    Home of the Bar Pie

Many people claim to have developed the bar pie, but only one pizzeria has the legal right to do so.When Eddie’s Pizza in New Hyde Park, New York, submitted a trademark application in 1992 for the slogan ″Home of the Bar Pie,″ the United States Patent and Registration Office granted the trademark. The DiVittorio family, which includes father Nick and son Joseph, recently purchased the business and decided it would be smart to safeguard the language that had been used to describe the thin crust pizzas that their restaurant has been serving since the early 1940s.After learning that a nearby pizzeria called Emilio’s was using the term ″thin crust pizza″ to refer to their thin crust pizzas in 2003, the DiVittorios decided to use the trademark to protect their brand.Emilio’s first complied with their cease-and-desist letter, however the company later broke the law by using the term on marketing materials once more in 2011.This time, the cease-and-desist letters were disregarded, and the staff at Eddie’s was compelled to take the matter to federal court to resolve the situation.

After a lengthy legal battle, the two companies achieved an agreement in November 2012 that established Eddie’s as the only restaurant legally permitted to use the term ″bar pie.″ An apology letter from Emilio Branchinelli, the owner of Emilio’s, was included in the settlement since Branchinelli had described Eddie’s as a ″dump″ in a 2012 Daily News article.Restaurants and bars frequently refer to pizza as ″bar pizza″ or ″bar-style pizza″ in order to avoid infringing on the trademark of the same name. You can construct a pizza that looks just like this; just don’t call it a ″bar pie.″

Notable Bar Pizza Establishments (alphabetical order)

Colony Grill (established in 1935, first serving pizza in 1945) — Stamford, CT Despite the fact that this famous drinking establishment debuted in an Irish area, Italian chefs prepared pizzas that were small enough to fit on the narrow bar. They were created to be eaten with one hand, allowing the other to be free to hold a drink while eating.Colony is well-known for its hot oil topping, which is created with Serrano chiles and goes perfectly with their house-made sausage.Eddie’s Pizza (established in 1941) is located in New Hyde Park, New York.Since the early 1930s, this Long Island institution has been serving cracker-thin pizzas to hungry customers. They advertise on their menu that an entire bar pie contains just 270 calories – almost the same as a single New York slice!

Eddie’s holds the trademark on the word ″bar pie,″ and the company is aggressive in its efforts to preserve it.The Lynwood Cafe (established in 1949) is located in Randolph, Massachusetts. This family-owned restaurant, which has been providing bar pizzas since 1949, is legendary among the locals. The Bean Special, a pie covered with Boston baked beans, onion, and bits of salami, is one of the restaurant’s most popular items.Margot’s Pizza (established in 2014) is located in Brooklyn, New York. It’s now running as a ticketed pop-up during the off-hours of a popular Brooklyn restaurant named Emily, which is owned by Slice Pizza Blog creator Adam Kuban.

How Well Do You Know These 4 Kinds of Pizza?

Sure, you’re familiar with Chicago-style pizza, but what about bar pizza? What is it about Detroit pizza that makes it so special? Get to know the newest pies in town.

    Detroit Style

This rectangular pie is distinguished by the streaks of sauce that run across the top and the lovely edge of almost-caramelized cheese that borders the edge. The crust is substantial but not heavy, and the toppings are frequently nestled beneath the cheese. As the style has evolved (see, for example, Brown Dog Pizza in Telluride, CO), toppings have risen above the cheese and have become more elaborate (fig preserves?!).

    Neo-Neapolitan

Authentic wood-fired pizza oven Neapolitan pizza has been the most talked-about pizza tale of the decade. Now, restaurants such as Lovely’s Fifty Fifty in Portland, Oregon, are defying the ultra-Italian ingredient list in order to stay local, and Brooklyn’s Paulie Gee’s is opposing Neapolitan simplicity with toppings like as pickled grapes and Gouda cheese, which are available at Paulie Gee’s.

    Grandma Style

This pie is a near relative of the more well-known Sicilian pie (and a relative of the Detroit). It’s prepared in the same way as Sicilian, in black rectangular pans, but the mozzarella is thinner (as a result of a shorter proofing period), and the sauce is placed on top of the mozzarella. The olive oil that coats the pan helps to create a golden crisp-chewy coating on both.

