- Pizza is something that almost nobody dislikes, so getting a large plate of it is always a special occasion.
- Considering the fact that you don’t want anything to go to waste as a meal planner, asking how many pieces are on a big pizza is actually a good question.
The appeal of pizza is also in how informal it is, as opposed to a formal supper that necessitates the use of several serving pieces and utensils. When you’re entertaining a large gathering, it’s also less expensive, but it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on flavor, enjoyment, or overall experience.
Pizza Size Variations
- The normal pizza size comes with eight slices, which is generally enough for a party of four people to enjoy it.
- Typically, this is a twelve-inch pie, with the assumption that each guest will consume two pieces of the pie.
- A smaller pie, eight to ten inches in diameter, will provide six pieces and may be a nice alternative for families with children.
Reduce the size of a regular slice of bread for your child to half its original size to regulate their intake and reduce wasting. If he manages to finish it off, that’s when you may give him the remaining half. You won’t have to waste food by throwing away half-eaten pizza pieces that may have been shared with others. In addition to the twelve-inch pie, the fourteen-inch pie is a popular size for pizza that is perfect for game nights or relaxing evenings at home. This recipe makes 10 pieces. The next size up is the extra-large pizza, which measures sixteen to eighteen inches in diameter and yields twelve pieces.
This sounds like the perfect way for a tiny workplace to celebrate a modest win at the end of a long workweek.

Slice to Pizza Size Ratio
- When selecting how many pizzas to purchase, the size of the pizza is a major factor to consider. Let’s have a look at the different sizes. In this table, you will find the usual pizza sizes from a typical pizza restaurant, ranging from a little pie to an extra-large pizza, as well as the number of slices that are included in each size. Small pizzas are 8-10 inches in diameter with 6 slices
- medium pizzas are 12-14 inches in diameter with 8 slices
- and large pizzas are 14-16 inches in diameter with 8 slices.
- Extra-large pizza (about 16-18 inches in diameter with 8-10 pieces)
- No matter what size pizza you order, contrary to common perception, the typical pizza will always come with 8 pieces. The tiny pizza, on the other hand, is often served with 6 pieces due to its modest size. According to interviews with pizza specialists published in Pizza Today, the following are some instances of how pizza proportions differ throughout pizzerias. Joe’s Pizza in New York City serves a huge plain cheese pizza that is 21 inches in diameter and has 8 slices each slice.
- A big pizza at Metro Pizza in Las Vegas is presently 18 inches in diameter, and it is sliced into 6 or 8 pieces depending on where you are.
- Scott’s Pizza Tours in New York City visit over 50 different pizza places, and the normal pie is 18 to 20 inches in diameter and divided into 8 pieces.
- Recall that the size of the pizza will differ from restaurant to restaurant, so make careful to check with the restaurant over the phone before placing your order.
- When it comes to cutting, pizza businesses are ready to accommodate unique requests.
- For example, if a big cheese pizza is generally cut into 8 slices at your local pizza joint, the restaurant may simply cut the pizza into more pieces to accommodate your party.
When buying pizza for children, this is the ultimate expert tip to keep in mind so that they can consume smaller slices without difficulty!Additionally, you may get the pizza uncut and assemble it yourself. In many circumstances, restaurants may also serve square sliced pizza, which is a fun thing to know.In Northeastern Pennsylvania, the conventional pizza is rectangular in shape, and it is referred to as a pizza tray rather than a pizza pie! It’s also offered in cuts rather than by the amount of slices, which is another difference. In order to split a whole tray into 12 pieces, a half tray would be sliced into 6 pieces.

Tips for Ordering Pizza For Both Small and Large Groups
If you’ve used our pizza calculator to figure out how much pizza to order for your group but are still perplexed, continue reading to learn about the variables we take into consideration when placing our own pizza orders.
1. The number of adults vs children.
When ordering pizza, it’s vital to know how many people will be in attendance, but it’s even more important to know who those individuals are. How many adults are there? How many children are there? When it comes to ordering pizza, children play a significant role because they consume far less than the average adult.
2. Appetite level.
- Just how hungry are you right now?
- The average number of pizza slices consumed by an adult is three, however this amount can vary significantly depending on the individual’s appetite.
- It’s true that some individuals only want a slice of pie while others can devour half a pie, so keep your visitors’ eating habits in mind when placing your order for the group.
People, hunger is measured on a sliding scale!
3. Preferences, allergies and diet requirements.
- Pizza toppings are a popular discussion subject for both large and small gatherings.
- You should take note of the group’s tastes so that you can get enough of everything.
- This includes pepperoni, supreme, veggie, black olives, green peppers, red onion, Italian sausage, Hawaiian, BBQ chicken, anchovies, white pie, speciality pizza, and plain cheese.
