Healthy Alternatives to Pizza Rolls
Pizza rolls, which can range in size from dinner-plate-sized calzones to bite-size munchies, are rarely a nutritious supper option.Six commercial bite-sized pizza rolls have 220 calories and 9 grams of fat per serving; a complete restaurant calzone has 940 calories and 32 grams of fat per dish.Rather than ruining your diet when you develop a longing for pizza rolls, consider substituting a healthier option.Without the unnecessary calories and fat, you’ll still receive that wonderful pizza flavor.
Baked Pizza Wontons
Pizza wontons are similar to bite-size pizza rolls, but they’re more better for you because they’re made from vegetables.Approximately twice the size of a standard bite-size pizza roll, each pizza wonton is filled with cheese and sauce. In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the ingredients for the filling and spoon a teaspoon into each wonton wrapper. It is simple to prepare a filling consisting of turkey pepperoni, pizza sauce, and fat-free mozzarella.Seal the wontons with water and bake them for 15 to 20 minutes at 375 degrees, or until they are crisp.
- Approximately 142 calories and 2.5 grams of fat are contained in a serving size of three baked pizza wontons.
- You may freeze them raw and then bake them later, exactly like the commercial bite-size pizza rolls that are available.
Cabbage Leaf Rolls
Pizza filling wrapped in a cabbage leaf is a delicious and nutritious way to enjoy the flavor of pizza rolls without the high calorie, high fat breaded covering.Fill a huge, young cabbage leaf with your favorite pizza ingredients and wrap it with a cabbage leaf.Grilling sauce, cheddar cheese, and shredded, cooked chicken are excellent additions.Wrap the leaves over the filling and bake for eight to ten minutes at 450 degrees, or until the filling is heated throughout. One cabbage leaf stuffed with barbecue sauce, cheddar cheese, and chicken has around 197 calories and 6 grams of fat.
Mini Pizzas
As long as you avoid oil and full-fat cheese, as well as serving it in tiny amounts, a mini pizza may serve as a healthy substitute for pizza rolls.Make the crust out of multigrain dough and then cover it with your favorite toppings.Fat-free mozzarella cheese and turkey pepperoni are excellent additions to pizza sauce.Make the crust no bigger than your hand, and limit yourself to one tiny pizza per person. The tiny pizza should be baked for six to eight minutes at 500 degrees, or until the edges are beginning to brown.
- A single tiny pizza will have around 188 calories and 8 grams of fat in it, on average.
Pizza Pita
A compact, whole-wheat pita replaces the doughy outside of pizza rolls, resulting in less calories and fat than traditional pizza rolls.Stuff a small pita with your favorite pizza roll contents and bake it for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees, or until it is crisp and golden brown.Reduced-fat sausage, low-fat mozzarella and mushrooms come together to form a simple and nutritious filling for a pizza.Approximately 208 calories and 7 grams of fat are included inside one pizza pita.Skip the cheese on the pizza pita if you want to keep the calories down.

What should my daily intake of calories be?
The optimal daily calorie intake varies based on a variety of factors, including age, metabolism, and amount of physical activity, among others. In general, the recommended daily calorie intake for women is 2,000 calories per day and 2,500 calories per day for males.
What are calories?
- Calories are a unit of measurement for the amount of energy that a meal or beverage contains. For example, growing children and teens may require more energy than adults
- the quantity of energy you expend will be determined by your age
- and your gender.
- Your way of life — for example, how physically active you are
- Your physical stature — your height and weight might have an impact on how rapidly you burn through energy.
- Other things might have an impact on how much energy you expend as well. Thyroid hormones are an example of a hormone (a substance generated by the body) that can be harmful.
- Some medications, such as glucocorticoids, which are a kind of steroid used to treat inflammation, are contraindicated.
- Having a medical condition
Calories and kilocalories
In general usage, the term calorie is used to refer to kilocalories in abbreviated form. You can find this information stated in kcal on food packaging. When it comes to the International System of Units, kilojoules (kJ) and kilocalories (kcal) are the equivalents of one another, and you’ll find both kJ and kcal on nutrition labels. 1kcal is comparable to 4.2kJ, which is roughly 1kcal.
Maintaining a healthy weight
Use the BMI calculator to determine whether or not you are at a healthy weight. A healthy weight is maintained by maintaining a balance between the number of calories you eat via food and drink and the number of calories you burn through physical activity.