    Bar Pizza

Although not all pizzas served in bars are considered ″bar pizza,″ some are (like at Austin’s Via 313 Pizzeria) and may be found outside of bars. So, what exactly is it?Cooked in a skillet until evenly crisp and liberally topped with no-frills combinations that harken back to the pre-gourmet pizza period.Adam Kuban is the founder of the Slice blog and the owner of the Margot’s bar pizza pop-up sensation.

    What is Bar Pizza?

This is unlike any other pizza you’ve ever tasted before, and it’s made in-house.Several little pizza ″cafes″ are located across this region of Massachusetts. What distinguishes them is as follows. The first thing to note is that these pizzas are baked on a well-seasoned 10′′ pan, such as this one.A crushed tomato sauce is sandwiched between a flaky buttery crust that has been pushed all the way to the edges. You’re in for a world of bliss when you top your burger with cheddar cheese and everything else you want (such french fries, buffalo chicken, pickles, or mozzarella sticks).

A cool beer and a slice of bar pizza go together like peanut butter and jelly.Although the crust is not chewy or too thick, it is different from the conventional New York style pizza dough. The oil and butter in the bar pizza dough give it a slightly crispy texture that makes it extremely irresistible.Take-out pizzas from these pubs are often delivered in a brown bag with thick fiberm molded paper plates. The interiors of these bars usually feature some type of wood paneling, and most haven’t been changed since the 1970s.In fact, it’s difficult to find anything even somewhat similar to this kind of pizza anyplace else in the world save the South Shore or Massachusetts.

    World Famous Bar Pizza

One may find a variety of bigger and more well-known enterprises in the region like the Cape Cod Cafe, Lynwood Cafe, Town Spa, Poopsies, and Venus.Their taste profiles, crust textures, and cheese blends are all slightly distinct from one another. However, they are all the same size, 10 inches. There is usually a lot of discussion over who is the best.In their own way, they’re all admirable. When it comes to choosing a favorite, a lot of it comes down to memories and consistency of performance.

For more than 40 years, these establishments have been serving the exact same pie recipe.

    What is bar pizza?

    • It’s a good question, and there are as many possible solutions to it as there are pizza restaurants. To put it another way, it’s rather fluid. Although the South Shore of Massachusetts may have the most concentration of this type than any other place in the country, it is a genre that can be found in other states as well, but in a somewhat different form. Most bar or tavern pies that I’m familiar with and enjoy are, in my opinion, the following: thin crusted
    • filled with a light filling
    • and filled with a light filling.
    • Crisp to the extreme
    • Well-done, but not to the point of being a total failure
    • Although large enough to accommodate two people, it is also tiny enough to accommodate one person.

But that’s just the way the bar pizza is made physically. This kind of pizza also has a strong sense of community and spirituality about it.The greatest bar pizza joints are renowned meeting places that bring people of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds together.Weekends were spent at these pizzerias with our family and friends, which is where we grew up going. These are the locations your father took you, and these are the places you now take your children. Those of us who have moved away from home adore them from afar and make a point of visiting them first thing in the morning when we arrive in town for a visit.

These pizzerias are both a thing and not a thing at the same time. The finest of them, without a doubt, have a large and dedicated following, and are packed on a regular basis. They are not, however, pursuing fashion. They’re timeless, they’re legendary, and they’ll be around forever. The combination of these features is what I consider to be ″bar pizza.″

But isn’t any pizza served in a bar by definition “bar pizza”?

No, I would not say that. Those establishments who offer complimentary slices or tiny pies with a drink frequently offer something unique, not just in terms of style, but also in terms of aim.At that point, you’re going to be drinking mostly, with the pizza serving as an afterthought or something to soak up the liquor. In a bar-pizza joint, the pizza is the main attraction, while the alcohol is an added benefit.Places such as the Star Tavern (Orange, New Jersey), the Colony Grill (Stamford, Connecticut), the Lynwood Cafe (Randolph, Massachusetts), Kinchley’s (Ramsey, New Jersey), and Lee’s Tavern (Staten Island, NYC) may have started out as bars, but the pizza is now the main attraction, and you’ll find more children than adults there. These pizzerias, as well as their excellent, crisp pizzas, serve as my inspiration for the pies served at Margot’s Pizza in New York City.