Other considerations include whether or whether anyone in the group has dietary limitations, in addition to the style of pizza.Pizza establishments do an excellent job of accommodating allergy sufferers, offering gluten-free pizza, cauliflower crust, vegan and vegetarian alternatives, among other things. In addition, there are always apps to accompany your dinner, featuring Italian staples such as antipasto, eggplant parmesan, and fresh mozzarella, among others.
4. Understand how many slices are included with each size.
- If you’re trying to decide whether or not to order several pizza sizes, knowing how many pieces are in a normal pie is valuable information to have.
- There are many different crust kinds, ranging from crispy thin crust pizza to chicago-style deep-dish pizza, which might be useful when calculating how much pizza is needed.
- However, the number of people is the most important factor to consider.
Perhaps, after reviewing your options with our pizza calculator, you find that you require 3 pizzas but would want to keep a few extras on hand for later use.Our rule of thumb is to order a little cheese to keep on hand at all times.Visitors frequently want another slice of cake but do not like to commit to an entire cake, making this a perfect method to provide smaller portions to your guests!!Asking for the pizza to be twice sliced is yet another useful trick.Because a double cut pizza is divided into two times the number of slices as a conventional pizza, a big cheese pizza will be split into 16 smaller pieces rather than the customary eight. This is an excellent choice if you have a large group of children or if you prefer appetizer-sized amounts.
Tipping for Large Pizza Orders
- When placing big catering orders, it is usual to leave a 20 percent gratuity.
- Behind the scenes, there is a lot of work that goes into preparing your purchase for delivery.
- In addition to making the pizza and prepping it for takeout, the pizza restaurant must pack it appropriately to fit the group and ensure that it has all of the necessary napkins, spices, sauces, and utensils.
All of this is done before the package ever leaves the building! When placing a large order, it is common for catering gratuities to be distributed among all staff, including the driver and chef, so keep this in mind when tipping.Inclement weather circumstances such as snow and rain, as well as busy hours and holidays such as Super Bowl Sunday and NFL games, should be factored into your estimate by 10-15 percent.More information on how much to tip pizza delivery drivers can be found in our comprehensive guide on tipping, which also includes a pizza tip calculator.
The bottom line is that if you’re still on the fence about purchasing that additional pie, even after consulting the pizza calculator, simply go ahead and order it. We’ll show you how to reheat pizza the next day so that ooey gooey slice tastes just as amazing as the day it was made.
- I don’t submit many reviews on this site because I spend most of my time on Instagram, but I wanted to make sure that this video was linked here!
- Preparing for this challenge was a major problem, and I was only able to complete it in a week.
- I generally ate one enormous meal a day, with the portions getting progressively greater.
As a result, my stomach grew in size, and it also prepared me for what was about to happen. Finally, I came in second and was overjoyed with my accomplishment!Even when devouring the pizza at breakneck speed, the pie was surprisingly tasty. However, because the crust was dry, I ended up tearing up a large portion of my mouth, which I didn’t realize till the end. It’s hardly unexpected that the Artichoke Pizza is nice, but not spectacular.
Mama’s Too! (Manhattan, NY)
- Mama’s Too has been on my list of places to visit for quite some time, but its location on the elusive Upper West Side of Manhattan has put it just out of reach for me until now.
- Since opening a little more than a year ago, this pizza has generated considerable interest among locals and visitors to the area.
- On a Friday night, I finally decided to make the drive to the tiny pizza business that everyone had been raving about with a group of friends.
By the conclusion of the trip, we were all relieved that we had made it!A fun tidbit about Mama’s Too is that it was founded by a son of a family that also owns and operates another pizza in the neighborhood named Mama’s, which gives the name its unique ring.Rather of trying to outdo his parents, he decided to create Mama’s Too a block away in order to bring their product into the modern day, according to the New York Times.Mama’s Too is a small establishment on the inside, but you’ll be surprised by how many people are prepared to queue up in the limited space for their beloved pizza.Despite the fact that it was a frigid Friday night, the inside of Mama’s Too was bustling with customers waiting to order meals for takeout, delivery, or to eat in.They were selling pizzas at such a rapid pace that they couldn’t maintain enough on hand to display on their little counter.
It was certainly a sight to watch how quickly their new slices were being distributed!
- On top of the pizza is a vodka slice, which is not something I would normally purchase, but it was the only piece available when we first placed our order with them.
- About 2 seconds into my first mouthful, I realized how glad I was that I didn’t pass up this opportunity.
- The sauce was excellent, with a ton of flavor and a rich texture.
