22 Fast Food Restaurants that Accept EBT Near Me

  • What Fast Food Restaurants Accept EBT? To begin, let me explain what EBT and SNAP are and what you need to know about them, as well as what you can and cannot buy with EBT if you are new to this or don’t know much about it. You’re not sure where to use your EBT card since you don’t know where to look. Your EBT card enables you to make purchases at a variety of fast-food establishments for far less than you would otherwise spend. The objective of this page is to provide you with a list of all of the fast-food restaurants and other establishments that accept EBT card payments. Before we begin, you should be familiar with the Restaurant Meals Program, which is explained below. In order to be eligible for the EBT card, you must also be qualified for the RMP program. The RMP allows consumers to use their EBT cards to make purchases at specific establishments that would otherwise not take EBT cards. Let us now turn our attention to EBT. EBT is essentially a system that allows consumers to electronically transfer their government money from a federal account to pay for food and other related things at a variety of retail locations around the country. As of 2004, the EBT has been implemented in all 50 states, indicating that it has been in use throughout the United States for a very long period. Furthermore, it is available in the United States Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Guam, among other places. The EBT system is operated with the use of an EBT card, which functions in a similar fashion to a standard credit or debit card. People can get benefits such as cash assistance and food stamps through the use of the card. The EBT card may also be used to pay for meals at fast-food restaurants, which is what this article is mostly concerned with. SNAP benefits are included in the EBT card’s benefits package. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is just a fancy moniker for the state-funded Food Stamps Program, which is administered by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). With the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the federal government aims to help residents achieve their dietary needs by providing federally sponsored assistance. The procedure of applying for food stamps is dependent on you getting in touch with the organization that administers these programs and submitting your application from there. The agency will also check to confirm that you fulfill all of the eligibility conditions before proceeding with your application further. SNAP benefits are not available to everyone who qualifies for them. Following your approval for the SNAP benefit, you will get your EBT card in a matter of days after your application has been processed. The EBT card is quite similar to a regular debit or credit card in that it allows you to pay for food goods in the same manner that you would pay for them with a regular debit or credit card. Some things may be purchased with an EBT card, while others cannot be purchased with an EBT card. Food is one of the products that is most commonly eligible for food stamps, yet it is also the most expensive. A few foods, however, are not covered by the SNAP program. In the majority of circumstances, EBT is effective for things that may be purchased and then made at home. There are a couple of exceptions to this rule as well, though. It is not possible to purchase hot food that is being prepared at a restaurant and pay with your EBT card, for example. Food stamps can be used to purchase a variety of food goods, including fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, and poultry, cereal and bread, dairy products, household items, seeds, and nuts, among other things. There are a few of items, on the other hand, that do not qualify for food stamp assistance. Beverages such as beer, wine, liquor, tobacco, and cigarettes are among the things on this list, as are paper products such as towels, home supplies, prescriptions and vitamins, freshly cooked foods, food designed to be consumed in a restaurant, soap, and pet supplies. It is possible that some of these prohibited products are both food and non-food goods. You should now be aware of the goods that you may anticipate to purchase at a restaurant. To begin, let’s go over the list in no particular order: McDonald’s is a fast food restaurant that accepts EBT near me. It should come as no surprise that McDonald’s has made this list. McDonald’s, one of the world’s largest fast-food corporations in the foodservice industry, has created and operated over 13,500 locations in the United States alone. When it comes to fast food, it’s also one of the most convenient and hassle-free options available to consumers. Before we get started, it’s important to note that not all McDonald’s outlets offer Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). There are specialized establishments that accept payments made using EBT cards. These establishments are enrolled with the Restaurant Meals Program, which is available in states such as Arizona and California, among others. To be eligible for this program, a person must be at least 65 years old, homeless, or living with a handicap, and they must be a resident of one of the states that provide RMP to its residents. The reason that all McDonald’s stores do not take EBT is that not all states participate in the Restaurant Meals Program, which is why not all McDonald’s locations accept EBT. Even if you place an order for food, the SNAP system will reject it because the food is produced at the restaurant and is theoretically intended to be consumed there. Because of this, it is highly advised that you bring a credit or debit card with you to the location in case you discover that the establishment does not accept EBT participation. Can You Use an EBT Card at Restaurants?

