Oh, there are a couple in Alaska..by a couple, I mean a lot but there’s mostly small chains. The big one is Sicily’s Pizza. Even a few Chinese places here are open 24 hrs! We were at the Emergency Room several months back, and someone ordered a pizza 6 in the morning. Was strange seeing the pizza man.
7-11 has Pizza now.
Not here. nothing is open here 24 hours. no drugstores, no convenience stores, no gas stations, nothing. LOL
We are not ONLY ″the Land of the Midnight Sun″.Alaska is ALSO″ Land of the Midnight Pizza!
We even have pizza service that will come to you via helicopter if you live in remote places here!I think it’ll cost you $250 though!
try your freezer!
Some Dominos in our area are open until 4 a.m. all the time- at least they used to be.
Got the late-night munchies, Ron?
I think you need to be in a big city for that. When I lived in Lincoln Park in Chicago we had 24 hour pizza, mexican food, and subs (3 different restaurants LOL!) and of course 24 hour diners. We also had a university right down the street and bars that stayed open until 4am so there was a lot of demand for food in the wee hours. But here in AZ?Very little is open past 10pm. Oh – and you can get pizza all night long on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. They have great pizza too – New York style
what do you like on your pizza ron?
I like Pepperoni, or plain cheese, or extra cheese, or multi-meats, or the kitchen sink. At one time I liked eggplant pizza, probably because it was fried eggplant. Onion pizza used to be great, but now it has unfortunate gastrointestinal after effects. I guess I just like extra pizza.
Ron wrote:Onion pizza used to be great, but now it has unfortunate gastrointestinal after effects. You need charcoal tablets for the onion one then ron. Here in Melbourne, no 24 hour either. Ginnys idea is the best, BIG FREEZER, then you can nuke (microwave) them when the cravings hit.
I can’t get pizza delivered here anytime! We live too far out.
You can only get pizza delivered here until 2 a.m. So no 24 hr pizza around here either.
Oh my you guys are wild!By 9 pm, I’m asleep and not thinking about pizza!Ron, I adore onion pizza, but when I have it at night, I have to have a Tums chaser!
Ther eis Place that delivers 24/7Pizza d″Carlo Gourmet Pizza 24/7 are located in temple terrace florida but delivers everywhere within 15 miles radious.
no 24 hour delivery here either-two places will deliver until 2 AM-Jets Pizza and Papa Johns.
We have 2 great Pizza chains in Atlanta, but neither one delivers. Mellow Mushroom and Felini’s are both great pizza, but you have to go an get it.
We only have one here that I know of.and I’ve never tried it.won’t either.I am not making this up.it’s called p@rno pizza.Apparently the pizza’s not bad, and when you finish it there’s a grown up picture on the bottom of the box.I’ve heard it costs a lot, but I guess that doesn’t matter to its target audience.I can only eat gluten free pizza, so I’m stuck with the two places in the whole city who carry it.and that always depends on whether they are out of crusts and/or they’re too busy to bother.
I have no pizza delivery at any hour of the dayI make my own or buy and bake. And I can do that 24 hrs a day
Me too Dawn.I’ve gotten pretty good at whipping up a dough and getting the whole thing done in about 90 minutes.
This has nothing to do with the 24 hour thing.but I have to share a really bizarre ″pizza delivery″ story from last night. We had gotten tickets to see the Indigo Girls perform at a local restaurant/ gourmet pizza/brew pub called the Bear’s Tooth (for Jo and Ron: same owner and concept as The Moose’s Tooth). Its a very small venue, and seating was first-come, first-serve. Our idea (and I think everyone else’s) was to go early and eat, then get in line. Unfortunately, the restaurant was CLOSEDfor a ″first tap″ (intro of a new beer) party. So, we got in line.hungry and irritated, since there was no time to leave, eat and come back. Someone else in line noticed, however that the delivery people were still coming and going.so almost every one of us got on our cell phones and ordered delivery to the line. Keep in mind, this is a line out the door and around the building in freezing Alaskan temps, in a driving snow storm. Weirdly fun, thoughOur ″line mates″ were all good tempered and good company (and a bit tipsy.beer was ″delivered″ as well). The main challenge was not getting pizza mixed up in the hair, scarf or coat of the person in front of you!

That might have been the most fun of the night!Improvise and have a good time.Beer and pizza.yum.If I wasn’t heading off to bed I’d actually have to give that more thought.and realize no beer in the house. No, I’m not staying up to midnight.I’m shivering with cold, so it’s time to find my hoodie or a hat and down comforters and go tuck it in.I don’t do winter well anymore.

I was driving into the city last weekend and noticed a truck in front of me advertising. A plow and pizza for $40. Priceless! Gave me a good laugh.
HaHA!That’s great!A snow plow and a pizza pie!How ingenious.I wonder how they do that!?!

Pandemic, worker shortages have left fewer 24/7 places open round the clock in the Region

Since the beginning of the year, night owls have had fewer places to go for a doughnut, a bite to eat, or some groceries in the small hours of the morning, when considerably fewer people are out, the roads are practically empty, and everything is calm. But that is changing.24/7 enterprises that were open around the clock have been closed as a result of the coronavirus epidemic and associated scarcity of staff. Many companies in Northwest Indiana, including fast-food restaurants, craft brewery taprooms, and others that had never closed before, have been compelled to decrease their opening hours as a result of the region’s historically low unemployment rate.Meijer stores will now close at midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.Businesses like Dunkin’ Donuts and White Castle that were formerly open around the clock in Northwest Indiana have changed their hours to more traditional business hours.

