Searching for the Best Pizza Chain

When I get home from a long week at work, there’s nothing better than snuggling up in front of the television with my favorite program and a slice of pizza.A fast and easy dish like one of these will do the trick if I’ve had a nice week.If I know I’m going to be pressed for time, I’ll go for one of our frozen alternatives that are a staff favorite.

I will admit that certain weeks are simply overwhelming and I want nothing more than a pizza that involves no more work than calling the latest pizza restaurant to place an order for delivery.Choosing between different pizza shops, on the other hand, is a challenging task for me.A couple of pizza businesses will deliver directly to my door, but I never know which one will bring a pizza that is truly outstanding on every level. That indicates that a test was required! So I enlisted the support of some of Taste of Home’s greatest pizza fans to assist me in selecting the finest pizza chain.2 out of 8

The Test and What We Were Looking For

    • Let’s face it: judging a pizza is a difficult task! You have to take into consideration the dough, the toppings, the time it took for the pizza to be delivered, and a slew of other factors. The exact identical order was placed at each location in order to ensure that the test was as fair as possible. The orders were a medium pepperoni pizza and a medium cheese pizza. In the end, I stuck with whatever the normal crust choice was and didn’t add any additions to it—no extra cheese, no more toppings, no other flavor mixes baked into the crust, nothing. The following pizza chains were included in this test (sorry, California Pizza Kitchen fans—try these recipes instead!): Domino’s, Jet, Little Caesar’s, Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s Pizza.

Among the judging criteria were a fulfilling pizza with a variety of tasty toppings and lots of them, which my testing team and I were on the lookout for during the process. We were looking for gooey, melty cheese, a crunchy crust, a delicious sauce, and a fair ratio between all of these ingredients. We were searching for a pizza that would make us want to come back for another slice and order another pie the following week, and this was the most critical factor for us.

Try this recipe to ensure that you get the ideal ‘za at home every time.3 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    5. Jet’s

Because Jet’s offers such a large selection of pizzas on its menu, this was a difficult decision to make. You may choose from a variety of crusts, including thin crust, deep dish, hand-tossed, and New York-style crust—or you can try one of their specialty pizzas, the four (or eight) corner pizza. In addition, Jet’s offers a variety of specialized topping combinations.

Are you a pizza purist?Learn about the 23 things that the pizza delivery person will not tell you.Nonetheless, for the sake of this experiment, we chose the hand-tossed method for both our cheese and pepperoni pizzas. There were lots of toppings on the pizza, which was a positive, but it appeared to be somewhat oily (yes, even by delivery pizza standards) and the dough was chewier than we would have liked. Some members of the workforce were taken aback by this. However, when I asked them what they normally purchased from Jet’s, they stated that their favorites were the four-corner pizzas and Jet’s Bread.

When eating at Jet’s, it appears as though you should consider going above and beyond the traditional pizza selections to sample their other offerings.A medium one-topping pizza costs $8.99 at locations around the country.4 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    4. Papa John’s

Papa John’s was the most costly pizza we sampled, yet it didn’t wow any of our taste testers, despite being the most expensive. The tomato sauce had a hint of sweetness to it, but there was no spice or fire to balance it out in any way.The crust was also a little softer than we would have liked.

The real kicker was the cheese, which appeared to break into chunks rather of pulling apart in the gooey way we are accustomed to seeing it do.Having said that, we did love the pepperoni—and our tasters were virtually giddy after dipping their slice in the chain’s trademark garlic sauce, which we found to be delicious.Following that, don’t miss these 16 copycat pizza recipes that will make your house taste like a restaurant.A medium one-topping pizza costs $12.49 at locations around the country.5 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    3. Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut brought up many happy memories for the majority of testers (including me). What youngster of the 1990s didn’t like the personal pan pizza that arrived after completing a sufficient number of books as part of the BOOK IT!initiative?

So, with that in mind, we were delighted to go into the classic pan pizza from the company. When we first opened the box, we both agreed that it was a very gorgeous pizza. What about the taste, though? With regards to the sauce and toppings, Pizza Hut outdid themselves. There was a generous amount of pepperoni placed on top, which had a fantastic crunchy texture. In addition, the cheese was rather amazing.

