The Best Pizza Chains Across The USA, Ranked

Pizza is one of the most widely consumed cuisines in the United States, and we all have our favorite places to get our fix when it comes to our favorite pizza joint.Slices of pie have the ability to bridge cultural and nutritional boundaries, whether it’s because they evoke childhood memories or because they include a mouthwatering combination of crunchy cheese, buttery crust, and rich sauce. There are curry-topped pizzas, vegan pizzas, cauliflower crust pizzas, and everything in between to be found at restaurants all around the nation. When it comes to the suppliers, though, the old standbys of smothered dough are still standing strong. The pie is brought to the public by hundreds of pizza chains, large and small, today, and some have established themselves as THE eateries that will be remembered as some of the greatest in the United States of America.

We take a look at the 10 top chain pizza restaurants that have shaped and will continue to shape the pizza landscape in the United States. When selecting the names for this list, we looked for chains with more than 20 locations that had a significant national influence, were popular, were large, were of high quality, and made any distinctive innovations that transformed the way we consume pizza. With such a large number of possibilities to pick from, several well-known brands were narrowly excluded from consideration, whether they were industry giants or high-quality upstarts. However, each of the chains on this list has been and will continue to be a foundation of the pizza industry in the United States for many years to come.

Papa Murphy’s has long served as a transitional stop between Domino’s and Tombstone restaurants. The take-and-bake master prepares everything for you so that you may cook up the pizza at home without having to worry about any extended cryo-sleeps it may have endured in a grocery store freezer before you get it.While it appears that consumers have moved on from this once-disruptive business due to the advent of delivery, it is still one of the top 5 earning pizza vendors in the United States and one of the top 10 in terms of popularity.

    • They may not be as well-known as some of the more well-known players, but they are still a significant influence in the pizza industry in the United States today.
    • Cici’s, the original pizza buffet, is responsible for one of the most uniquely American concepts ever created.
    • While others, such as Round Table, have since added the buffet to their menus, Cici’s remains the pioneer and continues to raise the bar with new pizzas, including one with mac & cheese on top, and other innovations.
    • Outside of Chuck E.
    • Cheese, I can’t think of another major pizza brand that goes as far out of the box as they do in terms of pie toppings.
    • Sbarro is widely recognized as the de facto standard for food court pizza.
    • No matter if you’re in the airport or in the shopping mall, seeing one of these is a guarantee of hot, familiar pizza that everyone can agree on.
    • In spite of the fact that the shopping mall industry is experiencing a downturn, Sbarro still generates $609 million in revenue every year, placing it among the top ten most profitable pizza companies on the market.
    • Round Table has done for the pizza industry what Umami Burger did for the burger industry a few years ago.
    • In addition to raising the bar on quality and flavor, the pizza parlor also drove everyone else to step up their game and go above and above the standards set by the industry.
    • It’s the place where you’re prepared to spend a bit more money in order to obtain a better pizza, and the benefits are evident in the dough and the inventiveness of the pies on offer.

They are similar to In-N-Out Burger in that they are mostly found on the West Coast, but their name is well-known all over the country.Even while all of the preceding pizza companies have had a significant impact on the industry, none have been as widespread and ubiquitous as the wholesale leader.Despite the fact that Costco does not have a pizza restaurant, throngs of consumers go to the food court in order to get their hands on the company’s iconic pizzas.Costco’s pie stands out because it has just the perfect amount of oil, a delectable cheese combination, and an exceedingly reasonable price. It’s also why their pie is the one you’ll most likely discover at a club meeting or a fast family get-together.

    1. Costco isn’t a ground-breaking company, and they’re certainly not a market leader, yet you still manage to think of them when you’re looking for a last-minute pizza choice.
    2. Look out, pizza world, because this Chipotle-like concept has the potential to rocket to the top of this list in five years, no pun intended.
    3. Blaze Pizza, the nation’s fastest-growing pie-slinging company, has honed its unique approach to gourmet toppings, personalization, and the build-your-own personal pizza experience.
    4. Even the concept’s creators are unable to keep up with Blaze’s rapid expansion as they continue to expand across the country.
    5. THIS is the direction in which the future of pizza is moving, and the field of competitors is starting to take notice.