This tavern-style pizza is an attempt to incorporate characteristics of the locations I’ve been over the years into something that is distinctly my own.I hope you find it entertaining.Adam Kuban is the author of this piece.

New England Bar Pizza Recipe, Perhaps the Best Pizza Ever

    • To be honest, the quality of pizza hut has declined in recent years, but it is still impressive that they have sent pizza to the International Space Station! Pizza Hut, a US restaurant chain, has stated that it has become the first firm in the world to send a pizza to the International Space Station (ISS). So, what is a New England Bar Pizza, and how do you make one? A New England bar pizza is smaller in size than classic Neapolitan or New York pizza, approximately 10 inches in diameter and baked in a pan rather than a stone oven. The crust is more cracker-like in texture, with charred edges, which imparts a fantastic taste to the dish. The cheese and sauce are spread all the way to the edge of the pizza, leaving no visible crust. While traditional pizza is made with mozzarella cheese, the New England bar pizza is made with both mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Cheddar cheese has more oil than other types of cheese, which contributes to its greasy flavor (believe me, it’s delicious
    • how could it not be?). It’s cheese grease!) as well as a browned coloring substance. Consider the brown bubbling delight in front of you. Take note of the scorched edge around the edge of the pan. This is exactly what you want to have with your New England Bar Pizza since it is packed with flavor. New England Bar Pizza is a type of pizza that originated in New England. Preparation time: 3 hours Preparation time: 12 minutes Total time required: 3 hours a period of 12 minutes This recipe makes 4 servings. 7. For the Sauce, combine all of the ingredients in a food processor and pulse until smooth, about 30 seconds. Remove from consideration

    17. 1 1/3 cup sauce should be spread thinly over the dough.
    18. With a pastry brush, paint sauce over the edge of the dough
    19. 1 cup of the cheese mixture should be distributed equally over the pizza.
    20. Fill the rest of the sandwich with your favorite ingredients.
    21. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
    22. Bake for about 12 minutes, or until the crust is browned and the cheese is bubbling and beginning to brown

Local flavor and then some: Bar pizza rules on the South Shore

When it comes to the pursuit of extraordinary flavors, certain dishes are famous in their own right. The truffles of Villefranche-du-Perigord, France, are famous worldwide.Poutines are the national dish of Canada.Switzerland’s chocolates are world-renowned.One of the pleasures of travel is the opportunity to sample those exquisite dishes in their own country. Here’s one you can try right now, whether or not there’s a pandemic: Move over, truffles of France, and make way for the bar pizzas of the South Shore.

For at least half a century, a rare and much sought-after savory delight has been available in this part of the country.According to Kerry J.Byrne, CEO of KJB Trending Hospitality, ″South Shore bar pizza is so ingrained in our culture that we don’t even realize it’s a thing.″ In the months leading up to the closure last spring, Byrne created a Facebook page (for those who are fans). He said that there was hardly a trickle of interest at initially. However, as the shutdown began and people began to focus on takeout, things became chaotic. With over 20,000 users, the group has evolved into a forum where individuals can argue the perfect crust, exchange childhood memories, and, most importantly, share places where they can go for a drive and look for the greatest pizza.

    1. As a result, what happened?
    2. Byrne claims that, despite the fact that restaurants are closing at an alarming rate, none of the almost 50 South Shore bar pizza establishments has closed in the past year.
    3. Some businesses, he claims, have experienced a resurgence during this period.

What exactly is bar pizza?First and foremost, while it is typically served in a bar, this does not define it as a bar pizza.Byrne believes that bar pizza got its start at the Cape Cod Café in Brockton, Massachusetts, somewhere between the mid-1940s and the late 1940s.With a thin, crisp and buttery crust made with cheddar cheese (at least in part), bar pizza is distinguished by its distinctive toppings (such as baked beans or pastrami and pickles), but it can also be distinguished by its standard toppings.