There were plenty of ooey-gooey moments because to the creaminess and meltiness of the dessert. The crust, on the other hand, left us with mixed sentiments. We expected a lot more dough from a pan pizza than we did with hand-tossed or cracker thin choices, but the crust itself was a little underwhelming. You can create your own pizza dough at home if you want to learn how. This dish tasted great, however it lacked crispness on the bottom and around the perimeter.Because this might be a one-time occurrence, we wouldn’t rule out Pizza Hut as a potential future partner.

    1. In addition, the breadsticks are a particular favorite of mine.
    2. A medium one-topping pizza costs $11.18 at places all around the country.
    3. 6 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    2. Little Caesar’s

We weren’t expecting a pizza this amazing for only six dollars, but Little Caesar’s pleasantly surprised us with its quality. We tried the EXTRAMOSTBESTEST (yep, that’s what they call it) pepperoni and cheese pies from the chain and were completely smitten. It’s worth mentioning that the chain also provided pretzel crust as an alternative to the traditional crust.

Yum!We were all thrilled with the quantity of toppings that were included on each slice.″Wow!″ said one tester on her comment card after seeing the results.″Pepperoni, pepperoni, pepperoni!″ These pepperoni also had a slight crunch to the edges, which is a trademark of a well prepared sausage. The sauce on this pizza was also a hit with us.I really enjoyed the tomato flavor, and it had a nice bite to it.

As for the crust, Little Caesar’s got it right as well: it was crunchy on the surface and fluffy on the inside, providing a nice compromise for folks who can’t decide between pan pizza and thin crust. Are you perplexed about crust? Here’s our definitive guide to the many regional pizza styles. However, you can easily book a pick up through their Pizza Portal online if you choose not to wait for delivery. The only downside to this pizza is that Little Caesar’s does not provide delivery. However, at only six dollars, I’m prepared to travel a small distance for pizza this delicious.

    1. A medium one-topping pizza costs $6.00 at places all around the country.
    2. 7 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    1. Domino’s

Our favorite pizza in this test was Domino’s, which we enjoyed from beginning to end.Domino’s not only had the finest flavor, but it was also the most convenient to order from. You can also plan your delivery online ahead of time, which is a terrific way to ensure that you get your pizza right when the cravings strike.

On the drive to the workplace, we were able to keep track of the development of our pizza thanks to the Pizza Tracker. And, granted, other restaurants provide order tracking, but Domino’s provided the most extensive and straightforward instructions. However, the tracker was only the icing on the cake.Everyone was gushing over this pizza, and it was no exception. This pie managed to meet each and every one of our requirements.Perfectly flavored and seasoning was used in the preparation of the sauce.

The cheese was really melty and creamy, which is precisely what we look for in an excellent mozzarella cheese. In particular, we were delighted with the amount of toppings that were crammed into our pepperoni pie. There was a slight crispness to the edges of the slices. The crust, on the other hand, was the true star of the show.It held up to all of the toppings and cheese, which was ideal for testers on the go (no need for a plate!).The crust, by far, was the most delicious component of the dish.

    1. In addition, the crust’s edge was coated with a herb combination, making it lovely and crispy around the edges.
    2. Although it may not seem like much, this dusting of Italian spice was enough to propel Domino’s to the top of the leaderboard.
    3. Yes, it was that wonderful in all honesty!
    4. We received the impression that once we had consumed the most of our slices, we were entitled to a bonus breadstick.
    5. This crust, in our opinion, is what really made this pizza a winner.

We also have a go-to pizza chain for our office pizza parties, which is great!Pizza Hut offers a medium one-topping pizza for $9.99 in stores all around the world.8 out of 8 Lisa Kaminski of Taste of Home contributed to this article.

    The Bottom Line

In terms of chain pizza, I’m pleased to suggest Domino’s and Little Caesar’s without hesitation when it comes to the best available. Both were a great hit in pizza parties (there wasn’t a single piece of pizza left!).However, if you do happen to have leftover pizza, this is the single greatest method for rewarming it.

