History
Domino’s Pizza first opened its doors in Ypsilanti, Michigan, in 1960 under the name DomiNick’s.Brothers Tom and James Monaghan acquired the company with the intention of running it as equal partners.However, after eight months, James chose to devote his attention to his full-time job as a postman and sold his part of the business to his brother in return for the old pizza delivery van, a Volkswagen Beetle, which he had acquired.Monaghan established worldwide dominance in 1965 and expanded to two further locations the following year.Additionally, it was during this year that the name of the company was changed from DomiNick’s to Domino’s Pizza, Inc., because the initial owner of DomiNick’s refused to allow Monaghan to use the name of the company for the two new sites.