This category is dominated by innovators who come up with a whole new pizza taste that quickly becomes so popular that it is available in every restaurant across the country.A lot has been written about the nationwide influence that CPK’s BBQ Chicken Pizza had, and their obsession with hot pizza ovens and innovative topping combinations made establishments such as Blaze viable. We wouldn’t have had the same level of enthusiasm surrounding the blazing pizza ovens if it weren’t for CPK, and we wouldn’t have been encouraged to go outside the box when it comes to what can be put on pizza.

See also:  How Do You Clean A Pampered Chef Pizza Stone?

CPK is not finished, however, since their cauliflower crusts have propelled them to the top of the gluten-free pizza market in the United States.Despite the fact that they’ve been in business for decades, they’re constantly looking for ways to remain ahead of the competition, which is difficult in an industry as large as pizza. When it comes to size, spread, and popularity, all of the preceding positions on the list pale in contrast to the top three slots. That’s especially true when you consider that Little Caesars generates only $3.5 billion in sales, making them the smallest player on this list’s gold podium.

    • They are, however, the company who created the $5 pizza and are known for doing the simplest versions as efficiently and rapidly as possible.
    • These companies’ recent initiatives toward automation demonstrate that they have the ability to catch up to the two industry titans at the top of this list.
    • Little Caesars’ menu will never feature anything truly outrageous, but that’s because the company doesn’t require it in order to be profitable or competitive in the marketplace.
    • The most surprising aspect of Pizza Hut being named runner-up is that it is not ranked first on this list.
    • As far as marketing goes, you’d think The Hut had it all: clever and trendy advertising campaigns, stylish products and activations, an endless slew of promotions that seem to never end, and a fairly good pie.
    • Aside from that, they’ve recently taken over the role of NFL’s official mascot.

Pizza Hut may be a behemoth in terms of sheer scale, but their lack of popularity is what ultimately dooms them.Consumers have rated Little Caesars as more popular than the mega-chain, despite the fact that The Hut is five times larger. The fact that you have more locations and earn more money than practically everyone else does not automatically elevate you to the top of the rankings. What distinguishes you as America’s mega-pizza gold standard, on the other hand, is your position as the largest and most popular pizza chain in the country.

    1. As of 2018, Domino’s has surpassed Pizza Hut in both revenue and popularity, making it the most profitable and popular pizza chain in the world.
    2. With the deals, growth rate, and quality that they have, they can compete with or outperform their staunchest competitor in every area.
    3. And now they have the earnings to back it all up.
    4. Furthermore, Domino’s has established itself as the industry leader in delivery by expanding its operations outside the confines of the building.

Their app allows you to obtain your pie at a plethora of various parks and public spaces, something that the majority of the main competitors in the sector have difficulty doing. As an added bonus, they’re doing good for the local communities by paving the roads, which is one of the most creative advertising strategies a delivery business could come up with. All of this has allowed Domino’s the potential to not only reclaim its position as the undisputed king of American pizza, but also to maintain that position for many years to come.

    • In the pizza-loving city of Boston, Massachusetts, you may tempt your taste senses.
    • Santarpio’s Pizza is a work of fiction written by Bucky Jones.
    • Despite the lack of a unified tradition or style in the creation of pizza in Boston, the city has a few excellent artists that make it.

Both Regina’s and Santarpio’s are considered to be the best pizza places in town, although there is a lot of controversy about which is the best in terms of reputation.Regina’s has been a fixture in the city since its founding in 1926 and is a hugely popular destination in the North End.This results in huge lines and a short turn-around time, all of which are justified by the delicious, crispy and cheesy pizza that is served.A bit less touristic than the others, Santarpio’s is nestled away in the east end of town and is known for its pizza, which has quietly garnered a worldwide reputation.