    • It’s baked in seasoned pans, and those who are committed to it believe that a real bar pizza is always a 10-inch pizza (and you never call it a pie).
    • When it is served, it is nearly usually in a paper bag as opposed to a box.
    • Almost never does it come with a conventional crust side, but it might come with ″laced sides″ or ″burnt edges″ (both of which are wonderful).
    • In the words of bar pizza aficionado Jonathan Catley: ″The sauce is what causes the icing and charred edges, not the cheese.″ The burnt edges on the side of the pizza are responsible for the blackened appearance, and when you lace the pizza, it’s a small amount of sauce on the top of the dough at the edge.
    • As an example, you may request ″pepperoni, super crispy, laced with cheese, and charred edges.″ The flavor is enhanced by the seasoned pans and toppings, as well as the edges.
    • The same may be said for the preparation.
    • Tom ″Otis″ O’Toole, the proprietor of O’Toole’s Pub in Whitman, makes bar pizza on a regular basis.
    • Time, effort, and freshness, according to O’Toole, are the keys to making a superb bar pizza.
    • ″There needs to be a level of consistency,″ he explained.
    • ″Also, consistency in terms of temperature and method of preparation.
    • I am the only one that prepares the sauce in our establishment.
    • ″In addition, we prepare new dough each day.″ He claims that the Page family, who owned The Front Page, which is considered to be one of the first bar pizza establishments on the South Shore, gave him the recipe for bar pizza as a wedding present.
    • ″I promised them that I would never disgrace them,″ he stated.
    • During the 1950s and 1960s, the Page family produced over 2,500 bar pizzas every week.
    • This year, O’Toole’s pub pizza business had a resurgence.
    • According to him, ″my pizza sales have increased by two and a half times what they normally are.″ He attributes the success of the Facebook page to not just capturing the enthusiasm of people who enjoy bar pizza, but also for broadening horizons and bringing in new consumers.
    • People are now going long distances to pick up a bar pizza, which he believes is a result of people searching for something to do with their spare time.
    • For your bar pizza outing, here are some suggestions: Restaurants that specialize in bar pizza continue to do brisk business.
    • Many people who are finding it, according to Byrne, are taking road trips to other locations to try to compare them.
    • His Facebook page recently hosted a bar pizza tournament in the style of a collegiate competition.

It received more than 20,000 votes. For the most part, bar pizza may be found in the inland villages in the southernmost tip of Massachusetts. As explained by Byrne, sites were thought to have followed the trolley path from Brockton to Quincy, with new locations appearing in Whitman, Abington, and other towns along the way.Today, same trolley routes are highways such as Routes 53, 58, and 18, and it is along these roads that you can get those specialty pizzas.

    4. With a long winter ahead of us, there will be plenty of opportunities to become an expert on the distinctive flavor of the Bay State.

Their eldest sister (and biggest source of inspiration) works as a physician.Another is an engineer, and still another is a nurse – it seems to run in the family to put in the effort and reap the rewards. In the words of A.J.Azizi, ″we’ve seen the worst of it.″ ″Our structure is such that we can withstand the pressure, perform our best, and emerge victorious.

