    Step 1: Cook Sushi Rice

    Cook the sushi rice in the rice cooker according to the manufacturer’s directions after it has been rinsed. Once the rice is finished cooking, transfer it to a large mixing bowl and set it aside to cool somewhat. When the mixture is still very warm, add the sushi vinegar and gently mix it in.

    Step 2: Make the Crunchy Topping

    • Using a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
    • Mix in the panko bread crumbs until everything is well-combined.
    • Cook for a few minutes, or until the panko is golden brown, stirring often. Stirring frequently is required. Allow the toasted panko to cool once it has been cooked

    Step 3: Make Shrimp Tempura California Rolls

    • By using scissors, cut the nori sheet in half, and set one piece on top of the bamboo mat with the glossy side facing down.
    • Take approximately 3/4 cup of cooked rice and distribute it evenly on the nori sheet.
    • Turn everything over so that the rice is facing up. To assemble, layer the nori with the shrimp tempura and avocado.
    • Place your thumbs underneath the bamboo mat and raise the edge up and over the filling
    • then repeat the process.
    • Roll the bamboo mat away from you and press down on it to tighten it up a little bit. Continue to roll until the two ends touch.
    • Remove the rolls from the plastic wrap and put them aside

    Step 4: Assemble

    • Place the toasted breadcrumbs on top of the sushi roll and fold it over.
    • Cover with a new piece of plastic wrap and then with the sushi mat to finish off the job. The bread crumbs should be carefully shaped around the roll.     • To keep the rice from sticking to your fingers, soak your hands with Tezu water (water + vinegar).
    • Squeeze the rice and filling together as you roll the rolls to prevent them from coming apart. As soon as you’re finished, lightly squeeze the roll once more.
    • Make certain that the panko breadcrumbs have had enough time to cool before adding them to your sushi.

    Make the Crunchy Topping

    • Using a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat until shimmering.
    • Mix in the panko bread crumbs until everything is well-combined.
    • Cook for a few minutes, or until the panko is golden brown, stirring often. Continually stirring things up
    • Allow the toasted panko to cool before using.

    Make Tempera California Rolls

    • To prevent rice from adhering to the bamboo mat, place a piece of plastic wrap over it.
    • Using a pair of scissors, cut the nori sheet in half lengthwise.
    • Make a halo out of the nori sheet and lay it on top of the bamboo mat, shiny side facing down.
    • Preparing the rice: Take approximately 3/4 cup cooked rice and distribute it evenly on the nori sheet. Before touching the rice, you can soak your hands in vinegar water (Tezu water*) to disinfect them. This will help to keep things from sticking.
    • Turn everything over so that the rice is on the bottom.
    • On top of the nori, arrange 2-3 pieces of shrimp tempura and 2 slices of avocado
    • set aside.
    • Place your thumbs underneath the bamboo mat and raise the edge up and over the filling
    • then repeat the process.
    • Roll the bamboo mat away from you and press down on it to tighten it up a little bit. Continue to roll until the two ends touch.
    • Remove the plastic wrap from the jar.

    Assemble the Roll

    • Place the toasted bread crumbs on top of the sushi roll and serve immediately. Cover with a new piece of plastic wrap and then with the sushi mat to finish off the job. Use a gentle squeeze to gently mold the bread crumbs all around the roll.
    • Using the plastic wrap, remove the mat from the roll while maintaining the plastic wrap on the mat. After that, cut the roll into bite-size pieces using a sharp knife. Remove the plastic wrap off the food. Drizzle with unagi sauce or mayonnaise and serve immediately

    Here is my 9 step guide to rolling your own sushi:

    • I’m going to show you the procedures I take to make my creamy crab sushi roll and my spicy tuna sushi roll, so the contents will appear different, but the rolling process will be the same on both of them.
    • 1 – Cover your work surface with plastic wrap and then fill it with rice.
    • 2 – Using your hands, press the rice into the form of the nori seaweed wrapping as much as you can, then add another sheet of plastic wrap over top of the rice and use a rolling pin to crush the rice until it is thin and equally squeezed.
    • 3- Carefully peel away the plastic wrap off the top of the rice.
    1. If you’re using a large nori sheet, cut it so that it’s the diameter of the sushi rolls you want to make.
    2. I normally split the sheet in half and discard the leftover quarter of the sheet.
    3. The nori seaweed wrap should be placed on top of the rice, rough side down.
    4. Once it’s on the ground, it will quickly attach to the rice and become sticky.
    5. If there are any areas that require additional rice, you can tuck a small amount of rice beneath them as best you can.
    • Four, trim the edges of the rice around the nori, leaving a small amount of rice visible on the sides of the rice.
    • 5) Place the filling in the center of each wrapper, then raise up the sides of the plastic wrap on each side and roll up the wrapper so the ends meet in the middle or slightly overlap.
    • Turn the roll on its side and, while the plastic wrap is still on the roll, gently press the roll together with your hands.
    • 6- Press your roll together with a sushi mat or a cloth to ensure that it is tightly packed and secure.
    • 7- Remove the plastic wrap and clip any loose ends of the roll that remain.