  • Even though its name indicates that it never shuts, the Round the Clock restaurant in Schererville, Illinois, has started shuttering its doors at midnight on most evenings and at 2 a.m.
  • on Thursdays and Fridays in recent months.
  • Munster Donut, another long-standing 24-hour institution where industrial employees, police officers, and paramedics have long sought sanctuary in the middle of the night, is no longer open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Munster’s long-running doughnut business, located at 8314 Calumet Ave., currently opens at around 5:00 a.m.

and closes at approximately 8:45 to 9:00 p.m.″It’s difficult,″ co-owner Elaine Butynski said.″For starters, we don’t have enough people to aid us.Second, we’re too little to be spaced out, so we’re only doing the carryout instead of the cooking.″ The firm, which started off as a Mister Donut, had been open around the clock for more than half a century.

″It’s quite difficult right now,″ Butynski said.″It’s quite difficult. We’re a tiny company with limited resources. It is because of this that we are unable to compete with other firms that can provide better salary and perks.

It’s just that it’s difficult. We can’t find enough people to work for us.″ According to Munster Donut co-owner Jo Ellen Aleksandrovich, the problem has been impacting a large number of eateries, stores, and other small companies.″A large number of businesses are experiencing financial difficulties. It has an impact on everyone ″″ she explained.″From here until Schererville, you’ll notice a lot of ″help sought″ signs.

For the day hours, we have enough employees; but, we don’t have enough individuals to cover the midnight shifts.″ While business was usually a little slower at night, Munster Donut nevertheless maintained a steady stream of regulars at all hours.A few struggled through the third shift or kept irregular working hours, showing up for work whenever they were due to be there.Others had a more ″you can sleep when you’re dead″ approach, which is understandable. The ambulance personnel and individuals arriving late at night after a concert or early in the morning on their way to the mill were a common occurrence, Butynski explained.

″People would come in early to pick up sweets for the workplace, especially on Fridays,″ says the manager.Customers have gotten used to the shorter hours, but Munster Donut would prefer that customers purchase fresh doughnuts rather than eating donuts that have been sitting out for a day or two to ensure quality control.″We’ve been getting rid of doughnuts by donating them to hospitals and other charitable organizations,″ she explained.″It’s a problem with the product’s quality. We don’t want people to purchase them in the evening and then not consume them until the afternoon of the next day.″ Several specialty doughnuts that do not sell well after 4 p.m., including French, sour cream, and other doughnuts that may not be sold out by closing time have been reduced in production to make room.

After hours, Munster Donut bakes just the most popular items, such as honey-dipped donuts, because the assortment has been trimmed down.Munster Donut has also been battling with supply shortages and is doing everything it can to stay afloat during the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the company. It put safety glass at the counter to ensure the safety of its staff and moved to a carryout model. The customer service representative added that ″a handful of folks are still coming in and trying to sit down.″ ″However, it is excessively little and does not provide any safety.

We’re going to keep our staff secure until we’re confident that the situation is safe.″ Munster Donut intends to increase its hours as soon as it has the necessary personnel to do so once more.’We’d want to move our hours back to at least midnight,’ she explained.″A large crown used to be handed out to us when the football games ended at 11 p.m.It was a difficult decision to reduce our working hours, but we were obliged to do so.″ They are looking forward to the day when they will be able to resume normal operations.

The absence of Butynski’s customers and those who worked behind the counter was felt by everybody.″We would welcome the opportunity to be open later, at the very least on weekends. It’s difficult, but it feels easier knowing that we aren’t being singled out.Everyone else is going through the same situation that you are right now.″ In the Gary metropolitan region, unemployment decreased to 2.1 percent in December, placing pressure on businesses that want additional employees.

In Northwest Indiana, help wanted signs may be found almost everywhere.″The low unemployment rate is nearly entirely owing to a steady decline in the number of people entering the workforce. When comparing the end of 2021 to the end of 2019, there were about 20,000 fewer persons in the job market in Northwest Indiana ″Micah Pollak, an associate professor of economics at Indiana University, shared his thoughts.

″Approximately 6% of all employees in Northwest Indiana left the labor force during the pandemic and have not returned as part of the ongoing ‘Great Reassessment’ of the labor force. It is also unlikely that these employees will return any time soon, given the current trajectory, which indicates that the labor force will continue to decline. As a result of this drop in the labor force, we have a very tight labor market in which, for the first time in more than half a century, workers have gained control over the labor market.″ According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the labor market has fallen to the point that less than 8,000 people are officially declared unemployed or out of work and actively seeking a full-time career.″This drop in the work force can be attributed to a number of different variables. The necessity to provide child or family care, as well as a lack of job flexibility, are the two most often cited reasons for workers not returning to work.

Other workers are opting to retire (or to retire early) as a result of the increased risk and stress associated with many jobs as a result of the pandemic, particularly those in the food service and retail industries ″Pollak expressed himself.″Even more people have decided they are no longer willing to work more than one job, something that Americans were doing in record numbers before to the outbreak. Finally, since more employees have the freedom to choose when and where they work, a large number of them have decided to relocate away from Indiana. While Indiana is proud of its ″business-friendly″ policies, the state is profoundly unwelcoming to workers, as evidenced by the large number of workers who have relocated to states and regions that provide better wages, legal protections and worker rights, working conditions, and overall quality of life.″ Pollak believes that the working hours reductions that short-staffed enterprises have implemented may not be permanent, but they may persist for a period of time.

The omicron wave has receded, and the transmission of the virus has slowed, so many firms have had to cut back on their operation hours recently, and this is expected to alleviate in the near future, according to the expert. The labor market has become much more competitive, and I believe it is probable that enterprises will continue to lower their operational hours from pre-pandemic levels in the foreseeable future.″
