  • In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil and butter over low-medium heat until the butter is melted.

Cook for 3-4 minutes after adding 3-4 stems of fresh basil and mixing well. Remove from heat and add sugar to the pot. Leave the root of the onion intact while cutting the onion in half. Remove the onion’s outer layer by peeling it off and discarding it. Cook for 45 minutes on low heat, with the peeled 1/2 onions face down in the sauce.
  • Make strips of basil leaves with a vegetable peeler. After 45 minutes, add the basil leaves and simmer for another 5-15 minutes. If you cook them for an excessive amount of time, they will become bitter, thus it is recommended to prepare them for the shortest amount of time possible. The fresh basil will quickly wilt and mingle in the sauce if you push them into the sauce with a wooden spoon before cooking.
  • Using a sieve, remove the onions and basil stems from the sauce and set them aside. Blend the pizza sauce in a blender until it is completely smooth