These pizzas received the greatest accolades because they fulfilled all of the criteria: a delicious sauce, a generous amount of toppings, gooey, creamy cheese, and a delightfully crisp dough. It also helps that both Domino’s and Little Caesar’s are almost omnipresent, which is a plus. There are more than 5,000 Little Caesar’s franchise locations across the world.Domino’s, on the other hand, has over 16,000 locations globally. Those numbers are astounding, but they reassure me that I can always get a nice pizza delivered quickly, no matter where I am.All of that being said, if you’re in the mood for pizza, any kind of pizza will do.

So pick your favorite—even if it’s your neighborhood pizza joint—then kick back and enjoy a relaxing Friday night. As for me, I’ll be placing an order with Domino’s.This article was first published on April 02, 2019.

The Best Type of Pizzas to Eat

Photograph courtesy of Steve Mason/Photodisc/Getty Images The MyPlate recommendations from the United States Department of Agriculture indicate that you fill half of your plate with vegetables and divide the other half evenly between a portion of lean protein and a dish of whole grain. In the right hands, a pizza may satisfy all of these criteria in a single serving. You may make your pizza more nutritious by adjusting the amounts of the ingredients (meat, cheese, toppings, and dough).

    Thin Crust

Because it has less volume than a thick, doughy pizza crust, a thin, cracker-like pizza crust has less calories than a thick, doughy pizza crust. Two slices of thin-crust pizza with a 14-inch crust contain between 250 and 600 calories, depending on the toppings.Approximately 500 to 900 calories are included in two slices of deep-dish pizza with the same diameter.

Make up for the lost crust volume with more veggies piled on top of the pizza, and you’ll be close to meeting the MyPlate recommendations for a nutritious lunch.Consider the pizza dough to be a vehicle for delicious toppings, and you’ll end up with a better balanced pizza.

    Whole Wheat

Though whole wheat flour does not reduce the number of calories in a meal, it does provide you with more important nutrition and fiber in exchange for your calorie expenditure. It has been suggested that the added fiber in whole wheat flour may help to make your pizza more gratifying, according to a research published in Nutrition Reviews on dietary fiber and weight management A little more selenium and magnesium will also be added to your diet, however the quantity you get will depend on how much pizza you consume and the wheat mix used in the pizza dough.Make your pizza with whole wheat dough for a more nutritious meal.

    Vegetables

A pizza may be transformed into a nutritious dinner by putting veggies on top of it.In addition to the tomato sauce on your pizza, topping it with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, or olives provides a plethora of nutrients and fiber. These generally nutrient-dense, but low-calorie ingredients help to bring a pizza into compliance with MyPlate recommendations for vegetable servings while also providing you with a great diversity of flavors.

For those who prefer to cook their own pizza, experiment with unique vegetable combinations that commercial pizza parlors may not have on hand, such as artichokes, asparagus, eggplant, or zucchini.

    Protein

Part-skim Despite the fact that mozzarella cheese melts and tastes similar to full-fat variants, it has less calories.Protein is provided by the cheese on your pizza – around 2 to 4 grams per slice, depending on the thickness – but by using lean meats in your lunch, you may increase the amount of protein even more. However, there are turkey sausage and pepperoni options available that are lower in calories and fat than traditional sausage and pepperoni options.

Making your own pizza also allows you to customize it with your favorite toppings, such as shredded lean pork, sliced chicken, or smoked turkey. If you’re ordering from a pizza restaurant, opt for ham over higher-fat meats like pepperoni or sausage.

    Portion Size

Even the healthiest foods might cause you to exceed your calorie allowance if you consume them in large quantities. In a 14-inch thin-crust pizza topped with veggies and shredded chicken, the calories per two-slice meal range from 300 to 500 calories, but the entire pie can contain as much as 2,000 calories.Add a green salad or a few marinated pepperoncini peppers to your dinner to help keep the calories and fat in check while you’re eating pizza.