This slice is also topped with ricotta cheese, which, when combined with the vodka sauce, creates a creamy tomato taste that is out of this world. In addition, I believe this is the finest photograph of a pizza slice I’ve ever taken, therefore it will be in my heart for a long time.I would drive great distances to have another slice of this pie.Following that, we had their pepperoni. It’s worth noting that the sides of this slice have been scorched, which is a trademark of Mama’s Too and distinguishes it from other ‘roni cup Sicilian slices available elsewhere.I particularly appreciated the charred edges on this slice of pizza, which were filled with flavor and offered an excellent distinct feel to the pizza that I found quite enjoyable.
The rest of the slice was (as expected) excellent.Excellent CSR, well-cooked crust, excellent ‘roni cups, and a fantastic slice.Would I choose this pepperoni slice over a Spicy Spring from Prince St Pizza, on the other hand?I think so.
No.This is fantastic, but Prince St’s incarnation is unquestionably the best.
Mama’s Too is a film that lives up to the expectations. It may be a long distance to travel for pizza, but if you’re a pizza fanatic like me, you’ll make the effort. Once you’ve visited, you’ll understand why it’s so prominent in the current pizza zeitgeist: it serves delicious, authentic Italian pizza.
Joe and Pat’s (East Village)
- The most of the time, I’m not really enthusiastic about writing new reviews, but I had an incredible experience last night that I can’t wait to tell you about.
- Joe and Pat’s is a Staten Island institution that has recently expanded to include a new location in the East Village part of Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood.
- Thin crust pies have been served at their original site since the 1960s, so they know what they are doing.
Their Staten Island restaurant consistently ranks high on top New York City pizza lists, so I was delighted to be visiting a friend who lived just a few blocks away from their Manhattan location at the time. The interior design left a lasting impression on me.The quality of a pizzeria’s decor is not often on par with the quality of their pizza, but this is not the case here!It was completely filled at 11 p.m.on a Friday, which is a terrific indication of the popularity of pizza.Joe and Pat’s also serves as a full-service Italian restaurant for those who are finicky eaters or who, for whatever reason, do not desire pizza.
I also want to express my gratitude to the staff for being very accommodating to us, which was unexpected in a bustling downtown restaurant. They deserve to be congratulated.
- We went with the ‘Original 60s,’ which had half pepperoni.
- It’s as simple as it gets, with only sauce and cheese on the piece that doesn’t have any toppings.
- This is a really old school New York pie, from before the slice began to become popular with shredded mozzarella cheese, which makes the cheese dome on the slice that we all adore.
As you can see, this is made using low-moisture mozzarella, but it is not shredded, so the cheese appears in small patches on the top of the pie as a result of the baking process. One of the first things you’ll notice when you order a Joe and Pat’s sandwich is that the slices have a thin crust to them. Most people outside of New York City consider a typical slice to have a thin crust; however, this pie has an even thinner shell than that, yet not having a cracker crust like a pie bar.Because the bottom was charred but not burned, it had a wonderful crunch to it that was quite pleasurable to eat. However, as this is on purpose, there is no need to subtract any points for it being non-traditional foldin’ za.As opposed to their previous site, where they utilize coal ovens for this pizza, I saw gas ovens in the rear, which indicates a small difference in the cooking method.
The flavor of the slice is enhanced by baking it in a coal oven.Moving forward, the CSR is on the ball for this particular situation.Despite the fact that it is a saucy slice, the sauce does not overpower the dish. The sauce, which was delicious and had me coming back for more slices, was also a hit with me.
The cheese wasn’t very memorable; it was your normal mozzarella cheese. The roni cups on the side that had them were a particular favorite of mine.In the end, when you take everything in, the crunch of the crust somehow manages to elevate what is already a fantastic slice.
Joe and Pat’s has captured my heart completely! If they have a vodka pie, I would like to return to their restaurant and sample it, or I would like to visit their old Staten Island location. They’re crushing it when it comes to pizza delivery services.
L&B Spumoni Gardens
- L&B is one of the most well-known pizzerias in New York, so I was delighted to have the opportunity to return to these holy pizza grounds following a trip to the New York Aquarium the previous week.
- I had previously tried a few bites of these juicy slices before, so I was completely prepared for an amazing culinary adventure.
- It didn’t matter that it was a wet day in December; the pizzeria was completely filled, with cars double-parked in front of it to pick up their treasured pies.
LB has a wide eating space, both inside and outside, and they also provide a full Italian menu if you’re not only looking for pizza (I suppose those people exist?).It is their speciality to make an upside-down Sicilian pizza, which involves flipping the order of the cheese and sauce on each slice of pizza. There isn’t a lot of information available about where this particular type originated, but it was most likely promoted by L&B, and it is now available in a slew of other pizzerias around New York City.As the name implies, they also serve excellent spumoni ice cream, but you already know why we’re here, so let’s go on to the next stop…
- L&B is routinely considered as one of the greatest slices in New York City, and one bite will demonstrate why this is the case.