    When adding sauces and toppings, you can either add them now or slice them first, according on your preference (see step 7).It might be scary to cut into a sushi roll with a serrated knife, but if you use one that has been dipped in either rice vinegar or water between each slice, it becomes much easier to do.To get through the nori wrap without tearing it out and ruining your roll, saw it gently and carefully through the roll.

    9 – Put it on a plate and enjoy it.Experiment with these procedures again and see how skilled you can get at preparing homemade sushi.The beauty of sushi is that each roll may be customized to your liking.Despite the fact that I provided approximate measurements below, you may find yourself needing more or less depending on how full you want to stuff your rolls and the size of nori wraps you use (different brands of nori wraps seem to vary slightly in size).

    I fill mine differently depending on the occasion.Sometimes I stuff them completely, and other times I keep them minimal.So don’t be concerned with exact measures; instead, go with what you think looks beautiful and enjoy yourself.

    What you need to make this California crunch sushi roll: (printable recipe is below)

    makes 1-2 rolls – depending on the size of nori wrap you buy

    • 1 cup cooked sushi rice (or brown rice) that has been allowed to cool
    • 2-3 seaweed nori wraps (sizes vary widely depending on brand, so try to use a smaller wrap size or trim the wraps to around 3/4 the size with scissors if you’re using a large wrap)
    • 1/2 avocado, cut into thin slices
    • 1/2 cucumber, sliced into thin slices
    • 3 sticks of imitation crab meat (optional)
    • 1/2 avocado, sliced into thin slices (optional)
    • 1/2 cucumber (optional).
    • 2 teaspoons of spicy mayonnaise
    • Eel or oyster sauce – may be bought in the Asian cuisine section of the grocery store. – 1 teaspoon
    • Quarter-cup of French fried onions
    • Bread crumbs on top of the roll are optional, although they provide a little more crunch to the finished product.
    • Cream cheese is an optional filling.

    Instructions

    1. All of your fillings should be prepared by slicing them into thin and long strips
    2. Place a piece of plastic wrap over your sushi mat and set it aside.
    3. Cooked sushi rice or brown rice can be added at this point.
    4. Cover with another sheet of plastic wrap and roll out with a rolling pin until it’s in a rectangular shape that will accommodate the nori wrap and is approximately 1/2 inch thick
    5. Remove the plastic wrap off the top of the container
    6. Place the nori wrapper on top, shiny side up, and press down.
    7. Prepare the dish by combining imitation crab meat with avocado and cucumber, a bit spicy mayo, and eel or oyster sauce.
    8. Roll it together by pulling both sides of the underlying plastic wrap up at the same time
    9. Press the roll into a long cylinder with the help of the sushi mat, a cloth, or your own hands.
    10. Combine the spicy mayo, eel or oyster sauce, French fried onions, and optional panko bread crumbs in a large mixing bowl
    11. mix well.
    12. Slice the roll with a sharp or serrated knife that has been dipped in rice vinegar or water to prevent it from becoming sticky

    *To make your own spicy mayonnaise, combine 2 tablespoons mayonnaise with 1-2 teaspoons sriracha, depending on desired level of spiciness, and whisk together until smooth. * The following is an optional sauce that I like to apply on top of my rolls on occasion: 1 teaspoon oyster sauce to 2 tablespoons soy sauce and a hefty sprinkle of sugar, whisked together until the sugar dissolves.

    1. Cut a square nori sheet in half (for a restaurant-style presentation) or quarters (for a more home-style presentation)
    2. Place the nori on your hand with the glossy side facing up
    3. Make a 45-degree angle with the top left corner of the nori sheet and flatten/spread 1/4 cup sushi rice across the top of the nori sheet
    4. Organize the following ingredients on top of the rice: cucumber, 1-2 kinds of sashimi, and radish sprouts
    5. Roll the nori from the bottom left corner up to the middle of the top edge to make a triangle, and continue rolling until you have formed a cone shape
    6. Place a bit of rice on the tip of the nori sheet to keep the folds in place.

    • In a frying pan, combine one teaspoon sesame oil and two teaspoons olive oil and heat over medium heat until the sesame oil is hot.