    The Best Pizza Styles, Ranked

Looking at pizza with a critical eye has proven to be one of the most challenging things we’ve ever had to do.After all, pizza is just pizza.Pizza is always delicious, whether it is served hot from the oven or warmed after a couple of days in the refrigerator or freezer.

Essentially, it is the culinary equivalent of a bear hug: it feels nice, and we don’t want it to end.Despite our unwavering devotion to this cuisine, the reality is that certain dishes are superior than others. If you take a short look at the many different varieties of pizza available, you will see that we are a country of pizza enthusiasts. However, it also implies that we must rank these pies in a wholly subjective manner, from worst to best in terms of pizza style, in order to properly evaluate them.Despite the fact that we assigned this work to ourselves, you should be aware that this was a very, very difficult undertaking.Sure, there are some pizza variants popular in this nation that aren’t all that fantastic – no matter how much we adore them – and as a result, they were simple to put low on the list of the best.

However, many of our country’s pizzas are deliciously tasty in their own distinct ways, and it was difficult to choose out one that was better than the next in this competition. However, we gave it our best effort. You should be aware right away that not every single pizza style available in the United States is featured here – there are simply too many to list. However, the ones that made it onto the list were considered and judged with a great deal of respect and affection. This is a list of the best pizza styles, listed in descending order from the worst to the absolute finest: Pizzas in the Style of Bagel (Also Known As Pizza Bagels) LizLemonCooks/Flickr Pizza is a favorite of ours.Bagels are a favorite of ours.

Chilled supermarket pizzas: the best and worst – taste test

If you prefer to cook from scratch, it’s doubtful that you’ll consume a lot of pizza. It takes anything from a couple of hours to 48 hours to prove the dough, so you won’t be able to whip one up on the spur of the moment. This discomfort may be one of the reasons why the market for chilled supermarket pizzas has grown exponentially over the past decade.

They have become a mainstay of the British shopping cart because they are perceived as the thin and crispy connoisseur’s option, and they are vastly superior than frozen. But, in terms of quality, do any of them truly compete with restaurants? We inquired of the margheritas to find out the answer.

Ocado, Pizza Express classic margherita, 245g, £4.50

They say that it is not the size of the object that matters, but what you do with it.And this was an 8-inch slap in the face of expectations. The label says that the Pizza Express margherita hasn’t changed since 1965, yet based on this evidence, it is in desperate need of an upgrade right now.

It seems and tastes as though the toppings are sparse despite the large quantities (24 percent each of mozzarella and tomatoes).Individually, it has a pleasant acidity, but the tomato sauce is distributed so thinly that it fails to express itself, and the base (which has a commendably crisp surface but is mushy on the inside) lacks any vivid flavor. The only thing that distinguishes this one-dimensional slice is the delicious, albeit mild, mozzarella.4/10

    Co-op, Truly Irresistible margherita, 495g, £4.50

This was a 12.5in by 9in rectangular behemoth that looked fantastic. The enticing toppings, on the other hand, clump together in large, unappealing lumps. The buffalo mozzarella sludge in the centre of the pizza is acceptable, but it only provides a faint echo of the creamy freshness you’d expect from such a high-quality product.

The ″marinated sunkissed tomatoes,″ which are outrageously sweet and aggressively sour, take over each bite in which they appear. There’s nothing wrong with the tomato sauce, though it’s a little flat and muted in a jarred-pasta-sauce kind of way. However, there should be more of it to titivate a thick, bready foundation that lacks the lactic acid zing you anticipate from a fermented sourdough.5/10

Sainsbury’s, Taste the Difference mozzarella and SunBlush tomato pizza, 515g, £5

This 12in was a cut above the rest since it was one of the few where the base baked adequately in the time allotted.Even if the foundation (which is coated with semolina) should be a little thinner, the slices droop realistically at their tips, and the dough is crisp but malleable. It also has a distinct flavor, albeit that of baked crackers.