Losing weight
Weight loss in a healthy manner requires you to burn more energy than you ingest, which may be accomplished by eating a healthy, balanced diet that contains less calories while increasing your physical activity. For more information on weight reduction, we recommend that you download the NHS weight loss plan, which is a free 12-week diet and exercise program.A doctor can also provide you with guidance on how to lose weight.
Gaining weight
If you’re underweight, you should consult your doctor for guidance (your body mass index is less than 18.5). In order to gain weight, you must consume more calories than your body burns in a given day. If you need more information, see How can I gain weight without harming myself?

How many Totino’s Pizza Rolls does it take to make a full pizza?
Andy Kryza is a professional photographer. Our childhoods were filled with illusions, but none were more deceiving than a particular myth perpetuated by the nice people at Totino’s, whose pizza roll advertisements portrayed a full slice of pepperoni being wrapped up and turned into a bite-sized, mouth-burning pocket of deliciousness. However, it didn’t stop most of us from gorging ourselves on endless quantities of the tiny suckers after school or during sleepovers at Rodi Pierce’s house (we all had a friend called Rodi Pierce, right? But I’ve often wondered how many pizza rolls’ guts it would take to cover a full pizza pie in this manner. And, more importantly, would it be beneficial? It’s time to find out for certain.
Please bring napkins. This is going to be a shambles.
The methodology
So I went out and bought a 12in pre-made pizza crust as well as enough pizza rolls to feed a group of friends for an entire overnight, all while Mom is sleeping.Totino’s rolls were prepared one 40-count bag at a time, and they were baked for five minutes less than the recommended bake time in order to avoid third-degree burns and to preserve the filling: as anyone who has ever caught themselves licking a post-cookie Totino’s sheet can attest, these suckers have a nasty habit of bursting in the oven.Once the rolls had cooled sufficiently, I painstakingly squeezed each one into a dish, similar to how you would compress a toothpaste tube (fun fact: each pizza roll contains approximately one teaspoon of pizza guts). After that, I distributed the contents evenly over the crust until it was completely covered with the filling.Numerous pizza rolls were damaged, and numerous greasy fingerprints found their way into my kitchen as a result of this.
The first 40 pizza rolls
It’s true that I didn’t completely avoid scorching the crap out of my fingertips, but most scientific classes have a learning curve that must be overcome.Despite the fact that it seldom results in blisters.Whatever will be, will be.Originally, I estimated that it would take around 160 pizza rolls to completely cover the pie, but I was astonished to see that the first bag only covered almost half of the pie.In other words, I could have a lot of pizza rolls left over after tonight.I’m not sure whether my wife would notice if I started watching Cinemax.
Thirty-eight more pizza rolls
With the knowledge that I would be covering this bad boy with the contents of bag number two, I changed my approach and began squeezing rolls straight onto the crust, but only after allowing them to cool sufficiently (Mom, I learnt something today!).And the decision has been reached.78!The equivalent of seventy-eight priceless pizza rolls (about two bags worth) will provide one 12in pizza that is completely covered.Science!
But how does it taste?
Take a look at that contraption.Without knowing that it was made from the intestines of the frozen snack that followed so many episodes of Duck Tales, it would appear to be very seductive, wouldn’t it?That’s what a little grated Parmesan can do for you.Yes, it is possible that this is cheating, but you know what? How about you try squeezing out 78 hot pizza rolls and then refuse to reward yourself with a treat afterwards?Do the flavors match up to the presentation, or is it just simply an upgraded Totino’s Party Pizza?
Is Duck Tales now airing?I’m hoping Duck Tales will be on.Honestly, if it was, it would taste a whole lot better.
The final verdict
Scrooge McDuck is such a sweetheart! It’s actually rather good!Imagine someone taking all of the sauce, cheese, and ″pepperoni″ from one of those Party Pizzas and dumping it on the dough from Chuck E.Cheese’s, but without subjecting you to the horrible robots singing pop songs that you’re used to hearing. Was it worth the effort of removing all of the empty pizza roll tubes and the time it took?Question posing a ruse: I ate the most of them, sucker.
But, no, it isn’t that fantastic. My stomach is also not doing well.My sofa – as well as some delicious, seductive Cinemax – are screaming my name right now.

Facts about fat
Too much fat in your diet, particularly saturated fats, can cause your cholesterol to rise, increasing your risk of heart disease and other health problems. Current government recommendations in the United Kingdom include reducing total fat intake while substituting saturated fat with some unsaturated fat.