    • Really, you should experiment with both and make your own decision.
    • The presence of a significant Italian background has resulted in the establishment of numerous excellent pizzerias in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    • Marra’s!
    • is a song written by Alexandratx.
    • Philadelphia is home to the second-largest Italian-American population in the United States, and the city is well-known for its large Italian market in the city’s southernmost section.
    • Because of this, it should come as no surprise that it is home to an array of excellent pizzerias.
    • Restaurants serving square pizza with the cheese hidden beneath a tangy sauce are among the best; Tacconelli’s, with its thin crust, excellent tomato sauce, and light sprinkling of cheese, is among the best; and Osteria, which serves puffy-crusted pizza in a more formal restaurant setting, is among the best.
    • In Providence, Rhode Island, you may sample the city’s emerging and unique pizza culture.
    • Spablab’s bob and timmy’s pizza is a work of art.
    • Providence, the state capital of Rhode Island, has risen from its post-industrial abyss over the past two decades to become a popular tourist destination for cuisine enthusiasts.
    • A significant part of this shift has been the development of a fantastic pizza culture, which incorporates a range of variations on classic ways.
    • Its grilled pizzas, which are served as an appetizer, have made the Italian restaurant Al Forno famous across the world.
    • Providence Coal-Fired Pizza bakes its pizzas in a coal oven that reaches far higher temperatures than the typical wood-fired technique, imparting a smokey taste to the finished product; it also offers a variety of more luxurious toppings, such as meatballs.
    • Bob & Timmy’s Grilled Pizza, a small, eccentric candidate for the title of greatest pizzeria in Providence, grills its pizza over a wood fire and serves it with a variety of odd toppings, is another contender.
    • 4.

In Chicago, Illinois, you may sample the best deep-pan and thin-crust pizza available.Pequod’s, a painting by osphia. The city of Chicago is the place where American-style pizza truly departs from its Italian origins. The city is renowned for its thick-crust, deep-pan pizza, which is smothered with toppings and cheese, and which, in contrast to the thin, delicately-flavored pizza of Naples, appears to be a sign of American luxury in comparison. However, on a chilly, windblown Chicago night, this hearty creation might be a welcome relief.

Furthermore, the city’s pizza culture extends beyond the deep-pan style with which it is often associated: restaurants like as the renowned Spacca Napoli serve exclusively classic Italian thin crust pizza, which is a delicacy in its own right.Among the greatest places in town to sample deep-pan Chicago-style pizza is Pequod’s Pizza, which offers a wide variety of delicious options in both categories.3.Joe Hall’s Frank Pepe’s in New Haven, Connecticut, a tiny American city famed for its pizza culture, is the setting for this feast.

As any pizza enthusiast in the United States will tell you, New Haven has established a reputation for producing world-class pizza by developing its own particular spin on the Neapolitan style.A large part of this may be attributed to Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria, a Neapolitan pizza establishment that serves a simple pizza with a wide thin crust, tomato sauce, oregano, and a little amount of grated pecorino romano cheese on the side.White clams and garlic are added to this foundation to make Frank’s famous white clam pizza, which is a New York City institution.

    1. Sally’s Apizza, which has claimed the title of ″best pizzeria in town″ since it first opened its doors in 1938, would not be pleased with the amount of attention lavished on Frank’s.
    2. Sally’s pizzas are enormous and use mozzarella as a typical topping.
    3. 2.
    4. Dine at some of America’s most well-known pizzerias in and around Trenton, New Jersey, which have been in business for decades.

Continuing your journey a few hours south of New York, you will come across another city that is home to an abundance of excellent pizzerias, all of which have a particular old-world flavor about them.Probably the most famous pizza joint in and around Trenton is Papa’s Tomato Pies, which is located a few miles away in the nearby town of Robbinsville and claims to be the oldest family-run pizzeria in the United States, according to its website.Given that it has been in operation since 1912, it is most likely.Additionally, while in Robbinsville, you should stop by De Lorenzo’s, another Trenton institution with a national renown that has lately expanded its operations to Robbinsville.