Because of the generous amount of toppings – well-judged SunBlush cherry tomatoes, mozzarella with high elastic resistance and a noticeable flavor, and an adequately fresh tomato sauce– the dish comes together in wonderful form, aided by some pronounced seasoning (you’d swear there’s sea salt on it). This is a respectable piece.7/10

Aldi, Specially Selected hand-stretched tomato, mozzarella and pesto pizza, 453g, £2.99

This 12in looked good, but it was just a rehash of the flaws made by the Co-op.In the oven, three mozzarella pearls melt into sickly puddles that taste cheap and become plasticky as they cool.Meanwhile, chunks of semi-dried tomato (unpleasant in their strangely exaggerated sweet and sour flavor) remind you why most people stopped using this ingredient around the year 2001.

There is far more cheese in this version and the foundation has a light, if not quite crisp, texture to it.Overall, though, this is a yo-yo between bland and mouthfuls of foul-tasting muck that is unappealing. The packaging, which was chosen by specialists, is intended to reassure us.It’s time to reassess things.4/10

    Tesco, Finest wood-fired margherita, 315g, £4.25

Despite the fact that it didn’t appear like much, this 10in looked like an old banger with a V6 engine, and it was rather tasty.Everything is perfectly distributed, and the cheese extends all the way up to the edge of the dish, leaving you with lovely brown strands around the rim.The tomato sauce has a strong flavor and is well-seasoned.

The base is airy and crunchy, yet it is still bendable, with a centre that is virtually paper-thin.Despite the fact that the blurb overeggs the ″genuine flavor of Italy″ flannel, it is evident that this was developed by a pizza enthusiast (Italian 00 flour base; revered San Marzano tomatoes in the sauce; notably creamy buffalo mozzarella, hand-torn and scattered, rather than left in big, showy balls). The same meal could be purchased at your local pizza parlor and you would be quite pleased with the results.8/10

    M&S, wood-fired margherita, 480g, £3.99

This 12in has all of the makings of a potential winner in my opinion.Despite its jammy character, it is the first pizza to include a real thick, visible underlay of tomato sauce that offers a relatively accurate flavor despite its thick, visible underlay.A lovely milky flavor and texture characterize the buffalo mozzarella from Campania, while it is not overpowering in its milkiness.

The weak, lifeless foundation, on the other hand, significantly limits its prospects. It is shattered-dry around the edges, but lacks the slightest hint of crisp ″bite″ in the center, despite the fact that it has been cooked for a further 15 minutes.Fundamentally, it doesn’t seem to fit together well enough.6.5/10

Waitrose, hand-stretched, thin and crispy margherita, 400g, £4

    1. When I took my first bite, I got a large, woody whiff of dried-out basil (which is terrible baked on a pizza; fresh basil should be added afterwards), which placed this 11in on the back foot right away.
    2. It was never able to fully recover.
    3. The base is thin (excellent tip-droop!
    4. ), though not perfectly crisp, and the cheeses (an intriguing combination of mozzarella, provolone, and regato) shove up near to the well browned edges of the pizza.
    5. The mozzarella, on the other hand, is a little underwhelming, and the crimson bits of marinated tomato appear more appealing than they taste.
    • When you include in the uneven distribution of the main components, this pizza is a forgettable disappointment.
    • 5/10 This article was updated on February 26, 2015, to explain the amount of time required to prove pizza dough in the oven.

A Guide to Making the Five Most Iconic Pizzas of All Time

    1. Trendy pizza toppings come and go, but there are a select topping combinations that have stood the test of time and have become legendary pizzas in and of themselves.
    2. These are the kinds of pizzas you’ll find at every pizza shop and on every delivery menu, and they’re the kinds of pizzas we feel any home chef should be able to make on their own.
    3. These are the five most famous pizzas in the history of the world!
    4. The Margherita is considered to be the mother of all pizzas.
    5. It features a thin crust, fresh tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella cheese, and only a few basil leaves on top, which is typical of Neopaltian-style pizza.
    • Though the toppings on a Margherita are straightforward, they have the ability to be absolutely magnificent in a manner that few other toppings can match.

