REVIEW: Domino’s Chicken Taco Pizza

I was born and raised in Iowa. What is the significance of this?Because Iowa was the birthplace of the first taco pizza.

  1. Happy Joe’s, a Midwest-based pizza company, is credited with inventing the concept in 1974.
  2. When I was growing up, taco pizza was a staple in our household, complete with refried beans, taco-seasoned ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, taco chips sprinkled on top (my personal favorite part), and taco sauce on the side.
  3. Despite the fact that Domino’s Chicken Taco Pizza lacked several of these elements, I was interested in giving it a shot.
  4. I could’ve made my own tortilla chips and salsa, but alas, these were not available in my kitchen when I placed my order.
  5. There’s also American cheese, taco spice, grilled chicken, onions, green peppers, tomatoes, provolone cheese, and cheddar cheese, among other ingredients.
  • It appears to have been constructed in this manner as well.
  • It does not have typical sauce, but rather American cheese and taco spice, which are substituted for it.
  • The foundation components on my pizza were not evenly distributed, with my first slice being heavy on the spice and my second piece being heavier on the American cheese.
  • Seasoning is essential in bringing out the taco flavor in this dish.
  • In addition, I don’t know many people who use American cheese in their standard taco ingredient combination.
  • Despite the fact that the other ingredients were more evenly distributed, they all melded together, with no one ingredient overwhelming the others.
  1. As predicted, there were noticeable variances in texture – a piece of chicken tastes and feels very different from a string of green pepper.
  2. The provolone and cheddar cheeses also melded together and began to congeal, which is something that happens to pizza cheese if it is not eaten right afterwards.
  3. Most likely, this was due to the time lapse between when my pizza was ready and when I really got to eat into it.
  4. (It took roughly 30 minutes from the time the Domino’s Pizza Tracker indicated that my pizza was ready until it eventually made its way into my mouth!) As a result, it lacked cheesy ooziness as well as a strong fragrance, which are two characteristics that usually make me want to dig into a pizza.
  5. Domino’s has marketed this (as well as their new Cheeseburger Pizza) as ″built for delivery,″ despite the fact that tacos and burgers are not often considered ″delivery-friendly″ food items.
  6. This pizza is not a taco substitute, but it is a good Domino’s dish that has been infused with taco flavour and texture (mostly the seasoning).

Some of the components are similar to those found in a taco, while the onion and green peppers appear to be more fajita-like in appearance.I propose adding some chips (hard-shell chunks or crushed Doritos) and salsa to give it a taco-inspired flair to give it your own personal touch. While I do not believe Domino’s Chicken Taco Pizza can be compared to the ″original″ taco pizza, I would order it again if I wanted something different from a typical slice of cheese pizza.

Domino’s Chicken Taco Pizza [Review]

When it comes to the never-ending war of the chain pizza restaurants, Domino’s has launched a new Chicken Taco Speciality Pizza that is aimed squarely at those who don’t actually want pizza. We take a look to see if it’s any good in the first place. To summarize, the Chicken Taco Pizza from Domino’s has ingredients such as melted American cheese with taco seasoning, grilled chicken, fresh onions, green peppers, chopped tomatoes, provolone cheese, and cheddar cheese.

