No matter how many times I ask my husband what he’d like for supper, he always says ″pizza.″ I can’t remember of a single instance in which he has passed down the opportunity to buy a massive cheese and pepperoni pizza from a delivery service.It’s something he enjoys doing.Pizza and brownies are on the menu.That is why you can bet I’ve been experimenting with a homemade version…one that tastes just as nice but doesn’t cost as much money to make every week.In other words, how in the world is it possible that a pizza can cost $18?!

  1. That is really mind-boggling crazy all by itself.
  2. My handmade pizza is definitely not as uniform as the ones you get from the major restaurants; it’s much more rustic in appearance.

How to Make Pepperoni Pizza

DOUGH.Starting with one of my favorite pizza dough recipes, I set out to create a masterpiece (I have two by the way, the other can be found here).It’s a basic 2-hour recipe that can be completed in less an hour if you use the ″quick-rise″ method described below.I prefer to make this dish when I fail to prepare ahead…or when we decide to have pizza for supper instead of something much healthier.ROLL.

  1. When the dough has risen and been split (the recipe yields enough dough for three 13-inch pizzas or two 15-inch pizzas), roll out one of the balls into a 13-inch circle and repeat with the other ball.
  2. Place the round on a pizza pan or peel that has been lightly oiled or floured (dust a pre-heated stone if using a peel).
  3. It is important to note that you do not need to bake the dough for this recipe.
  1. SAUCE.
  2. Using a little amount of olive oil, coat the dough and then apply the sauce on top.
  3. We prefer to use a light hand with the sauce, so our coating is often rather thin.
  4. Your crust should have a crust border of around 3/4-inch-to-1-inch thickness.
  5. As it bakes, it will rise to a wonderful height.

After that, sprinkle the shredded parmesan and mozzarella over top.On top of the pizza, arrange your pepperoni slices (Boar’s Head is our favorite, by the way), and then bake in the oven until the cheese has melted.BAKE.

It will take 12-15 minutes for this pizza to bake at 450 degrees for best results.The high heat will aid in the rapid rise of the pizza dough and the formation of a good crispy crust.Don’t be scared to raise the temperature of your oven a few degrees if it has the capability.GARNISH.Remove the crust and cheese from the oven when they are nicely golden brown and sprinkle with some crushed red pepper to finish.

  1. Let the dish sit for about 10 minutes before garnishing with fresh basil or oregano.

Alternatively, zap it in the microwave until it’s thoroughly warmed.

For the Pizza Crust
  • 5 1/2 cups warm water and 1 1/4 cups room temperature water, 2 1/2 teaspoons active yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, 2 tablespoons olive oil, 4 cup all-purpose flour, and 1 teaspoon salt.
For the Pizza Sauce
  • 1 can (8 oz) of tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp fresh oregano – chopped OR 12 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 clove garlic – minced
  • pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese – grated
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese – finely grated
  • 30 pepperoni pieces
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil – OR oregano leaves
  • pinch crushed red pepper flakes
For the Pizza Dough
  • Warm the water and yeast in a 2-cup liquid measuring cup until the yeast is dissolved. Sprinkle sugar over the top and let aside for 5-7 minutes, or until the mixture begins to puff up and become light in color. Combine the oil and the room-temperature water in a mixing bowl. Gentle whisking is required to blend the ingredients. Place the salt, flour, and water combination in a mixing bowl fitted with a paddle attachment and mix on low speed until combined. When the dough begins to form a ball, remove the paddle attachment and replace it with a dough hook to finish mixing the dough. Work dough for 2-3 minutes on low speed, or until it begins to form a ball and becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Remove the dough from the basin and transfer it to a large, well-greased mixing bowl (I prefer using olive oil, but you can also use Pam). Refrigerate the bowl securely wrapped in plastic wrap for 2 hours to allow the dough to rise. To use the ″quick-rise″ approach, place the mixing bowl inside an oven that has been preheated to 200 degrees and then turned off (this will keep the dough nice and warm inside, but be sure your oven is indeed turned off before putting the dough inside). Allow it to stand for one hour.
  • Punch the dough with your hand to deflate it. Remove from the oven and divide the dough into two or three balls (depending on how big and how many pizzas you want to create.) on a lightly floured board. 2) I create a 2). Form the dough into pizza shells to match the size of your pan (or refrigerate the remaining dough for up to 48 hours before using). In a lightly oiled pan (or one that has been sprinkled with flour or cornmeal), spread out the mixture.

In a small mixing bowl, whisk together all of the ingredients for the pizza sauce. Refrigerate until you’re ready to use it.