How to Make Margherita Pizza at Home

    1. Bake this pizza at a high temperature in an oven or, even better, on a grill.
    2. When making this pizza, it is critical to roll or stretch the dough thinly in order to achieve a crisp but yet malleable crust.
    3. This will ensure that the sauce and cheese only barely cook as the crust blisters.
    4. Fresh, in-season tomatoes are preferred for creating the sauce, although canned whole San Marzano tomatoes can be used for the remaining ten months of the year if fresh tomatoes are not available.
    5. Never boil the sauce for margarita pizzas unless absolutely necessary.
    • Fresh mozzarella should be cut thickly and put on top of the sauce in a patchwork pattern.
    • Pepperoni is still the most popular pizza topping in the United States, according to our estimates.
    • This one-of-a-kind topping is even included on the pizza emoji!
    • It makes sense when you examine all of the positive aspects of pepperoni, such as the following: Despite being sandwiched between sheets of melty, gooey cheese, the salty and slightly spicy flavor holds its own against the waves of gooey cheese and becomes ever-so-slightly crisped in the hot oven in such a crave-worthy way that no one can resist pulling them straight from the smoldering hot pizza and dropping them straight into their mouths.

    3. Peppers are often given with a crunchiness to their taste, but when they are baked on a pizza, they become substantially softer in texture.
    4. This softer texture contrasts significantly better with the crisp of your pizza base, and the flavor is spot on as well.

    Chicken

    1. Chicken isn’t a typical topping for pizza, but it is one that a large number of people prefer anyway.
    2. With meat, chicken is always a safe pick because it is practically impossible for chicken to have a terrible flavor because it is so tender.

    Pesto

    1. Another contentious alternative is available to us.
    2. Individuals are prepared to die for tomato-based sauces on pizza, therefore a pesto-based pizza that serves as the basis sauce is just too much for some people.
    3. However, keep in mind that you are not need to cover the entire pizza base with pesto; instead, you may only drizzle it on top of a margarita pizza if you like that look.

Who Eats the Most Pizza in the World? The Answer May Surprise You

Everyone knows that pizza originated in Italy, but it may come as a surprise to learn that the country does not dominate the world in terms of consumption. We must drive much farther up Northwestern Europe to the little nation of Norway, which is a long distance away. The United States surprises many by being the nation with the highest per capita pizza consumption in a calendar year.

    1. Norway

    1. On a per-person basis, Norwegians consume the greatest amount of pizza in the world.
    2. This little country has a population of around 5.5 million people who consume approximately 5 kg (11 lbs) of pizza per person per year.
    3. If you ever find yourself in Norway, you’ll notice that there are pizza places on practically every street corner you turn.
    4. Norwegians also eat a lot of pizza at home, which is usually purchased frozen and baked in the oven.
    5. Grandiosa is the name of the most popular frozen pizza on the market.

    2. USA

There are more than 327 million people living in the United States, and 350 pieces of pizza are consumed every second. Despite this, Americans do not consume enough pizza to overtake Norway as the world’s leading pizza consumer. This country, which is often regarded as the ″birthplace of fast food,″ must settle for second place in the rankings.

    3. United Kingdom

Pizza is a popular food in the United Kingdom, with more than half of the population eating it at least once every 10 days. With a population of more than 66 million people, it is a significant number of pizza.

    4. Germany

Germany comes in fourth position, with a hundred pieces of pizza consumed every two seconds in the country. That is not enough pizza per person to earn a position on the podium in a country with more than 82 million residents.

    5. Italy

Italy is often regarded as the birthplace of pizza, yet the country is only ranked sixth on this list, which is unexpected. Napoli is widely regarded as the birthplace of Italian pizza, and the culinary technique of ″Pizzaiuolo″ (the art of preparing authentic Neapolitan Pizza) was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2017.

    6. Russia

    1. Pizza has been incredibly popular in Russia in recent years, and Pizza Hut is well-known and widely distributed across the city of Moscow and its surrounding areas.
    2. Dodo Pizza is a Russian pizza delivery franchise that was created in 2011 and has expanded to 11 additional countries with 457 pizzerias.
