    What is Unagi Sushi?

    1. A form of Maki sushi (rolled sushi) produced by wrapping items in nori seaweed sheet and seasoned rice, Unagi Sushi is a specialty of the Japanese cuisine.
    2. Unagi, also known as freshwater eel, is the primary component, and it is renowned for its robust, rich, naturally sweet flavor and soft texture.
    3. The component is widely used in a variety of Japanese recipes.
    4. For this dish, I turned it into an inside-out roll, with the rice on the exterior and the nori on the inside, which served to wrap the contents.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    • Unagi: Traditional unagi sushi consists of grilled BBQ unagi (eel), a cooked fish seasoned with teriyaki sauce or unagi sauce, and is served with wasabi mayonnaise on the side.
    • It may be found in the freezer area of local Japanese grocery shops, or you can get canned unagi from Amazon if you live in the United States.
    • Cucumber or Avocado: You can garnish your roll with cucumber strips or avocado slices. I also used some green onions for flavoring purposes.
    • Japanese short-grain rice is the ideal choice for sushi rice since it yields the greatest results.
    • Sushi Vinegar: This vinegar is used to season the rice and to enhance the flavor of the meal. If you don’t have sushi vinegar, you may make a substitute by mixing rice vinegar, sugar, and salt together.
    • Nori Seaweed Sheets: Look for seaweed sheets that are black in color with a subtle green tint to them.
    • This sauce is optional, but it will elevate your unagi roll to a new level of deliciousness. Purchase it at a Japanese grocery store or do an online purchase
    • Sesame Seeds: You can use either black or white sesame seeds, or a mix of white and black sesame seeds, in this recipe. For the best taste and scent, I recommend toasting them in a frying pan for 5 minutes. This will give your rolls a beautiful nutty flavor and perfume.
