Dairy Queen’s Ice Cream Pizza Pies Are Back, So It’s Basically The ’90s Again

Pay attention, ’90s babies.Time to splurge on a dessert that used to be popular during our childhood, since it has returned and is better than ever.In this case, I’m talking about Dairy Queen’s notorious ″Treatzza Pizza,″ which is an ice cream pizza pie that has been adorned with chocolate drizzling, chocolate candies, and soft serve.

  • We can safely say that it is the sweetest pizza pie we have ever eaten, and it is finally back on the DQ menu.
  • According to Cosmopolitan, the first versions of the chocolaty pizza pies were on the menu in 1995 and stayed on the menu until 2008, when they were discontinued.
  • The Treatzza Pizzas from the 1970s looked like this: According to what you can see on the picture, the ″cool treat″ used to consist of fudge, chocolate crunch, soft serve, and a choice of four different toppings.
  • It appears to be delectable, doesn’t it?
  • Following the re-release of the pizzas at Dairy Queen outlets on May 22, many more delectable varieties became available.
  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, M&M’s, Choco’ Brownie, and Heath are among the new flavors available.

Take another look and try not to become too sentimental about things.According to reports on Twitter, people are really enthusiastic about the return of the Treatzza Pizza, and we can’t say that we blame them.

″This is not a drill.″

Must. Eat. Now.

They can hardly contain their excitement.

As you can see, Treatzza Pizzas are somewhat of a celebrity in their own right. If you’re wondering how the magnificent pizza pie is created, don’t be concerned. Its components have been deconstructed by The Daily Meal, and we can now understand what made our favorite childhood treat so freaking appealing.

  • An official Treatzza Pizza recipe claims that the crust is constructed from fudge cookie crunch that has been topped with vanilla soft serve.
  • Next, depending on which flavor you choose (I prefer the Heath), a layer of candy toppings is applied to the pizza.
  • The Misty Slush has joined the Treatzza Pizza on Dairy Queen’s menu, which joins the Treatzza Pizza as another tribute to the 1950s.
  • In an interview with The Daily Meal, Barry Westrum, senior vice president of marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation, stated, ″There is an undeniable comeback in everything ’90s, and both Treatzza Pizza and Misty Slush were fan favorites from that time period.″ Those two delights were a hit with fans right from the start.
  • They requested us to bring them back, and we gladly obliged their request.
  • As a child of the 1990s, I wholeheartedly support DQ’s decision to bring back the frozen desserts that we grew up with.

Thank you very much, Dairy Queen. You did an excellent job.Citations: OMG, Dairy Queen Brought Back Its Ice Cream Pizza (The Daily Meal), Dairy Queen Brings Back Two Fan Favorites from the ’90s (The Daily Meal), Dairy Queen Brought Back Its Ice Cream Pizza (The Daily Meal) (Cosmopolitan)

REVIEW: Dairy Queen M&M’s Treatzza Pizza

  1. Dairy Queen’s Treatzza Pizza, which debuted in the mid-1990s, was one of those decades-defining consumer experiences – a la the Reebok Pump sneakers and the Nickelodeon Time Blaster Alarm Clock – that seemed to be experienced by everyone but me back in the day.
  2. They did an excellent job of showing why the $6.99 delicacy was more than a fast food novelty — it was actually advertised as edible pop culture and digestible detritus in the television advertisements.
  3. Having missed out on this was comparable to losing out on Yikes!
  4. pencils and Pop-Qwiz popcorn — it was completely inexcusable.
  5. Because I had never tasted the Treatzza when I was younger, I believed I would never find out if it lived up to all of the hype.
  6. As a result, I was overjoyed when I learned that the long-discontinued product would be returning.
  1. Even today, I’m not sure how long the Treatzza (which was available in four different varieties – more on that in a moment) was on the market for purchase.
  2. Despite the fact that some sites claim the product was still available as late as 2008, I don’t recall seeing it on the shelves in my neck of the woods for at least the past decade.
  3. While I cannot comment on how the relaunched Treatzza compares to the original in terms of flavor, it certainly passes the visual test — this item appears to have miraculously emerged from a 1995 sales circular advertisement.
  4. The Treatzza is available in four variations, just as it was in the olden days: one topped with Heath bar chunks, one topped with Reese’s cups, a ″Choco-Brownie,″ and – my personal favorite – one sprinkled with diced M&M’s.

The ice cream in the featured version features a fudge cookie crunch foundation, vanilla soft serve as the ″sauce,″ and is finished with a thin layer of dark chocolate drizzle.Due to the fact that the pie is divided into eight reasonably uniform slices, it can easily be shared between two people or used to make fast snacks for at least four people.Naturally, the veil of nostalgia might cloud my judgment, but regardless of its nostalgic allure, this thing is a treat to see. We’ve all had brownies with ice cream on top before, but the Treatzza is a completely new sort of treat altogether. The cookie, the ice cream, the fudge, and the M&M’s all come together to form a wonderful singularity.