Why we need some fat
- A minimal quantity of fat is necessary for a healthy, well-balanced diet to be successful. Dietary fat is a good supply of important fatty acids, which the body cannot produce on its own. Fat also aids in the absorption of vitamins A, D, and E by the body. These vitamins are fat-soluble, which means that they can only be absorbed by the body when fats are present. Any fat that is not utilised by your body’s cells or converted into energy is transformed into fat in the form of body fat. Unused carbs and proteins are turned into body fat in the same way. All kinds of fat are heavy in calories. A gram of fat, whether saturated or unsaturated, provides 9kcal (37kJ) of energy, compared to 4kcal (17kJ) for carbohydrate and protein. The main types of fat found in food are:saturated fats
- trans fats
- monounsaturated fats
- polyunsaturated fats
- polyunsaturated fats
- polyunsaturated fats
- polyunsaturated fats
- polyunsaturated fats
- polyuns
- Unsaturated fats are good for you.
The majority of fats and oils include a combination of saturated and unsaturated fats in varying amounts. Try to reduce your intake of foods and beverages that are high in saturated and trans fats as part of a healthy diet, while substituting some of them with unsaturated fats as part of your overall plan for weight loss.
Saturated fats
Saturated fats are present in a wide variety of meals, both sweet and savory. The majority of them are derived from animal sources, such as meat and dairy products, as well as some plant foods, such as palm oil and coconut oil, among others.
Foods high in saturated fats
- Fatty slices of meat
- meat products such as sausages and pies
- and other meat goods
- Butter, ghee, and lard are examples of fats.
- Cheddar cheese, especially hard cheeses such as brie
- Cream, soured cream, and ice cream are all options.
- A few savory nibbles, such as cheese crackers and a few popcorn kernels
- Confectionery made with chocolate
- Biscuits, cakes, and pastries are examples of baked goods.
- Palm oil, coconut oil, and coconut cream are all good choices.
Cholesterol and saturated fats
- Cholesterol is a fatty chemical that is mostly produced by the body’s liver, which is responsible for the majority of its production. It is transported in the bloodstream as low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and a combination of these.
Consuming an excessive amount of saturated fats in your diet can elevate ″bad″ LDL cholesterol levels in your blood, increasing your risk of developing heart disease and stroke. ″Good″ HDL cholesterol has a beneficial effect on the body by transporting cholesterol from areas of the body where there is an excess of it to the liver, where it is excreted and eliminated.
Saturated fat guidelines
- The majority of individuals in the United Kingdom consume far too many saturated fats. The government recommends that males should not consume more than 30 grams of saturated fat per day and that women should not consume more than 20 grams of saturated fat per day.
- Children should be given less opportunities.
Trans fats
Trans fats are naturally occurring at low quantities in a variety of foods, including meat and dairy products. They can also be present in partly hydrogenated vegetable oils, which are highly processed. If hydrogenated vegetable oil is used in the preparation of a food, it must be disclosed on the ingredient list.Trans fats, like saturated fats, have the potential to elevate cholesterol levels in the blood.Adults should consume no more than roughly 5g of trans fats per day, according to federal recommendations.
However, the majority of individuals in the United Kingdom do not consume a lot of trans fats.On average, we consume around half of the maximum amount suggested.Partially hydrogenated vegetable oil has been removed from all of the own-brand items sold in most supermarkets in the United Kingdom.People in the United Kingdom consume far more saturated fats than trans fats. Therefore, while lowering the amount of fat in your diet, it is more vital to concentrate on reducing the quantity of saturated fats in your diet.
Unsaturated fats
You should cut your overall fat consumption and substitute saturated fats for unsaturated fats if you want to lower your risk of heart disease.Several studies have found that swapping out saturated fats for certain unsaturated fats will help decrease your cholesterol levels.Unsaturated fats, which are mostly present in plant and fish oils, can be classified as either monounsaturated or polyunsaturated.
Monounsaturated fats
- Monounsaturated fatty acids serve to protect your heart by maintaining high levels of ″good″ HDL cholesterol in your blood while simultaneously lowering levels of ″bad″ LDL cholesterol. Some monounsaturated fats may be found in the following foods:olive oil, rapeseed oil, and spreads produced from these oils
- avocados
- some nuts such as almonds, brazilnuts, and peanuts
- and some seeds, such as pumpkin seeds.