    • One way or another, everything will work out, and you will see the light at the end of your tunnel.″ A performer and singer himself, one of the six Azizi brothers, Sear, performs at the Como site for special occasions in addition to serving as the shop’s public relations and marketing representative, among other things.
    • The Como bakery and its proprietors have a special ingredient that comes from a family-oriented, resilient upbringing: they are enthusiastic about include everyone.
    • Our presence is for the pupils’ benefit.
    • According to A.J.
    • Azizi, the institution ″respects and accepts people from all walks of life.″ ″We make every effort to ensure that every consumer is satisfied.″ As soon as you come into the establishment, you can see that the brothers’ objectives have been confirmed.
    • The cashier welcomes virtually every client with a grin as warm as the pizza itself and a ″welcome,″ as if they’ve known each other for the last ten years the restaurant has been open.
    • While you’re waiting for your pizza, you may engage in a spirited chat that will help you forget about your nagging stomach.
    • Despite the fact that they are fashioned like footballs, you will not find any pigskin in these pies.
    • They are committed to providing ″pizza for everyone,″ which is why they have gone halal.
    • AJ Azizi stated, ″We want to make sure that all students have tasty fuel to use during their examinations.″ The restaurant serves a variety of traditional Middle Eastern cuisine in addition to pizza.
    • Kebab and basmati rice dishes, chicken tikka and gyros, as well as baklava and mint tea for dessert, are all on the menu at this restaurant.
    • If you’re a fan of pizza, students may take advantage of a deal Monday through Wednesday that allows them to get a small pizza for $5.95 instead of the typical $8 price.
    • ″I’m put off by the name,″ strategic communications senior Sara Smokrovich remarked of the company.
    • It simply sounds like a sports bar with crappy pizza to me, which is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while.
    • Despite the fact that this is a popular response when questioned about the restaurant, it is far from accurate.
    • Football Pizza is a delicious and hearty pizza with an even heartier tale that fuels its ovens.
    • Even skeptics will be won over by Football Pizza’s delicious and hearty pizza.
    • However, we recommend starting with the Mediterranean (green peppers, onions, mozzarella cheese, feta cheese, and chicken), which is one of the most popular alternatives.
    • The Meat Lovers (gyro meat, beef, and chicken) and the House Special (beef, green peppers, and onions) are other popular selections.
    • Everything is served with a side of the restaurant’s signature zesty lime sauce.

Football Pizza had its best-ever sales day on Super Bowl Sunday this past year, thanks to a flurry of activity in the kitchen. It was a huge success, according to A.J.Azizi, who added, ″We’ve been doing everything we can to advance.″ ″There’s a lot we can accomplish with this brand,″ says the executive. It is because of this occurrence that the Football Pizza owners are motivated to compete against major players such as Domino’s and Pizza Hut in the next 10 years.

    1. According to their projections, they will continue to grow their business through acquisitions and partnerships in the foreseeable future.
    2. ″It’s something we enjoy doing, and our clients enjoy it as well,″ Meerwais Azizi remarked.
    3. ″It’s a world of difference from that circular, boring pizza.″

Where to Find the Best Bar Pizza Around Boston and the South Shore

They’re insanely iconic, thanks to their super-crispy crusts and borders of gorgeously burned cheese that distinguish them as a particularly Massachusetts style pie.

Devoted foodies and restaurant newbies love The Feed. Sign-up now for our twice weekly newsletter.

Pizza at Bardo’s Bar & Grill./ Photograph by Reagan Byrne Bar pies are to pizza what ″candlepin″ is to bowling in Massachusetts: a regional variant that is a source of great pride for true-blue Massholes (raise your hands if you agree!) The rest of the audience is left scratching their heads and saying, ″huh?″ If you are one of the uninitiated, allow us to explain. The original purpose of these pizzas—which are native to the South Shore, by the way—was to serve as a simple, inexpensive snack while you sipped cold brews at the bar.But their smallish 10-inch size, thin, cracker-like crusts that get super crispy, and melted cheese that oozes all the way to charred edges have resulted in an entire local-food culture centered around these pizzas. They are really magnificent. But where can you get the best deals?

Everybody has a preference, so we expect some food battles over the selections; here are our favorites, at least for the time being.

    Alumni Pizza

Alumni, a pair of bar pie establishments in Weymouth and Quincy, Massachusetts, are surrounded by a following that has a fraternal order feel to it (where the original, now-shuttered location first started cooking things up in 1960).It is they who are at the forefront of a working-class tradition, dishing out hot and cheesy rounds of crispy pizza (such as the Triple Pepper Roni, which is topped with pepperoni, sliced cherry, banana, and roasted red peppers) that are exactly what you want to share with friends after a long day shift over a round (or two, or three) of suds.379 Washington St., Quincy, 617-472-0555, facebook.com/alumniquincy; 836 Washington St., Weymouth, 781) 340-0836, alumnipizzaweymouth.com; 379 Washington St., Quincy, 617-472-0555, facebook.com/alumniquincy Pizza at Bardo’s Bar & Grill./ Photograph by Reagan Byrne

