I received these Pizza Hut Pie Tops (size 12) as part of some promotional work I did for Pizza Hut.

I traveled to Pittsburgh to conduct an interview with DeAngelo Williams, a former Pittsburgh Steelers running back (and former Pizza Hut delivery driver).
I received the Pie Tops from Pizza Hut after I finished filming the video and returned home to Omaha.
Upon getting them, my daughter and I immediately connected to the internet and placed an order for a pizza using the pie tops and the related Pizza Hut Pie Tops app.
And it truly WAS a success!
Except for the first day, when I wore them about the home, I never took them off.
They were interesting to look at, but I never used them to place another pizza order.

I placed them back in the box they arrived in and put them in storage for a while.
I recently discovered that they were being collected by Sneakerheads.
They are for sale since I am no longer utilizing them and no longer require them.
Hopefully, they are noticed and appreciated.

Review of 10 Frozen and Pre-made Pie Crusts, the Best and the Worst

Do you eat pie on a regular basis?
Yes, I do.
Pie is one of my favorite desserts.
Pie is one of my favorite foods.
A delicious handmade pie crust is something I particularly like.
Rather of buying store-bought pie crust, I’ve spent years pushing folks to create their own from scratch (and even have the world’s most fool-proof pie crust recipe with video right here on the site).

Having said that, I’ve discovered throughout the years that the majority of home chefs will utilize a store-bought frozen or refrigerated pie crust while making their pies from scratch.
I get what you’re saying.
We are a harried bunch of folks.
We’re craving pie.
We would want to prepare a pie in one hour rather than two hours.

With that in mind, I set out to evaluate numerous boxed pie crusts that I could locate in my area to determine which ones I would personally use and suggest, and which ones people should simply avoid using.
In the next section, I’ll go through my thoughts on ten various frozen or packaged pie crusts that I purchased in local grocers in Sacramento.
The majority are well-known brands that are widely available across the country.

All but one of the ten crusts are from the same brand, which I chose for the range of crust kinds it provided, including gluten-free and whole wheat.

Types of Crusts Reviewed

Some crusts are frozen in an aluminum tin, some are frozen or refrigerated folded up in a box, and one crust is frozen, rolled out, and flat. There are several types of crusts available.

Ingredients and Weight

I’ve included a list of the components for the crusts, which I compiled from the information on the packaging. Fillers, preservatives, and food colors are used in a number of well-known brand-name boxed crusts. For each product, I’ve provided the weight of a single crust as a reference. When compared to that, one of my handmade pie crusts weights between 11.6 and 12 ounces.

Method

I shaped the pie doughs that had been wrapped up in a box or rolled out in a box onto 9-inch Pyrex baking plates using a rolling pin.
First, I pre-baked all of the pie crusts according to the pre-baking instructions on their different packages in order to check how they would hold up to the blind baking process as well as how they would taste on their own, without pie filling.
According to my opinion, a pie crust should be delicious!
It shouldn’t merely serve as a vessel for the filling, though.
All of these crusts were evaluated first and foremost on their flavor.
Was the crust a little crumbly?

Buttery?
Did it have a pleasant flavor?
Whether or whether I wanted to continue eating it despite the fact that I had been eating crusts all day was a question.
I baked a handmade butter crust to see how it stacked up against them.
How well did they stack up against one another?

I selected three of the prepared crusts to go through another round of testing by filling them with our pumpkin pie filling and baking them into a pumpkin pie.
The crusts were evaluated based on their structural integrity.
Is it safe to say that they held up nicely with the pumpkin pie filling?

Conclusion

What were the outcomes?
There are a few crusts that I would be pleased to use and suggest, but none of them compare to my handmade crust in terms of taste.
Crust quality varies from one crust to the next, and there are those that should be avoided entirely.

1. Wholly Wholesome Organic Traditional

Notes on the taste: Good flavor, just the perfect quantity of salt and sugar, supple and flaky, may be eaten for a long time.
Notes on the structure: It did not fracture or shatter throughout the pre-baking process.
It held up beautifully when cooked with a pumpkin pie filling in the middle.
There will be no mushy crust.
The deep dish pie crust does not hold as much filling as my handmade pie crust, so I ended up with approximately a cup of excess filling when I made a pumpkin pie with it.
I will definitely use this crust again.

Conclusion: HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE.
This pie crust would be perfect for me.
The flavor is pleasant.
I couldn’t stop myself from nibbling on the crusts I had blind cooked for this experiment.
In both the blind-baking and the baking with a pie, the crust performs admirably.

A quiche or a sweet pie made with this filling would be excellent choices.

2. Trader Joe’s Pie Crust

My pals all said that the Trader Joe’s pie crust was the best one they had ever had. Almost as much dough as one of my handmade pie crusts is in this pie. The only drawback is that it is difficult to unroll. Trader Joe’s sells a bundle of two for $3.99, which is 11 ounces each.
It is delivered coiled and frozen
Rice flour, palm oil (with citric acid to keep it fresh), water, butter, sugar and salt
Enriched flour

When tested on its own after blind baking, the crust is flaky and buttery, and it is very near to the flavor and texture of handmade crust.
When combined with pumpkin pie filling, it holds up nicely.
Notes on the structure: I followed the instructions to thaw the meat overnight in the refrigerator before letting it stand for 45 minutes at room temperature.
When I tried to unroll it, it completely fell apart, and there was no way to stitch it back together.
To achieve this, I grabbed the dough in my palms and squished them together until they formed a firm disk.
Then I laid out the disk between two pieces of parchment-like paper that had been used to wrap the pie crust when it was wrapped up.

I put it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before putting it in a pie pan and baking it blind.
In order to bake using the second crust from the package, I had to let it thaw on the counter for 4 hours before I started baking.
After that, I gently unrolled it.
There was still breaking, but I was able to use the warmth of my hands to fuse the cracks together as soon as I saw them.
If I were to use it again, I would let it get to room temperature for a couple of hours first, and then microwave it for 10 seconds to make it simpler to unroll after that.

After pricking the bottom and sides with a fork, I baked it blind according to the package guidelines, which I followed exactly.
I did not use pie weights in this recipe.
If I were to blind bake this crust again, I would pierce the bottom and sides with the tines of a fork as well as use pie weights to prevent the sides of the pie crust from collapsing during the baking process.

Conclusion: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED WITH A CAUTION.
When you consider that the Trader Joe’s Pie crust costs $3.99 for two 11-ounce pie crusts, it is certainly the best value for the money.