- This pizza is simply mouthwatering.
- First and foremost, as you can see, this is a saucy slice; you will definitely need napkins for this, which is a good thing!
Despite the fact that the sauce is rather obvious on these slices, it is quite excellent, somewhat sweet, and well-seasoned.Also noticeable is the inclusion of a firm cheese (perhaps Parmesan) in the sauce, which serves to enhance the flavor even further. After hearing that you should consume food with your eyes first, I believe that simply viewing all of this sauce will make a significant impact when tasting it later on.If the sauce is the star of this slice, then the dough comes in a close second to take second place. This portion was almost as dense as a cake, but it was not as heavy as it could have been. It’s really simple to eat 3-4 slices of pizza without feeling stuffed!
The acidity of the sauce on top is mitigated by the bread and cheese, resulting in a completely realized ultimate slice that is entirely fulfilled. The bottom was precisely done, and whether you like the charring at the edges or not is a matter of personal preference, but I absolutely loved it.
- L&B’s pizza is, without a doubt, one of the greatest pieces of pizza you’ll ever eat.
- I could easily eat one of these pies every day if I wanted to, but I doubt I’d be able to keep it up for very long.
- Their upside-down Sicilian slices have been adopted by a slew of other pizza shops, solidifying their position as a leader in the pizza world for generations.
The taste and quality haven’t altered much in the ten years or so that have passed since my previous visit, and it’s a safe bet that ordering a pie here will result in a memorable dining experience.I just wanted to mention that since relocating to New York, I’ve eaten a lot of delicious pizza but haven’t kept up with the blog nearly as much as I should have.Even though I’m spending more time on Instagram these days, I’m hoping to go back into writing longform reviews in 2019.If you’re reading this, I’d want to express my gratitude for your unwavering pizza enthusiasm!
Artichoke Pizza (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
- Even before I became interested in relocating to Brooklyn, I had heard about Artichoke Pizza, a chain restaurant that has grown to include more than ten locations, the majority of which are in New York City.
- I was apprehensive about going to a chain restaurant, but I was convinced that I had to taste their trademark slice, and I was not disappointed.
- Because my favorite pizzeria, Rosa’s, was closed that day for renovations, I decided to take a pizza detour to Artichoke for a review.
You can get a nice range of pizza at Artichoke Pizza, with the limitation that you can’t create a pie; you have to order from their menu of eight options.A meat topping was included on only two of these pizzas, which is unfortunate if you’re want to get some protein with your za.Despite the fact that these slices are larger than those found at your typical pizzeria and require two plates to hold them, the price reflects this fact.Of the options available, I tried both the artichoke slice and the basic version, which were both delicious.
- First, let’s talk about the artichoke slice, which is their hallmark and most costly slice, costing $6.00, which is more than most people would expect to pay for a slice of pizza.
- It is a pizza with spinach and artichoke dip on it that you will receive in exchange for your hard-earned money.
- Nothing more, nothing less.
The spinach and artichoke dip will go well with this pizza, but if you don’t like spinach and artichoke dip, this pizza won’t be for you. It’s quite straightforward. In terms of my own opinion, I thoroughly loved it and felt the combination of pizza and dip was excellent. The crust was crunchy, albeit it was a little dry for my taste. It’s really tough to fold a pizza this huge, and maintaining balance on this slice without folding it proved to be a challenge. That significantly detracted from the whole experience, since I dislike food that is difficult to consume.
After that, we’ll go on to the plain slice, with which I had a few troubles. It is not your standard New York plain, as can be seen in the photograph, and that is quite OK; diverse styles are very acceptable.CSR is a little on the saucy side here, but I really loved the sauce and the cheese on this slice; it was the nicest part of the slice in my opinion. My problems occurred with the fold, but this time they were not caused by the size of the fold, but rather by the condition of the crust.
There were enormous fractures that emerged when I attempted to do it, as you can see in the image. In several places, the crust appeared to have been burned rather than scorched, and the crust was dry.I enjoy a little burn on my crust, but this was something new.The slice had simply been overdone, and the crust had dried off at some point during the cooking process. This had a negative impact on my overall trip, and I wasn’t overjoyed about it.
- Artichoke Pizza offers a good range of slices in large sizes for those looking for something different, but you’re better off sticking with your favorite local pizza rather than this franchise.
- However, while I like their specialty pizza, I do not believe it would be my first choice over a more typical variation such as a buffalo chicken.
- Visiting this location is not something I would avoid if someone asked me to, but it is also not something I would seek out on my own.