Lastly, Massimo’s, which has outlets in both Trenton and Robbinsville and specializes in perfectly executed Neapolitan pizzas with that instantly identifiable puffy dough, is the newest challenger.1.New York City is the birthplace of pizza in the United States.

If Naples was the origin of pizza on a worldwide scale, then New York is the city that gave birth to pizza in the United States. When Gennaro Lombardi asked for a license to sell pizza from his Spring Street business in 1905, he became the first person in the United States to do so.New York City, which boasts some of the best pizzerias in the country, continues to be the epicenter of American pizza culture today.

Di Fara is known for its expertly cooked, authentic Italian thin crust pizza, which has garnered several honors.Spumoni Gardens, situated in Brooklyn, serves pizza that is a little less typical in that it is rectangular and contains cheese beneath the sauce, yet it has garnered a devoted following.Roberta’s in Bushwick, on the other hand, is renowned for her basic yet delicious margheritas.A cuisine tour of New York’s pizza scene is a fascinating approach to get a feel for the city’s pizza culture.A Slice of Brooklyn conducts frequent tours of Brooklyn’s greatest pizza joints, and the company consistently receives positive feedback from its customers.

50 Top Pizza USA: Tony’s Pizza Napoletana is the Best in the US

    1. The United States is believed to be the second home of pizza after Italy, which is considered to be the birthplace of the dish.
    2. In support of this, the latest edition of the 50 Top Pizza rating, the most essential reference in the industry, has been published online and is available to the public for free.
    3. Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, a San Francisco (California) restaurant run by expert pizza-maker Tony Gemignani, has been named the winner of the 50 Top Pizza USA 2021 – Prosecco DOC Award, which was created in partnership with S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna – competition.
    • Una Pizza Napoletana, a Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, operated by Anthony Mangieri, comes in second place, with a pie with a prominent crust and a soft texture, and is noted for its pie with a prominent crust and a soft texture.
    • Spacca Napoli, a pizzeria in Chicago (Illinois) where Jonathan Goldsmith serves up some of the city’s most famous pizza, won the bronze medal.
    • Ribalta, owned and operated by Rosario Procino and Pasquale Cozzolino, comes in fourth place as a symbol of Italian taste in New York.
    • Razza Pizza Artigianale in Jersey City, the pizzeria owned by Dan Richer, comes in fifth place overall (New Jersey).
    • Despite the fact that the 50 pizzerias are spread over various states in the United States (including Hawaii), the majority of the locations are concentrated along the country’s two coastlines.

However, it is New York, with 11 pizzerias on the list, that reigns supreme in terms of the total number of pizzerias on the list, establishing the city as the pizza capital of the United States. An comprehensive investigation by the inspectors of 50 Top Pizza, who over the course of a year checked an enormous number of pizzerias around the nation, always in an anonymous manner, led to the publication of this rating. What are the criteria for judging?Starting with the dough and ingredients used as toppings, then moving on to the service and wine and beer menus, as well as the overall level of customer service and attentiveness.

    • However, even if the pandemic had a role in the results this year, the inspectors did not allow themselves to be frightened, and for the pizzerias where it was not feasible to eat on-site, the judging was done by delivery.
    • According to Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, the three curators of the 50 Top Pizza initiative, ″we have assessed numerous Italian-American restaurants.″ ″We have reviewed many Italian-American restaurants,″ they added.
    • A strong indication of the continuous immigrant wave that began more than a century ago and continues now.
    • ″A phenomena that has elevated pizza to a popular food item throughout the United States, and as a result, has led to the cuisine’s international popularity.″ ″There are a variety of pizza styles available, ranging from the classic Neapolitan to the New York-style, and everything in between,″ says the author.
    • Finally, a trend that we would like to call attention to is the one that blends pizza with bread, which is the white art of the highest order.
    • In reality, many of those listed in this ranking, including some of the most well-known companies, are progressively integrating their bread-making operations with their pizza-making operations, resulting in goods of equivalent quality being offered.
    • ″There is a new wave that is impacting Italy and the rest of Europe.″