  • Although it appears to be nothing more than an open-faced ice cream sandwich on the surface, the combination of all the components gels into a wonderful, congealed symphony.
  • It’s delicious, it’s satisfying, and I swear eating it instantly took my taste senses back to the DQ of my childhood, around the opening night of Batman Forever, to which I was transported.
  • The fact that it’s nothing more than a large frozen cookie with a whole M&M’s Blizzard strewn across the top is what I think makes it so gorgeous.
  • Given the $10 price point and (probably) minimal customer demand – not to mention the fact that it takes up a lot of room in the freezer – there’s no chance this product will be available for more than a few months.
  • All I can advise is to take advantage of the situation while you still have the opportunity – unless you want to wait until 2037 to have a second shot.
  • (1) Nutrition Facts: One slice has 200 calories, 80 of which are derived from fat, 9 grams of fat, 7 grams of saturated fat, 0 grams of trans fat, 5 milligrams of cholesterol, 85 milligrams of sodium, 28 grams of carbs, 1 gram of dietary fiber, 20 grams of sugar, and 3 grams of protein.
  • Purchased at a cost of $9.99 N/A in terms of size Rating: 9 out of 10 Convenience: The absolutely phat crunched up M&M’s taste both boss and fly on the tongue.
  • The vanilla ice cream is both of those things, plus a bag of chips.
  • You and seven of your homeboys can share a pie while listening to a cassette recording of ″Gangsta’s Paradise″ on repeat in the parking lot for an hour and fifteen minutes.

The downside is that the $10 price tag is inflationary. Some consumers may find the cookie crust to be a little too difficult to chew for their tastes. Was wondering if or not this will move us one step closer to the resurrected Dunkaroos and/or the return of Hootie and the Blowfish.

  1. Because the Treatzza Pizza was made available on May 22nd, a bunch of DQ fans have already gotten their hands on one, and they’ve been posting images of the delectable treat to Instagram.
  2. The Misty Slush, on the other hand, is not a real meal, but rather a frozen beverage similar to a 7-Eleven Slurpee.
  3. It is available in five different flavors: cherry, blue raspberry, grape, strawberry-kiwi, and lemon-lime, to name a few.
  4. It’s difficult to predict how well the flavors of the Misty Slush will compliment the flavors of the Treatzza, but finding out will undoubtedly be a pleasant experience.

On June 26, the Misty Slush will make a comeback at participating Dairy Queen stores. As Barry Westrum, senior vice president of marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation said in a statement acquired by The Daily Meal, ″there is an evident comeback in everything from the 1990s, and both Treatzza Pizza and Misty Slush were fan favorites from that era.″ ″Those two goodies were a huge hit with fans right from the start.″They requested us to bring them back, and we gladly obliged them.″

I didn’t know I, sort of, missed you Treatzza Pizza?

  3. $14.00 is the cost (tax incl) Dairy Queen is the location.
  4. If you’re not acquainted with Treatzza Pizza, it’s a Dairy Queen dessert that’s shaped like a pizza, to be precise.
  5. It features an 8-inch-diameter thin cookie foundation with soft serve on top, sort of like cheese, and then toppings such as brownies, Smarties, Reese’s peanut butter cups, or Skor bars are placed on top of the soft serve.

  1. I dimly recall having had this dish in the mid-nineties, but I had completely forgotten about it.
  2. Previously unknown to me, Treatzza Pizza was removed off the market in 2008 and then reintroduced by Dairy Queen the following year.

  4. According to this story published on May 24, 2017 by The Daily Meal, Treatzza Pizza and Misty Slush were fan favorites from the 1990s, according to Barry Westrum, executive vice president of marketing for American Dairy Queen Corporation.

″There is an obvious resurgence in everything ’90s, and both Treatzza Pizza and Misty Slush were fan favorites from that era,″ Westrum said in a statement.″Those two goodies were a huge hit with fans right from the start.″They requested us to bring them back, and we gladly obliged them.″ According to this blog article from Elite Daily, there has even been internet speculation regarding the reintroduction of Treatzza Pizza. The return of Dairy Queen’s ice cream ″Treatzza Pizzas″ is confirmed by Elite Daily on May 31, 2017.I normally try to keep up with ice cream news (seriously), but this one got by me, and it wasn’t until a year and a half later that I discovered Treatzza Pizzas when browsing at the ice cream cakes that I realized what had happened.

