborhood loyalty that prevails.The majority of New Yorkers are loyal to the pizza they grew up with and are not interested in hearing about other people’s pizza.When we were living in the Bronx, we never brought up the subject of Rays pizza in Manhattan.Back then, I’d never heard of it before.
- The majority of the 21st century pizzerias in Manhattan are massive disappointments.
- There are few outliers, such as Prince Street Pizza, which is the site of the true original Rays Pizzeria, which is located at 27 Prince Street in downtown Toronto.
- In fact, the first Ray’s Pizza, which was founded by a guy called Ralph Cuomo, still exists on the same spot.
- It was after then that the history of Ray’s became a tangle, as former employees started their own pizzerias under variants of the name Ray’s, such as ″Famous Ray’s,″ ″Original Ray’s,″ ″World Famous Ray’s,″ and of course the ″Famous Original Ray’s″ combination platter.
- Some were bought and sold, lawsuits were thrown around like pizza dough, and everyone claimed that their Rays was the original and only original.
- Prince Street Pizza, which dates back to the original Rays on 27th Street, is a throwback.
- It is unquestionably one of the greatest, if not the best, pizzerias in all of New York City.
If you don’t mind standing in long lines to get your hands on some of the best Sicilian pizza in town, you’ll love this place.(My son does not eat there, but I do) I have eaten their pizza several times.It’s a really fantastic piece.However, this isn’t your grandfather’s pizza.The old-school pizza makers would never load up a slice of pizza with as much pepperoni as they do at Prince Street Pizza.Nonetheless, the children like it.
Nonetheless, they are not exactly the nicest pizza in town, and they have been accused of some racist behavior, which I am not going to get into at this time.When it comes to other excellent pizza establishments in Manhattan, there are several, particularly on the Upper East Side, but the vast majority of pizzerias in Manhattan, particularly those in tourist areas, serve pizza that tastes like Sbarro’s mall pizza.While the original Ray’s Pizzeria, located at 27 Prince Street, opened its doors in 1959.The Ray’s Pizzeria in Times Square, where I just dined, is said to have first opened its doors in 1964.According to their website, they first opened their doors in 1964 and today own four Ray’s Pizzerias in Manhattan, all of which are known as FAMOUS ORIGINAL RAY’S PIZZA.But of course, if you own four Famous Original Ray’s Pizzerias and claim that all four are the originals, it doesn’t take a lot of mathematical acumen to figure out that only one can be the original.
This is one of the reasons why I was so apprehensive about writing this post in the first place.In the end, it appears that this franchise is owned by the Mangano family, who first acquired Ray’s Pizza from Ralph Cuomo in 1964 and expanded the business by opening a second location in 1965.It’s a little puzzling that they claim to be the first given it was Ralph Cuomo who opened the first Ray’s in the first place.
- Now that the background information has been provided, it is time to discuss the pizza at Famous Original Ray’s Pizza Times Square.
- As previously said, I grew up in the Bronx eating New York-style pizza.
- I’m a bit of a dinosaur.
- A slice of ordinary piazza will serve as the basis for any comparisons I make between the two dishes.
There will be none of this glitzy, glam bullshit.There’s nothing but dough, sauce, cheese, oil, and seasonings.That is a slice of pizza!
- On a weekday in November 2020, I strolled into the Famous Original Ray’s Pizza Times Square location at approximately noon.
- On a weekday, a pizzeria in Times Square is normally filled with people.
- The epidemic, on the other hand, has altered everything.
- There was no one in the store, and all of the tables outside were empty.
- I was sorry for what had happened to them.
- Despite this, the counter was piled high with pies and dishes that were ready to be served as soon as possible.
The people working behind the desk were quite pleasant.You place your order at one counter and pay at another, much like so many other takeout food restaurants in Manhattan.That is not an old-fashioned system, but I believe it is a better one since you have different individuals in charge of the money and the meals.For three dollars and fifty cents, you could have a slice of basic cheese pizza.
- That was the most expensive slice of pizza I’d ever ordered anyplace other than a stadium, and it was also the most delicious.
- Nonetheless, I recognize that this is Times Square and that the expense of doing business there must be prohibitively expensive.
- However, the fact that it was a very little slice of pizza was something I did not appreciate.
- If you’re going to charge three dollars and fifty cents for a slice of pizza, you have to be reasonable with the portion size you serve.
- It’s possible that a visitor will not notice, but a true New Yorker will be wondering, ″Are you kidding me?″ I was about to say anything, but the location was deserted and I felt awful for the people that were there.
- They were also quite pleasant.

- At that time of day, it was rather remarkable that they had so many pies prepared and ready to be devoured.
- I was curious as to how long the pies would be left out on the counter because there was no one else out on the streets on that particular day.
- The calzones appear to be rather excellent, and the menu was prominently displayed over the ovens.
It was a top-notch, well-run enterprise that was being managed.Everything appeared to be in excellent condition.The counters, as well as the flooring, were all quite immaculate when we arrived.That reveals a great deal about how a restaurant manages their operations.In addition, it provides reassurance to those planning to eat there.