  1. When I think of a burger or a rustic taco choice, Domino’s isn’t the first place that comes to mind.
  2. But that’s changing.
  3. While other pizza chains are attempting to reach out to your buddy who will not agree with the group’s desire to go out for pizza, Domino’s is pushing the boundaries and introducing two new speciality pies targeted at the taco and cheeseburger lovers in our life.
  4. Personally, I’ve enjoyed chicken on my pies since I was a child, and my love of tacos has no boundaries, so the Chicken Taco pie choice quickly drew my attention….
  5. I immediately observed that the pizza description did not include a sauce, which I thought was a strange omission.
  • Domino’s looks to be depending on Taco Seasoning and chopped tomatoes to keep the fort afloat in the absence of beef.
  • The use of ″taco sauce″ in some of the other taco pizzas I’ve eaten has made this an interesting choice.
  • While there are a variety of methods to order the speciality pizzas at Domino’s, we choose to order Domino’s gold standard ″Carryout Any 2 or More for $5.99″ along with a few other things and add on the $3.00 special pizza surcharge.
  • Nonetheless, $8.99 for a specialty pizza of any size is a good price in my book.
  • After opening the pie, it is immediately apparent that there is a lot of cheese placed on top of it, with a scattering of the fajita-themed toppings on top of that.
  • One thing you can always bet on is that the application of toppings by the employees of a fast food pizza business will be a wild ride at the very best of times.
  1. The pizza turned out to be quite good.
  2. Despite the fact that the aforementioned taco spice did not appear to have a strong presence, the combination of chicken, green peppers, onions, and chopped tomatoes was a delicious one.
  3. That it was a completely filled pie with no skimping on the chicken was undeniably true.
  4. While there was no sauce on the bottom layer, it appeared that there was a white creamy sauce on the bottom layer, which was not the case.
  5. It’s difficult to tell whether or not this specific Domino’s went rogue and started adding a white sauce (Domino’s offers ranch, Alfredo, and garlic parmesan as white sauce options), but the mystery sauce definitely added something to the overall taste profile of the dish.
  6. In my opinion, this pizza would be more suited to be termed the Chicken Fajita pizza, because the peppers and onions, as well as the chicken, are more reminiscent of a fajita dish in flavor.

This did not detract from the flavor, which was rich and satisfying. If there was anything lacking, it would have been additional heat, as this is a really moderate flavor for what is supposed to be a Mexican pie.I believe that throughout the construction of this specific pizza, the seasoning was either nearly completely ignored or barely lightly employed.

This pizza was certainly excellent enough to order again, and in my opinion, it might be even better if the taco spice was applied a little more liberally. While this ″fajita″ pizza from Domino’s is by no means a taco, it is a really good gourmet pizza that is worth trying.PS: Try the Domino’s Parmesan Bread Twists; they were unexpectedly delicious.7 out of 10 for Domino’s Chicken Taco Speciality Pizza.

What is Domino’s Taco Pizza?

Despite the fact that the two most important components of a taco pizza are right there in the name, understanding the concept of taco pizza can be difficult.Nonetheless, if you’re a Midwesterner who has had the pleasure of tasting a taco pizza from Happy Joe’s, which is often recognized as being the inventor of the distinctive ‘za, you may find Domino’s take on the hybrid pie to be a little different from the kind you’ve seen at other pizza restaurants (via Heavy Table). In the first place, Domino’s is known for serving up a chicken taco pizza, so don’t expect to see slices of pizza covered with seasoned beef, similar to what you’d get in Taco Bell tacos, when you open up your pizza box.

  1. Throw aside whatever assumptions you may have had about the normal pizza sauce, since there will be none on this pie.
  2. As an alternative, the Chicken Taco pizza mentioned on the Domino’s menu begins with your choice of dough, which is then covered with taco seasoning, grilled chicken, and a trio of American, Provolone, and Cheddar cheeses before being baked till golden brown.
  3. You may customize your order by adding additional toppings such as jalapenos or banana peppers to the basic mixture of diced tomatoes, onions, and green peppers in this delicious pie.
  4. Regardless matter how you dress your Chicken Taco pizza, the Domino’s website assures that it will be so delicious that you won’t even miss the taco shell.

When did it come out?

When the coronavirus pandemic began in the early months of 2020, restaurants around the world were forced to close their doors to dine-in customers, leaving hungry customers looking for a night off from their kitchens with the option of picking up to-go meals or having them delivered directly to their doors. This, of course, was not a significant problem for the pizza industry, though it was rapidly understood that other meals did not move nearly as well as a pie in terms of convenience. The style of shell you pick for your tacos, for example, might make all the difference in whether or not your meal is a success.