Polyunsaturated fats
- Polyunsaturated fatty acids can also assist to decrease the level of ″bad″ LDL cholesterol in your bloodstream, according to research. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are classified into two categories: omega-3 and omega-6. Some forms of omega-3 and omega-6 fats are incapable of being produced by the body, making it necessary to consume modest amounts of them in your diet on a regular basis. Omega-6 fatty acids can be found in vegetable oils such as rapeseed, corn, sunflower, and certain nuts, among other sources.
- KIPPERS, HERRING, TROUT, SALINDS, SALMON AND MAKEREL are examples of oily fish that contain omega-3 fatty acids.
Most individuals receive enough omega-6 in their diet, but it’s suggested to get additional omega-3 by eating at least 2 meals of fish each week, with at least one part being an oily fish, according to the American Heart Association.Omega-3 fats contained in vegetables are not believed to have the same beneficial effects on heart health as omega-3 fats found in seafood.Learn more about healthy eating as a vegetarian by reading this article.

Homemade Pizza Rolls – A Great Party Food Appetizer or Snack
Homemade pizza rolls are a delicious way to savor all of the flavors of your favorite pizza in bite-sized pieces that are simple to eat and digest. Our family started cooking pizza rolls as a way to make pizza night a bit more relaxed and enjoyable. On pizza night, the kids were always eager to lend a hand in the kitchen, and we wanted to ensure that they continued to enjoy the experience. As a result, we decided to shake things up a bit and see how many different pizza combinations we could come up with utilizing their favorite pizza components. The pizza casserole was a tremendous success with everyone.Although this dish incorporates all of the tastes of classic pizza, it does it without the use of bread.
Instead, it relies on pasta as its basis. It is the ideal meal for a traditional sit-down family supper.Pizza casserole is a favorite of even the most discerning foodies.
- Additionally, pizza muffin bits and air fryer calzones were two of the family’s favorite dishes.
- However, we had other intentions for the evening in which we baked the pizza rolls.
- The game involving our favorite football team was taking place at the same time as dinner.
- As a result, we needed to come up with something that was quick and simple to prepare.
- Homemade pizza rolls turned out to be the right solution!
We knew we didn’t need to create a complete dinner because we already had other traditional tailgate items prepared for the game, such as our Cheesy Bacon Ranch Pull Apart Bread, so we didn’t bother making one.As a result, we’ve decided to transform this pizza night into an appetizer gathering. And the pizza rolls were such a hit that we’ve started making them virtually every week!
How To Make Pizza Rolls
INGREDIENTS
Pizza crust tubes that have been refrigerated Garlic saltItalian seasoning is a seasoning made from garlic and salt. Mozzarella cheese that has been shredded Parmesan cheese is a kind of cheese from Italy. Marinara sauce with pepperoni
INSTRUCTIONS
Preparing the pizza dough is the first stage in the process of manufacturing pizza rolls.Although it is possible to produce homemade pizza dough, we prefer to use pre-made pizza dough that is kept in the refrigerator. In the refrigerated case, this product may be found adjacent to the biscuits and crescent rolls, among other things. It comes in a long tube, and you may often find it labeled with both brand and generic names on the same package. When you’re ready to start making your pizza rolls, dust a clean work area and roll out the dough into a huge rectangular shape on top of it.Then you have to select whether or not you want to include a small amount of pizza sauce into the dough.
However, when I say ″a little,″ I am referring to a teeny-tiny amount.Just enough to allow the cheese and pepperoni to stick to the dough while yet being chewy. This step is not required, but it is available as an option.
- Garlic salt and dry Italian seasoning should be sprinkled on top of the crust at this point.
- Then sprinkle the Mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on top of the dish.
- Last but not least, add your pepperoni.
- However, if you are in a hurry, you may use entire pepperoni slices instead of chopped pepperoni.
- It is now time to roll the dough into a log.
Begin by rolling the dough tightly from one end to the other until it forms a log.Seal the seam by pinching it together.
Cutting Tips
It is now time to cut your pizza rolls into bite-size pieces and serve them individually. When cutting through the dough, it is recommended to use a serrated knife or a very sharp pizza cutter to avoid damaging the dough.A typical kitchen knife has a tendency to compress the dough rather than see through the components as it would with a pastry knife.Place each piece, face up, on a baking sheet with a rim that has been gently oiled.Pre-heat the oven to 350°F and bake for 10 minutes, or until the top is light golden brown in color.Using a slotted spoon, carefully transfer the rolls to a large plate with a small dish of marinara sauce in the center for serving.
Pizza and board games are the perfect pairing for them!- This is a recipe that we have used multiple times, whether for gatherings, an afternoon snack, or a quick and simple light supper dish.Enjoy!