  • Furthermore, I’d forgotten how pricey ice cream cakes might be, which led to the decision to order the Treatzza Pizza instead.
  • It’s a strange dish when you think about it; it’s more like a huge, flat cookie created with a crumb foundation and topped with some ice cream and toppings, rather than a traditional pie.
  • There are no pie crusts or cakes in it, so it’s best eaten with a fork rather than cut into slices.
  • Although there isn’t enough ice cream to need the use of a spoon, the ice cream is nonetheless susceptible to melting.
  • I get the impression that it’s composed with leftovers, stuff that were already in the DQ kitchen that were recycled.
  • Which, when you stop to think about it, is actually rather clever.
  • In terms of flavor, it’s more like a cookie or cake treat than an ice cream dish.
  • The Choco Brownie flavor is exactly what it sounds like: brownies topped with ice cream.
  • Chocolate soft serve ice cream is served with the brownies, which is nice; it’s nothing spectacular, but it is enough.

The quantities are a nice size, filling enough to feel like you’ve had a treat but not so enormous that you feel like you’ve overindulged. As a whole, it’s a tasty dessert and an excellent choice for a group event, particularly if you don’t want to spend $30 on an ice cream cake.Is it a delectable sweet treat? No.

Is it clear to you why so many people missed it?No.However, I enjoy many kinds of ice cream desserts, so I’m glad it’s back in business.I didn’t realize how much I missed you, Treatzza Pizza, until recently.

Frozen Ice Cream Dessert Pizza (Treatzza Pizza Copycat!)

  • It’s the perfect no-bake summer treat, and this Frozen Ice Cream Dessert Pizza is it! Featuring an Oreo fudge crust and topped with ice cream, fudge sauce, and M&M’s, this Dairy Queen copycat Treatzza Pizza is a must-try! PIN IT TO REFER TO LATER I used to really enjoy those Treatzza Pizzas from Dairy Queen when I was a kid. However, when I was writing this essay, I began to wonder if any of my American friends had ever heard of Treatzza Pizzas. I attempted to search the DQ web sites in both Canada and the United States, but I was unsuccessful on the American website. What a pity it would be if you had to go through life without having your Treatzza Pizza fix! Fortunately, I’ve come up with a Treatzza Pizza recipe that is a close replica. I’m still horrible at naming recipes, and I’ll admit it. If there are any individuals out there who are unfamiliar with what a Treatzza Pizza is, it is a Frozen Ice Cream Dessert Pizza, which is essentially everything wonderful and frosty that you could possibly desire. Let’s get this over with. You are aware of my fondness for pizza. Dessert pizza is also a favorite of mine (have you tried this Nutella Brownie Fruit Pizza?!). The preparation of this dish is really straightforward. It requires no baking at all
  • the crust is simply crushed Oreos and fudge sauce, and the topping is softened ice cream topped with anything you choose. Using M&M’s, or Peanut Butter Cups, or berries, or anything you like — just make sure it’s not too difficult to eat frozen! If you’re using anything that’s really firm, you’ll want to slice them up so that they’re more manageable bite-size pieces. The following are some of my favorite things: There will be no baking (did I say that? )
  • It is completely configurable.
  • Preparation takes no more than 20 minutes and only 4 components.
  • You can use store-bought ice cream, or you can experiment with any of the ice cream recipes I’ve posted on The Recipe Rebel, such as these: Cookie ‘n’ Cream Ice Cream with Nutella Swirl, Cherry Cheesecake Ice Cream with Nutella Swirl Ice Cream with Coconut Cream Pie. Toss and match as you choose to create your own unique look! Alternatively, prepare a large number of crusts and decorate them with a choice of toppings — these would be ideal for a summer party or barbeque! About 1 300g packet of Oreos
  • 1/2 cup thick hot fudge sauce plus 2 tablespoons
  • 2-3 cups vanilla ice cream or another flavor
  • 2/3 cup M&M’s finely diced
  • Process the Oreos in a food processor until there are no bits left. 12 cup hot fudge sauce should be added and processed until it comes together, almost like a dough should be formed.
  • Placing the Oreo mixture into a 12′′ pizza pan (which may be coated with wax paper if preferred) and freezing for 30 minutes
  • To make the ice cream, place it in a bowl and set it out on the counter for 10 minutes, or until it is somewhat soft and barely spreadable. Take the crust out of the freezer and put it on top of the ice cream
  • Add the remaining hot fudge and sprinkle with M&M’s to finish it off. Freeze until the mixture is solid. Serve soon after removing from freezer since the ice cream layer is thin and will melt more quickly if left out for a long period of time.
  1. Ice cream made with cream will be exceptionally tasty, but it will melt more rapidly if you use a high-quality cream foundation.
  2. The amount of water in an ice cream determines how quickly it will melt.
  3. In order to save time when serving the pizza, you may use a ″ice milk″ (similar to generic ice cream) or just freeze the pizza before cutting it into pieces and storing it in the freezer until ready to serve so that the slices are ready to grab when needed.