  1. A crunchy outside can quickly become a soggy mess during the delivery route owing to fluids from the taco contents (via Insider).
  2. Following the realization that a large number of customers were dissatisfied with their taco delivery, Domino’s decided to take matters into its own hands.
  3. A Chicken Taco pizza and a Cheeseburger pizza were added to the chain’s menu of speciality pies on August 24, 2020, in order for consumers to get more enjoyment out of foods that normally don’t hold up well during delivery.
  4. Dominico’s customers will now be able to enjoy the best of both worlds: the delectable flavors of a chicken taco or a cheeseburger on a pizza meant to be delivered, according to the chain’s executive vice president Art D’Elia, who spoke to PR Newswire about the new offering.
  5. The Chicken Taco pizza from Domino’s is still available to order more than a year later, and it’s perfect for times when you want tacos plus pizza for supper.

  1. Despite the fact that the dish received a meager six out of ten stars on Impulsive Buy, It appears that one of the most common complaints about the Chicken Taco pizza from Domino’s is that it lacks the spicy flavor that is often associated with tacos and Mexican cuisine in general.

Review: Domino’s – Chicken Taco Pizza

An American cheese and taco seasoning-topped chicken pizza with onions, green peppers and diced tomatoes is served at Domino’s.Provolone and cheddar cheeses are also available on this pizza. For $11.99, I received a huge Chicken Taco Pizza made with hand-tossed dough.

  1. Aside from a lack of pizza sauce (or any other sauce, for that matter) on the Chicken Taco Pizza, it lacked flavor and had an unmistakable blandness.
  2. Cheese made up for it by providing a lovely, thin layer of gooey-ness between the American cheese, provolone, and cheddar blends.
  3. Surprisingly, I could distinguish the taste of the American cheese from the provolone and cheddar cheeses.
  4. The taco seasoning added a distinctive element to the Chicken Taco Pizza, imparting a flavor that was reminiscent of the taco seasoning you could use for ground beef at home, which is to say it had the trademark dosage of cumin as well as other spices.
  5. It went rather nicely with the chicken and veggies I used it with.
  • The onions, green peppers, and tomatoes were roasted until they were practically mushy, and the flavors were really mild.
  • The chicken was tender and moist enough to satisfy my cravings.
  • In terms of texture, the crust was pretty light and bread-like with a thin, crunchy top and a generous coating of cornmeal beneath it.
  • Overall, the taco seasoning in Domino’s Chicken Taco Pizza provided a chicken taco-like flavor to the pizza, which was unexpected.
  • The absence of pizza sauce is most likely a contributing factor, as the sauce’s stronger flavor would be damaging to the seasoning.
  • 1 slice of Domino’s Chicken Taco Pizza has the following nutritional information: (135g) 350 calories per serving (Calories from Fat – 140) 16 g of fat (Saturated Fat – 8g) Sodium – 780 milligrams Carbohydrates: 34 g (Sugar – 3g) 16 g of protein

Gather the Ingredients

Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures This recipe doesn’t call for a large number of ingredients, and many of them are likely to already be in your kitchen cupboard. All you need is one package of active dry yeast, a little sugar, warm water, and olive oil to make this delicious treat. You’ll also need salt, all-purpose flour, and shredded provolone cheese for this recipe.

  1. ″Yes, shredded provolone is utilized by Domino’s,″ Carli confirms.
  2. ″If you want, you could use shredded mozzarella instead of ricotta.″ For the recipe to be complete, you will only need a few chicken breasts, taco seasoning, Roma tomatoes, a green bell pepper, a yellow onion, and a few slices of American cheese, among other ingredients.
  3. Let’s get this party started!

Preheat and prep

Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures Make sure to preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit before you begin. This step is critical since it will save you time in only a few minutes later.Pour the yeast, sugar, and water into a mixing dish (ideally one that can be used with a stand mixer).

  1. Place it under the mixer and use the paddle attachment to blend the ingredients together.
  2. Allow the mixture to settle for approximately 5 minutes, or until bubbles begin to form.
  3. Add the olive oil, salt, and flour and stir until everything is thoroughly incorporated after that.
  4. Change to the dough hook and knead the dough until it is no longer sticky.
  5. It will take around 8 minutes to complete this task.