    Bardo’s Bar Pizza

    1. If the IPAs, lagers, and other specialty beers on tap at Castle Island Brewing’s new Southie taproom weren’t enough to convince you to pay a visit, consider this: the taproom is free.
    2. Then we found out that the restaurant will also be offering bar pizza from the family that owns Lombardo’s in Randolph, a vast catering and events venue (complete with nightclub) where nearly every South Shore local has attended a wedding at least once in their lives.
    3. Even when we’re not especially hungry, we’ll stop by for one of Bardo’s delicious pies, which are prepared with Castle Island beer-infused dough and topped with house-made sausage, garlicky shrimp, hot-sauce’d chicken, and other delicious ingredients.

Bardo Pizza is located at 10 Old Colony Ave.(Castle Island Brewing), in South Boston. The phone number is 781-951-2029.

    Cape Cod Café

    1. It is possible that some brave, hungry anthropologist may one day present us with a complete history of bar pizza and its roots in the Bay State.
    2. In the meanwhile, we’re ready to believe Cape Cod Café’s claim that it was the first venue to serve this particular sort of pie (after all, they’ve been in business since 1939).
    3. But whatever the case, there’s no question that they’re still the greatest in the business, having expanded to four locations (Brockton’s being the first) and sending frozen versions to expat bar-pizza fans all across the nation (including Australia).

Cape Cod Cafe & Pizza is located at 979 Main St.in Brockton and can be reached at 508-583-9420.For more information, visit capecodcafepizza.com.

    Hoey’s Pizza

    1. If you know anything, you know something.
    2. What?
    3. The fact that one of the greatest locations to get bar pizza is an operation situated within a local American Veterans Post seems like a set-up for one of those classic Saturday Night Live sketches featuring Jimmy Fallon as a Boston Red Sox enthusiast, but it isn’t.

Despite the fact that Hoey’s pies are not to be taken lightly, whether they are topped with salami, anchovies, or anything else—and particularly not if you choose the Fat Daddy, which boasts ″two times the dough, twice the cheese, and twice the sauce,″ they are anything but.781-963-7171, southshoreoriginalbarpie.com, 9 Amvets Lane (Amvets Post 51), Randolph; facebook.com/southshoreoriginalbarpie.Pizza with crunchy edges and roast beef sandwiches from Hot Box, which has opened in Bow Market./ Photograph by Joey Calcavecchia

    Hot Box

    1. The fact that Hot Box is a takeout-only company at Somerville’s Bow Market may lead some South Shore residents to believe that it is some sort of citified-hipster, bar-pizza pretender is likely to discourage them from visiting.
    2. That would be a huge miscalculation.
    3. Hot Box’s wonderfully crisped 10-inch rounds can hold their own against any other pie in town, from the standard cheese pie to more unconventional creations like the Brunch1, which is topped with over-easy eggs, bacon, and black-pepper gravy, among other things.

) (There’s also a vegan option.) Furthermore, Hot Box is known for its North Shore-style roast beef sandwiches, which are perfect for when you really want to fight about one area does stuff better than the other.Eat Hot Box is located at 1 Bow Market Way in Somerville and can be reached at 617-284-9600.

    Lynwood Café

    1. The Lynwood has practically everything you could want in a South Shore town pub: wood paneling, wood booths, burgundy bar chairs, and a pair of arcade games tucked away in the back corner of the bar.
    2. Oh, and bar pizza—beautiful, delicious bar pizza that is so well-known that people travel from all over the world to indulge in it.
    3. Visitors are drawn to the area for its unique culture, its inexpensive beer, and its pies, which are especially popular for their topping of Boston baked beans.

    Poopsie’s

    1. Poopsie’s is a well-known establishment.
    2. Extremely well-liked.
    3. During peak hours, the restaurant may be so popular that takeout orders may have to be turned away.

Should you make a go of it, or better yet, should you head over to the old-school Mass.pub for a bar pizza topped with feta, chili, or ghost pepper cheese to get your fill of spice?Absolutely.Nobody loves a person who gives up easily.