The Test and What We Were Looking For

    • Let’s face it: judging a pizza is a difficult task! You have to take into consideration the dough, the toppings, the time it took for the pizza to be delivered, and a slew of other factors. The exact identical order was placed at each location in order to ensure that the test was as fair as possible. The orders were a medium pepperoni pizza and a medium cheese pizza. In the end, I stuck with whatever the normal crust choice was and didn’t add any additions to it—no extra cheese, no more toppings, no other flavor mixes baked into the crust, nothing. The following pizza chains were included in this test (sorry, California Pizza Kitchen fans—try these recipes instead!): Domino’s, Jet, Little Caesar’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s Pizza.
    1. Among the judging criteria were a fulfilling pizza with a variety of tasty toppings and lots of them, which my testing team and I were on the lookout for during the process.
    2. We were looking for gooey, melty cheese, a crunchy crust, a delicious sauce, and a fair ratio between all of these ingredients.
    3. We were searching for a pizza that would make us want to come back for another slice and order another pie the following week, and this was the most critical factor for us.
    • Try this recipe to ensure that you get the ideal ‘za at home every time.

    5. Jet’s

    1. Because Jet’s offers such a large selection of pizzas on its menu, this was a difficult decision to make.
    2. You may choose from a variety of crusts, including thin crust, deep dish, hand-tossed, and New York-style crust—or you can try one of their specialty pizzas, the four (or eight) corner pizza.
    3. In addition, Jet’s offers a variety of specialized topping combinations.

    • Learn about the 23 things that the pizza delivery person will not tell you.
    • Nonetheless, for the sake of this experiment, we chose the hand-tossed method for both our cheese and pepperoni pizzas.
    • There were lots of toppings on the pizza, which was a positive, but it appeared to be somewhat oily (yes, even by delivery pizza standards) and the dough was chewier than we would have liked.
    • Some members of the workforce were taken aback by this.

However, when I asked them what they normally purchased from Jet’s, they stated that their favorites were the four-corner pizzas and Jet’s Bread. When eating at Jet’s, it appears as though you should consider going above and beyond the traditional pizza selections to sample their other offerings.A medium one-topping pizza costs $8.99 at locations around the country.4 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    4. Papa John’s

    1. Papa John’s was the most costly pizza we sampled, yet it didn’t wow any of our taste testers, despite being the most expensive.
    2. The tomato sauce had a hint of sweetness to it, but there was no spice or fire to balance it out in any way.
    3. The crust was also a little softer than we would have liked.
    • The real kicker was the cheese, which appeared to break into chunks rather of pulling apart in the gooey way we are accustomed to seeing it do.
    • Having said that, we did love the pepperoni—and our tasters were virtually giddy after dipping their slice in the chain’s trademark garlic sauce, which we found to be delicious.

    3. Pizza Hut

    1. Pizza Hut brought up many happy memories for the majority of testers (including me).
    2. What youngster of the 1990s didn’t like the personal pan pizza that arrived after completing a sufficient number of books as part of the BOOK IT!
    3. initiative?
    • So, with that in mind, we were delighted to go into the classic pan pizza from the company.
    • When we first opened the box, we both agreed that it was a very gorgeous pizza.
    • What about the taste, though?
    • With regards to the sauce and toppings, Pizza Hut outdid themselves.
    • There was a generous amount of pepperoni placed on top, which had a fantastic crunchy texture.

In addition, the cheese was rather amazing. There were plenty of ooey-gooey moments because to the creaminess and meltiness of the dessert. The crust, on the other hand, left us with mixed sentiments. We expected a lot more dough from a pan pizza than we did with hand-tossed or cracker thin choices, but the crust itself was a little underwhelming.

    • You can create your own pizza dough at home if you want to learn how.
    • This dish tasted great, however it lacked crispness on the bottom and around the perimeter.
    • Because this might be a one-time occurrence, we wouldn’t rule out Pizza Hut as a potential future partner.
    • In addition, the breadsticks are a particular favorite of mine.