Remove dough and continue

Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures Using a spatula, remove the dough from the stand mixer after it has lost its sticky consistency.Place it in a large mixing bowl that has been lightly oiled with a tablespoon of olive oil to prevent sticking.Give the dough a couple of twists with your hands to ensure that it is well covered with olive oil.

  1. Cover the basin with a cover and set it aside for at least two hours, which should be enough time for the dough to double in size and rise.
  2. In the meantime, you may get started on a few other tasks so that you’ll be ready to assemble the pizza when the dough is finished rising.

Cook the chicken

Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures Meanwhile, prepare your favorite cast iron pan by heating it over medium-high heat while the dough is rising.Add approximately a tablespoon of olive oil and, after it’s heated, add the chicken breasts.Cook for about 5 minutes per side.

  1. Cook each side of the chicken for about four minutes on each side to provide a nice sear on both sides.
  2. After that, bake the chicken in the cast iron pan for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure that it is cooked through.
  3. Once it’s out, chop it up and set it away for later.

Turn the oven higher and prep dough

Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures You may increase the oven temperature to 475 degrees Fahrenheit once you have done baking the chicken and letting the dough rise to its full volume.Remove the dough from the refrigerator after it has been sitting for two hours and cut it into two equal pieces — one for each pizza.Spread a dish towel over the top of each piece of meat and set aside for about 15 minutes.

  1. As soon as the 15 minutes are up, roll each into a 12-inch circle and lay it on a baking sheet (or pizza stone) before continuing on to the next stage.

Add the toppings

Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures It’s now time to get down to business!Top each pizza with the chicken taco pizza toppings that are a knockoff of the original. You’ll start with the shredded provolone cheese and then add the diced chicken breast to form the basis of your sandwich.

  1. Once you’ve finished baking the pizzas, top each with a tablespoon of taco spice and toppings such as sliced tomato, diced bell pepper, diced onion, and chopped white American cheese.
  2. The time has come for you to put those pizzas in the oven!

Set the timer and finish

  • Kristen Carli/Mashed Pictures Set your timer for around 12 minutes and place the pizzas in the oven to cook for about 12 minutes. When you take them out of the oven, they should appear as if they were just delivered by Domino’s themselves. Each of the pizzas may be split into a few pieces by using a pizza cutter to make a single pizza. Feel free to top your pizza with crushed red pepper flakes or whatever else you choose. Domino’s just launched the specialty pizzas, and one is better than the other.

The image is courtesy of Domino’s Pizza. When Domino’s announced the addition of new specialty pizzas to its menu earlier this week, it was certainly welcomed news to anybody who had been suffering from pepperoni fatigue as a result of the large number of pizza orders placed during quarantine. The two new menu items, the Chicken Taco and the Cheeseburger, are diametrically opposed to one another.

  1. But which is the superior option?
  2. To discover out, we tried them both.
  3. To summarize, the following is true: On Monday, the pizzas were formally added to the Domino’s permanent menu.
  4. It was noted at the time that tastes were inspired by dishes that don’t normally hold up well in travel when ordered for delivery – the not-so subtly implied argument being that they deliver better as pizzas than other foods.
  5. These pizzas, in contrast to the chain’s more affordable selections, would run you back $11.99 apiece.

The Chicken Taco pizza

When you bite into a slice of Chicken Taco pizza, the first thing you’ll notice is the taco seasoning that Domino’s utilized as a foundation flavor in place of its traditional tomato pizza sauce. With out being overwhelming, the spice immediately alerts your brain that this is no ordinary pizza and that you should be looking for flavors that you would identify with tacos instead of traditional pizza flavors. It’s a nice finishing touch.