  • As you learned in the preceding section, you are unable to use your food stamps to purchase meals that are hot at the time of purchase. As a result, the vast majority of SNAP beneficiaries will be unable to use their EBT cards to pay for fast food in the future. Because SNAP funds are intended for the purchase of cold items that can be prepared at home, those who are incapacitated or unable to prepare their own meals are left with limited alternatives. Because of this, the Restaurant Meals Program was established. The Restaurant Meals Program is a state-run program that lets SNAP beneficiaries who are elderly, homeless, or disabled to use their SNAP EBT cards to purchase meals at SNAP-authorized eateries. In summary, you can use your EBT at fast-food restaurants that participate in the Restaurant Meals Program if you meet the following criteria: you live in a state that participates in the Restaurant Meals Program
  • you have a valid EBT card
  • you have a valid RMP card
  • you have a valid EBT card

Due to a lack of participation in the RMP, just two fast food chains are currently participating, namely: Subway, Federal Hill Pizza Restaurant, and other similar establishments
  • Subway restaurants and one Federal Hill Pizza Restaurant participate in the EBT program in Rhode Island, with a total of nine locations. States that Have Planned to Launch an RMP

  • In any case, as you can see, there are only three states that have really adopted a Restaurant Meals Program at this point in time.
  • If you are lucky enough to reside in one of those states, congratulations to you and your family.
  • Fortunately, around four other states have expressed interest in implementing an RMP.
  • In some cases, state officials have made statements, and others have even begun encouraging local establishments to participate in the initiative.
  • That is, at some point in the future, SNAP beneficiaries in these states will be allowed to use their SNAP payments to make purchases at fast food restaurants.
  • Here is a list of states that intend to implement an RMP…

Michigan

  • Michigan declared that it would start a Restaurant Meals Program in December 2020, with the program set to begin in January 2020.
  • ″No Michigander should have to worry about how to put food on the table for themselves and their family, especially during a pandemic,″ Governor Gretchen Whitmer said at the time.
  • This collaboration with our restaurants will ensure that individuals all around the state receive the assistance they require this winter.
  • This initiative would not be possible without the cooperation of the restaurants that participate in it, and I will continue to work around the clock to guarantee that every family receives assistance.″
  • Although the Restaurant Meals Program has been implemented in other states, it has not yet been implemented in Michigan.
  • As a result, at this time, there is no list of participating establishments to be found.
  • In the future, however, you may be able to use your EBT card at participating fast food establishments in Michigan.
  • According to the state’s official website, a list of participating establishments in the Restaurant Meal Program in Michigan will be available soon.
  • Please return to this page for any changes.

Illinois

  • According to the state’s official website, Illinois has chosen to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) restaurant meal program beginning in the late summer of 2021.
  • The RMP will allow qualified SNAP families in the state to use their SNAP benefits to purchase hot meals at participating restaurants through the use of their SNAP benefits.
  • According to the website, establishments that are located in Dewitt County or Cook County and have one of the following zip codes: 60619, 60620, 60628 or 60617 are eligible to apply to participate in the SNAP Restaurant Meals Program.
  • Illinois will roll out the program in phases to different parts of the state over a period of time.
  • As a result, there is no list of restaurants available on the website at this time.
  • However, it is possible that you will be allowed to use your EBT card at fast food restaurants in Illinois in the future.

Maryland

  • The Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) is experimenting with the RMP in a few counties around the state.
  • According to the state’s official website, other jurisdictions will be added when the program grows to other jurisdictions within the state.
  • The Department of Homeland Security is actively recruiting restaurants to participate in the RMP at the present time.
  • More information regarding the RMP in Maryland may be found on the webpage referred to above.

Hawaii

There are little specifics available on the putative RMP program in Hawaii. I did, however, come up a reference to it from the state of Hawaii’s government in a PDF, which you may view here for further information. This signals that Hawaii may be considering implementing an RMP in the near future.

New York

  • Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, signed legislation in October 2021 to assist SNAP participants who are homeless, handicapped, or elderly in purchasing ready-to-eat meals.
  • The establishment of a statewide Restaurant Meals Program is accomplished by this act.
  • ″It is outrageous that in a state as rich as New York, many citizens yet struggle to provide adequate food for their families,″ Governor Hochul stated at the time.
  • The critical efforts we’re taking—establishing two restaurant programs to assist the most vulnerable New Yorkers in feeding themselves while also assisting eateries in recovering from this horrible pandemic—will work in concert to put food on the tables of families across New York.
  • A large number of New Yorkers’ wallets and homes are still being impacted by this pandemic, and we’re taking any and all steps we can to assist them in providing for themselves and their loved ones.″

The program is presently accepting applications from fast food establishments in the New York metropolitan area. It is possible that you may be able to use your EBT card to purchase hot and prepared meals at fast food restaurants after the program has been completely implemented.

How to Use Your EBT Card at Fast Food Restaurants in States that Don’t Have an RMP

  • So, what happens if your state does not have a Restaurant Meal Program in place?
  • You have a very restricted range of possibilities in this situation.
  • As I previously stated, SNAP funds are intended to assist individuals in need in purchasing goods from the grocery store that may then be cooked at their residence.
  • It is not intended for things that are in high demand at the time of purchase.
  • This can be quite restrictive.
  • There are just two locations that take EBT in the entire state.

