• Sam Crenshaw (Bob Dermer’s puppet) is the store’s security guard and narrator. He was born in 1919, making him the oldest of the four main characters in the story. His years have worn him down to the point that he is an usually laid-back guy. He is prone to initially failing to see or recognize some things that are going on around him, yet when he does, he is known to burst out laughing. He doesn’t appear to be very bright and may be awkward at times, but he has good intentions and is competent in his profession. He is a former sailor and a veteran of the Boer War, and his hallmark song is ″Singin’ Yo Hee Ho,″ which he wrote himself. He’s a widower with a cat named Penelope as a pet, which Muffy is wary of since she’s terrified of her. He occasionally uses the TXL Series 4 computer to keep an eye on things around the business.
• Muffy Mouse (Nina Keogh as the puppet): A mouse that speaks in rhyme and who spends the most of his time in the store. It appears like she is lassoing a feather boa around her neck, while she plays the piano and rides