  1. Grilled chicken, onions, green peppers, chopped tomatoes, and three types of cheese – American, cheddar, and provolone – are also included on this pizza.
  2. The onions and green peppers, in particular, were overbearing to me, and in various ways.
  3. It was the slightly bitter flavor of the green peppers that stood out as being overpowering in this situation.
  4. The onions, on the other hand, had a mushy texture that detracted from the overall pleasing mouthfeel of each slice.
  5. This was made up for by the excellent combination of the three cheeses and the refreshing acidity of the tomatoes, but it was the chicken that made the dish what it was in the first.
  • It’s soft and tasty, and there’s a good quantity of it in each serving.
  • The only thing it is lacking is a cape.
  • This pizza will remind you like a taco once you take a taste of it and eat it with the taco seasoning on top along with tomatoes, cheese, and chicken.
  • There’s only one thing missing: a little heat.
  • Domino’s taco seasoning, on the other hand, is terribly lacking in heat.
  • And although it’s fair that Domino’s chose green peppers as a topping over, say, any type of fiery pepper (Domino’s aims to satisfy everyone), I couldn’t help but feel let down by the selection.
  1. If you want to order this pizza, I recommend that you leave off the green peppers and substitute jalapenos for them as a customization option.
  2. Alternatively, you may do like I did and drizzle some Cholula Hot Sauce on top of your slices.
  3. So, does the Chicken Taco Pizza have a flavor that is similar to chicken tacos?
  4. No, not at all.
  5. Will it fulfill your taco needs while also preventing you from experiencing the letdown that comes with receiving soggy tacos over the mail or delivery?
  6. If you put your imagination to work.

Is it a delectable piece of pizza?Definitely.

The Cheeseburger pizza

From the time you remove your face mask after your encounter with your Domino’s delivery guy, you’ll be able to smell this delicious pizza. The smell of chargrilled hamburger meat that emanated from this device was very strong. In this case, it was a hint of good things to come, notably the delicious and burger-like ground beef that Domino’s used for this particular pizza.

  1. However, while the meat on this pizza was clearly a standout, it wasn’t the greatest element of the dish.
  2. The ketchup-mustard sauce from Domino’s was the star of the show.
  3. Despite the fact that all of the toppings (beef, chopped tomatoes, onion, American cheese, and provolone cheese) were distinct in their own right, the sweetness of the ketchup and the sharpness of the mustard worked together to produce a cheeseburger-like mix of tastes.
  4. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to be a fan of mustard in general in order to appreciate this pizza because the flavor is present in every bite.
  5. You’ll also need to be a fan of a substantial serving of onions, which I personally could have done without but had to eat in order to enjoy this pizza the way Domino’s meant it to be enjoyed.
  • To cut through the fattiness of the meat and cheese, I would have liked slices of dill pickles on the side, which the chopped tomatoes were unable to do on their own.
  • On the face of it, the omission of pickles on a cheeseburger pizza appears to be a significant oversight.
  • I rectified the situation by draping a sliced sandwich pickle over my second slice, and I can confidently state that, despite the temperature differential, it was a significant improvement.
  • My hope is that everyone will follow in my footsteps.
  • In other words, does the Cheeseburger Pizza have the same flavor as a cheeseburger?
  • Despite the absence of pickles, it gets quite near to the mark.
  1. Will it fulfill your want for a cheeseburger while also saving you from the letdown of a mushy delivery cheeseburger?
  2. Potentially.
  3. After everything is said and done, does it produce a tasty pizza?
  4. Yep.

The verdict

Realistically, none of these pizzas can completely substitute for the items on which they are based in terms of nutritional value.Tacos should be ordered if you desire tacos. If you want a cheeseburger, you should order a cheeseburger, plain and simple. You’re most likely getting these items from a local establishment you trust, so a somewhat moist bread or tortilla is acceptable, unlike what Domino’s would have you believe. We can still appreciate what the business is doing in this area, though.

And, if anything, these pizzas may encourage you to avoid buying your typical pepperoni pizza for the foreseeable future. However, if you must pick between the two, the Chicken Taco Pizza is the better choice. The taco spice, strangely enough, works wonderfully on pizza.Everything about the chicken is delicious and ample.Slices are simple to dress up with a few dashes of spicy sauce, which, now that I think about it, I probably would have done even if the pizza itself was a touch on the hot side to begin with.No matter which one you select (or if you decide to go with both), remember to leave a generous tip for your delivery guy.