    Tinrays Family Restaurant

    1. Tinrays is a bit of a hidden gem when compared to some of the other attractions on the list.
    2. Don’t allow this happen, especially if you want your bar pizzas to have a bit more crunch to them than some of the other, more cracker-like crusts that are available.
    3. In spite of this, the lodge-like establishment maintains well laced (that’s South Shore-speak for ″burnt″) edges to support toppings like green peppers, mushrooms, taco-style meat, and other favorites.

Tinray’s Family Restaurant is located at 9 Winter St.in Brockton and can be reached at 508-584-8900 or on Facebook at Tinray’s Family Restaurant.

    Town Spa Pizza

    1. Town Spa is a behemoth among bar pie producers, with a vast parlor that has the feel of a place your parents would have gone to in order to feed an entire team of little leaguers.
    2. Although the family-friendly and family-owned establishment (which has a separate entrance particularly for its nightly avalanche of takeaway orders) has been in the business for decades, it hasn’t slacked off in the least—especially when it comes to its pickled-topped pizza, which is the house speciality.

    Venus Café

    1. Venus will have you head over heels in love.
    2. Sure, the restaurant’s sparse, no-frills dining room and uninspiring facade are unlikely to catch your attention.
    3. The bar pizzas, on the other hand, are delicious and well-known for a reason.

In fact, not only does the establishment provide gluten-free dough, but it also offers a variety of ″sweet pizzas″ that include toppings such as apple cinnamon, Oreo cookies, and other sweet treats.thevenuscafe.com; 47 South Avenue, Whitman; 781-447-0494; facebook.com/thevenuscafe

    Sicilian pizza – Wikipedia

    • Sicilian pizza is a type of pizza that originated in Sicily. A typical piece of Palermitan sfincione (pizza) is seen below. Italy is the country of origin. Italy is the region or state of origin. Sicilian Pizza from the Sicily Cookbook
    • Sicilian pizza is featured in the media.
    1. Sicilian pizza is a type of pizza that is produced in a fashion that originated in the Italian island of Sicily.
    2. Sicilian pizza is also known as sfincione (Italian: sfincione; Sicilian: sfinciuni), focaccia with toppings, or focaccia with tomato sauce.
    3. By the mid-19th century, this style of pizza had become a popular meal in western Sicily, and it was the type of pizza that was most commonly consumed in Sicily until the 1860s.

Prior to the 17th century, the tomato-based form of the dish was not accessible. It later made its way to North America, where it took on a somewhat different appearance, with a thicker crust and a rectangular shape.Traditional Sicilian pizza is frequently rectangular in shape with a thick crust, although it can also be spherical and similar in appearance to Neapolitan pizza.Onions, anchovies, tomatoes, herbs, and strong cheeses such as caciocavallo and toma are frequently used to garnish the dish.

    1. Other variants are available that do not involve cheese.
    2. Because the ways of producing pizza in Sicily are tied to local culture and country customs, there are distinctions in how pizza is prepared in the various Sicilian areas of Palermo, Catania, Siracusa, and Messina, among other things.

    Variations

    1. The sfincione (or sfinciuni in the Sicilian language) is a highly popular type of pizza that originated in the province of Palermo and is now found all over the world.
    2. In contrast to Neapolitan pizza, it is often rectangular in shape and has more dough, sauce, and cheese.
    3. Herbs, onions, tomato sauce, strong cheese, and anchovies are all common ingredients in an authentic dish.

It is occasionally necessary to lay the sauce on top of the toppings in order to prevent the sauce from seeping into the thick dough.

    Siracusa

The pizzlu from the region of Siracusa is a traditional Sicilian dish. The pizzlu is a type of circular filled pizza that is popular in the province of Siracusa, particularly in the towns of Solarino and Sortino.

    Catania

    1. In the province of Catania, the traditional scacciata is prepared in two ways: a first layer of dough topped with a local cheese (tuma) and anchovies in the city center, and a second layer of potatoes, sausages, broccoli, and tomato sauce in the surrounding territory.
    2. In both circumstances, a second layer of dough sprayed with eggs is applied to cover the whole surface.
    3. A traditional pizza siciliana is a fried calzone loaded with cheese and anchovies that can be found across the province of Catania, as well as in Zafferana Etnea and Viagrande.