Starbucks

  • Starbucks does not accept EBT cards at any of its company-owned locations, so you won’t have any luck trying to get your money there. Starbucks, on the other hand, does take EBT at certain of its licensed locations, which are often found in grocery shops and retail stores. Fortunately, there are more than 6,300 Starbucks locations in the United States that are officially licensed. Yup! So there are a plethora of sites where you may be able to utilize your food stamps in the near future. Your food stamps may be accepted at Starbucks locations within stores such as Safeway, Fred Meyer, Target, and other supermarket chains that take food stamps
  • however, this is not guaranteed.
  • If you want to purchase SNAP-eligible products, you can do so using your EBT card. As previously stated, food stamps cannot be used to purchase hot meals or beverages. You may, however, use your food stamps at Starbucks to purchase iced beverages and light snacks. Here are some examples of items you might be able to purchase with your EBT card at Starbucks-affiliated stores: Instant coffee, creamer, coffee beans, ground coffee, pumpkin bread, cold beverages, sandwiches, soft drinks, sweets, energy drinks, and snacks are all available.

Generally speaking, everything that has a nutritional label on it, with the exception of hot meals and beverages, is eligible for EBT. Simply avoid items that are still hot at the time of purchase.

Papa Murphy’s

  • Okay, so Papa Murphy’s is yet another fast-food establishment that accepts EBT.
  • When it comes to accepting EBT cards as a means of payment in-store, the majority of the company’s independently owned franchisees are set up to do so.
  • However, you will not be able to utilize your EBT for online transactions.
  • It is classified SNAP-eligible since you must take Papa Murphy’s pizzas home and bake them yourself, thus the food you purchase there is considered SNAP-eligible.

Restaurants that DON’T Accept EBT

  • Okay, there are a number of eateries that do accept EBT, especially in states that have an RMP, which is understandable given the situation. Some restaurants, however, do not accept food stamps. The following is a list of fast-food businesses that do not accept EBT, even in states that participate in the Restaurant Meals Program: Restaurants such as A&W, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Cinnabon, Dairy Queen, Dunkin’ Donuts, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Five Guys, Hardee’s, In-N-Out Burger, Krispy Kreme (except for licensed stores), Long John Silver’s, McDonald’s, Panda Express, Panera Bread, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Shake Shack, and Starbucks (except for licensed stores).

Takeaway

  • To use your EBT card at a fast food restaurant near you, you must either reside in a state that has an RMP and qualify for it, or go to a local Starbucks or Papa Murphy’s to get your fill of caffeine.
  • You might also try purchasing just goods that are cold.
  • Some Subway locations, for example, take EBT on cold items, which is convenient.
  • The rest of the time, you won’t have much success.
  • In order to be eligible for RMP benefits, you must reside in a state where the program is offered and fulfill the eligibility requirements.
  • Fortunately, more states are implementing an RMP, which should result in an increase in the number of fast food establishments that accept EBT in your area, allowing more individuals to have access to hot meals.

37 Pizza Places That Take EBT (+ Restaurant Meals Program Explained)

  • In most cases, with the exception of Papa Murphy’s take-and-bake pizzas, you may only use EBT at pizza restaurants if you live in a state that has a Restaurant Meals Program (RMP) and you qualify for that program.
  • Domino’s, Hungry Howie’s, Papa John’s, and Pizza Hut are just a few of the pizza restaurants that engage in RMPs in specific states.
  • More information may be found in the section below.

EBT Restaurant Threshold

  • You may still be able to purchase restaurant-style meals with your EBT card if you do not meet the requirements for an RMP.
  • This is because certain businesses may not meet the ″restaurant threshold.″ According to the USDA, a ″restaurant″ is defined as any establishment that generates more than 50% of its total sales from food that is prepared/heated on-site for customers to consume on-site or take away as takeout.
  • If the bulk of a merchant’s sales are made up of food that the consumer must take home and prepare themselves, the store falls under the ″restaurant threshold″ and may be eligible to participate in the SNAP food assistance program.
  • For take-and-bake pizza businesses, the USDA Food and Nutrition Service will accept EBT cards if they provide sales paperwork to the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to demonstrate that they do not exceed the restaurant level.

The List

  • EBT is accepted at the following pizza establishments, either because they are below the restaurant threshold or because they participate in a Restaurant Meals Program.
  • We double-checked this information with customer service staff and the RMP restaurant rosters for each state in question.
  • Our list is arranged in descending order from the greatest to the least number of EBT-approved locations.
  • Note: While our list shows the states in which each restaurant is qualified, please keep in mind that Illinois, Maryland, and Michigan do not currently publish listings of RMP restaurants that are participating in their respective states.
  • More information about purchasing restaurant meals with EBT in those states may be obtained by contacting your state’s benefits administration office.
