Review: Domino’s Brooklyn Style Pizza
The goal of the Pizza Quixote blog is to locate destination pizza – a pie that is worth the journey – yet the popularity of large corporate pizza restaurants cannot be ignored. Previously, we dined at and wrote reviews for Pizza Hut and Papa John’s restaurants. After more than a decade without a slice of Domino’s pizza, I decided it was past time to reevaluate the chain.

- We opted for a delivery offer that included two ″large″ one-topping pizzas and a 2-liter Coke for $20.99 total.
- A ″large″ pie from Domino’s is a smaller 14″ pie.
- Five different crust styles are available at Domino’s: Hand Tossed, Handmade Pan, Crunchy Thin Crust, Brooklyn Style, and Gluten Free.
- The Brooklyn Style is the subject of this review.
- Brooklyn has some of the best pizza I’ve ever tasted.
Totonno’s serves classic old-school thin inflexible pie, while Roberta’s and Forcella serve cutting-edge Neapolitans, L&B Spumoni Gardens serves tomato pie Sicilian squares, Lenny’s serves granny pie, and DiFara serves world-class squares and rounds.Which of these is considered ″Brooklyn style?″ It’s difficult to come up with a definitive response.I believe the Brooklyn label is only a marketing gimmick for Domino’s Pizza and nothing more.On this particular pizza, it meant a soft, medium-thick, floppy crust that was dripping with grease but was devoid of taste.
- I thought the crust was almost on par with the flavor and texture of a DiGiorno frozen pie; it had the look, taste, and texture of a supermarket Italian loaf.
- There were some similarities between it and the fatty floppy slices available at Costco in this regard.
- It is not objectionable and is preferable to white bread.
- Domino’s pizzas that I remember from decades ago were rather unimpressive now.
- On top of this blah crust, things started to look a little better.
- The traditional mozzarella blend cheese was plenty – creamy and salty – and served as an excellent supporting player.
- The sauce had a surprising amount of flavour on the first few bites, being zesty and bright.
- With each mouthful, I perceived a stronger flavor of over-herbage and a metallic aftertaste.
- The pepperoni was thinly sliced but generously spread throughout the whole top, and it provided just the appropriate amount of salty/savory cured meat flavor and orange fat to complement the other ingredients.
Underside of the grease-soaked crust |
- As a whole, this pie was delicious and far superior than the Domino’s of yesteryear.
- Nonetheless, by today’s standards, this was a mediocre pie.
- The pies at Papa John’s and Pizza Hut are superior.
- Despite this, the Major Three pizza chains have caught up to the traditional mom and pop pizza shop, which is employing inferior mass-produced ingredients in order to compete with the big chains on price (details HERE).
- Three points are awarded to the crust, five points are awarded to the cheese, five points are awarded to the sauce, and six points are awarded to pepperoni.
Overall, because the crust is usually the most important component of any pizza, the Domino’s Brooklyn style pizza receives a 4.It’s preferable than not having pizza, but there’s really no need to consume this crap.