    Messina

When it comes to traditional piduni, they are a type of calzone that is filled with endive, toma cheese, tomato and anchovies in the region of Messina, Italy. You may also get your hands on some of the focaccia alla messinese, which is made with tomato sauce, toma cheese, veggies, and anchovies.

    United States

    1. When it comes to cheese pizza in the United States, ″Sicilian pizza″ refers to a generally square variation with dough that is over an inch thick, a crispy foundation, and an airy center.
    2. It has its origins in the sfinciuni and was brought to the United States by the first Italian (Sicilian) immigrants to the country.
    3. Throughout the northern United States, Sicilian-style pizza is popular in Italian-American communities such as Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut; as well as New York; New Jersey; Pennsylvania; and also Michigan (which would influence Detroit-style pizza).

Because of its prominence along the Route 1A corridor in various portions of coastal Massachusetts and New Hampshire, it is sometimes referred to as ″beach pizza″ in those regions.Tomato pie is a dish that is similar to sfincione, and it is sometimes mistaken with it or served alongside it.

New England is a state in the United States. Ingredients that are essential Pizza crust, mozzarella cheese, and tomato sauce Greek pizza recipe from a cookbook

    1. Greek pizza is a type of pizza dough and preparation that is popular in the United States, where the pizza is proofed and cooked on a metal pan rather than being stretched to order and baked on the floor of the pizza oven as is traditional in Europe.
    2. In contrast to the deep pans used for Sicilian, Chicago, or Detroit-style pizzas, a shallow pan is utilized for this type of pizza.
    3. In comparison to focaccia, its crust is often spongy, airy, and light; nevertheless, it is not as thick.

The crust is also rather greasy, which is owing to the oil coating that was placed to the pan during the preparation process.Pizza prepared in the Greek manner is popular in portions of New England and eastern New York State in the United States.

    History

    1. Costas Kitsatis, or Constantinos Kombouzis, called ″Charlie,″ a Greek from Albania, is credited with inventing Greek pizza in 1955 at his restaurant Pizza House, which was situated at 86 Truman St.
    2. in New London, Connecticut.
    3. Kitsatis was born in Albania and immigrated to the United States as a child.

Instead of tossing and stretching the dough to order, he used a technique that consisted of making a complete day’s supply of crusts in 10-inch pans in the morning.By the 1980s, Greeks were the majority of pizza owners in Connecticut, with 40% of the state’s pizzerias owned by them.

    Laced Edges or Burnt Crust?

    1. In the realm of South Shore Style Bar Pizza, you will hear a lot about laced and charred edges, and it is important to understand why.
    2. There is no difference between the two; nonetheless, it is determined by the establishment where you are drinking.
    3. It’s best to contact Laced if you’re at the world-famous Lynwood Hotel and Casino.

If you’re visiting Cape Cod Cafe, the charred crust is the order of the day.As for the other guys, they’re all well aware of what you’re requesting.Every bit of the trademark black ″lace″ surrounding the pizza is the product of the tomato sauce and cheddar cheese caramelizing against the edges of the 10′′ bar pan when baked at 500 degrees or higher.

How to Create Thick Burnt Edges for your Homemade Bar Pizza

    1. Creating a thick laced edge on your homemade bar pizza is a straightforward process that anybody can do.
    2. 1)Oil the pan before you start cooking, or else everything will cling and your pizza will have no borders left.
    3. Make certain that the edges are lubricated as well.

    2) Press your homemade bar pizza dough all the way to the edge of the pan, squeezing the edges together to produce a crust on the outside.3) Spread the crushed tomato sauce all the way to the edge of the pan, pressing down with the back of a spoon to ensure that the sauce goes into every crevice.4) Spread the cheese mixture over the pizza, leaving a small amount of excess cheese along the border of the pan at the crust’s edge.5) Cook pizza according to package directions, remove from pan with a thin spatula, and enjoy!