    2. Little Caesar’s

    1. We weren’t expecting a pizza this amazing for only six dollars, but Little Caesar’s pleasantly surprised us with its quality.
    2. We tried the EXTRAMOSTBESTEST (yep, that’s what they call it) pepperoni and cheese pies from the chain and were completely smitten.
    3. It’s worth mentioning that the chain also provided pretzel crust as an alternative to the traditional crust.
    • Yum!
    • We were all thrilled with the quantity of toppings that were included on each slice.
    • ″Wow!″ said one tester on her comment card after seeing the results.
    • ″Pepperoni, pepperoni, pepperoni!″ These pepperoni also had a slight crunch to the edges, which is a trademark of a well prepared sausage.
    • The sauce on this pizza was also a hit with us.

I really enjoyed the tomato flavor, and it had a nice bite to it.As for the crust, Little Caesar’s got it right as well: it was crunchy on the surface and fluffy on the inside, providing a nice compromise for folks who can’t decide between pan pizza and thin crust. Are you perplexed about crust? Here’s our definitive guide to the many regional pizza styles.

    • However, you can easily book a pick up through their Pizza Portal online if you choose not to wait for delivery.

    1. Domino’s

    1. Our favorite pizza in this test was Domino’s, which we enjoyed from beginning to end.
    2. Domino’s not only had the finest flavor, but it was also the most convenient to order from.
    3. You can also plan your delivery online ahead of time, which is a terrific way to ensure that you get your pizza right when the cravings strike.
    • On the drive to the workplace, we were able to keep track of the development of our pizza thanks to the Pizza Tracker.
    • And, granted, other restaurants provide order tracking, but Domino’s provided the most extensive and straightforward instructions.
    • However, the tracker was only the icing on the cake.
    • Everyone was gushing over this pizza, and it was no exception.
    • This pie managed to meet each and every one of our requirements.

Perfectly flavored and seasoning was used in the preparation of the sauce. The cheese was really melty and creamy, which is precisely what we look for in an excellent mozzarella cheese. In particular, we were delighted with the amount of toppings that were crammed into our pepperoni pie. There was a slight crispness to the edges of the slices.

    • The crust, on the other hand, was the true star of the show.
    • It held up to all of the toppings and cheese, which was ideal for testers on the go (no need for a plate!).
    • The crust, by far, was the most delicious component of the dish.
    • In addition, the crust’s edge was coated with a herb combination, making it lovely and crispy around the edges.
    • Although it may not seem like much, this dusting of Italian spice was enough to propel Domino’s to the top of the leaderboard.
    • Yes, it was that wonderful in all honesty!
    • We received the impression that once we had consumed the most of our slices, we were entitled to a bonus breadstick.
    • This crust, in our opinion, is what really made this pizza a winner.
    • We also have a go-to pizza chain for our office pizza parties, which is great!
    • Pizza Hut offers a medium one-topping pizza for $9.99 in stores all around the world.
    • 8 / 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    The Bottom Line

    1. In terms of chain pizza, I’m pleased to suggest Domino’s and Little Caesar’s without hesitation when it comes to the best available.
    2. Both were a great hit in pizza parties (there wasn’t a single piece of pizza left!).
    3. However, if you do happen to have leftover pizza, this is the single greatest method for rewarming it.
    • These pizzas received the greatest accolades because they fulfilled all of the criteria: a delicious sauce, a generous amount of toppings, gooey, creamy cheese, and a delightfully crisp dough.
    • It also helps that both Domino’s and Little Caesar’s are almost omnipresent, which is a plus.
    • There are more than 5,000 Little Caesar’s franchise locations across the world.
    • Domino’s, on the other hand, has over 16,000 locations globally.
    • Those numbers are astounding, but they reassure me that I can always get a nice pizza delivered quickly, no matter where I am.

All of that being said, if you’re in the mood for pizza, any kind of pizza will do.So pick your favorite—even if it’s your neighborhood pizza joint—then kick back and enjoy a relaxing Friday night. As for me, I’ll be placing an order with Domino’s.This article was first published on April 02, 2019.
