The pandemic changed tipping etiquette. Here’s what you need to know about when, what, and how to tip now.

It’s always been difficult to figure out how much to tip since there are no clear criteria, and you’re left guessing how to convert service quality into money. But the COVID-19 epidemic has simply added to the confusion and uncertainty.Toni Dupree, a professional etiquette coach and author of a book and magazine column on etiquette rules, says that many workers who rely on tips, such as waitstaff, hotel clerks, and bartenders, have lost a significant portion of their income as a result of the shift away from face-to-face customer service. However, while paying for in-person services was suspended at the height of the epidemic, tipping for other sorts of services soared.

Things like food and parcel delivery, as well as supermarket pick-up, were suddenly deemed necessary for public safety. Some establishments, such as fast-food restaurants, that had never previously requested gratuities were suddenly doing so.Newer service occupations have become increasingly popular, such as concierge health care, in which physicians and nurses visit to your house to do tests and provide treatment.Did all of these new services need the payment of a gratuity?Should the gratuity be increased because these ″important personnel″ were on the job during a pandemic outbreak?Should the amount of money you get paid depend on how dangerous the work is?

    1. And let’s not forget about the financial impact that most of us have taken.
    2. Many individuals, particularly those who have lost their employment, are finding it more difficult to make ends meet.
    3. Should those with limited financial resources still be obliged to tip?
    4. Another age-old debate is how much to tip hairdressers vs how much to tip hotel cleaning or how much to tip moving companies versus—well, you get the picture.

It became really complicated very quickly.″It started to feel like there was no rhyme or sense to anything,″ Dupree says of the practice of tipping.″We were just tipping on the basis of our emotions, which may or may not have had anything to do with the real service.″ We’re here to answer all of your questions and more, so you’ll know just how much to contribute as a thank you for the excellent services you’ve received. When you’re through reading this article, take our quiz to see how well you know your stuff: Do you know how much to leave as a gratuity?

Old etiquette rules no longer apply

    • When the epidemic eventually comes to an end, it will leave behind a few etiquette shifts in the wake of its passing. According to Lisa Grotts, a certified etiquette professional, author of several books on etiquette, and former director of protocol for the city and county of San Francisco—a position in which she oversaw national and diplomatic etiquette protocols, including tipping—the rules about who, how, when, and how much you should tip have changed. What has changed is as follows: Whom you should give a tip to. There are many different sorts of service employees that should be compensated.
    • The amount of the gratuity. Many individuals are tipping significantly more generously these days
    • the sort of tip provided is also changing. In addition to cash, gift baskets, packed snacks, thank-you letters, and gift cards are becoming increasingly popular methods of ″tipping.″
    • The instances in which we make a mistake. In recent years, food-service tips have expanded beyond gratuities for waitstaff to include tips on pickup and virtual orders, as well as tips for the restaurant’s proprietors. The occurrence of new tipping circumstances has grown commonplace.
    • The method of tipping. What companies do with the tips. Many service workers increasingly prefer virtual tipping using applications such as Venmo, PayPal, Square, and other electronic apps that allow you to transfer money to someone directly and promptly. A growing number of companies are requesting tips, and it has become more normal for tips to be distributed among all employees within a firm, including those who do not directly deal with customers.

We’ve gathered the greatest advice on tipping in the United States from our team of etiquette experts with years of expertise. Here’s the dirt on who you should tip, when you should tip them, and how much you should tip them.

    • The majority of delivery drivers like to be tipped through the app, and this is frequently done at the time of order placement, prior to the delivery taking place.
    • As a result, how much should you pay your pizza delivery driver the next time you’re in the mood for some warm, cheesy pie?
    • It all depends on the overall amount of your bill, but the following advice is a solid general rule to follow.
    1. 10 to 15 percent, or $2 to $5, is a good starting point, but if the weather is terrible, you live a long distance away, or your order is huge, consider raising the amount.
    2. Personal shopper for groceries: Instacart, a service that allows you to make an order online or through an app and have it delivered to your door by a third party, became popular as a result of the outbreak.
    3. Even if you go to the store and pick up your order yourself, remember to tip the shopper.
    4. Although in-app tips are preferable, cash tips are still welcome.

Tip: 10 to 15 percent of the bill, or a few dollars extra if tip is already included in the price.Bartenders: Make a point of leaving large tips, as it is becoming more typical for bartenders to be required to divide their tips with everyone else who is working that shift.$2 per drink or 10 to 15 percent of the total price is customary.Baristas: Previously, leaving spare change in a jar on the counter was sufficient compensation; but, nowadays, gratuity is demanded. If your order is complicated, consider adding $1 per drink or more.

    Hospitality

Leaving cash in an envelope labelled for the housekeeper or with the words ″hotel housekeeping″ printed on the front is a good way to show your appreciation for their work every day.Tips: $1 to $3 each night + $5 for any further services, such as an emergency razor. When you hand over the keys, give the valet a cash tip.The amount to tip a valet is determined by whether or not you have any particular requests; if you do, increase your tip.$5 to $10 is a good starting point.Doormen: Today’s doormen are responsible for much more than just calling cabs, so take into consideration how much work they perform for you.

    • Don’t forget to take the weather into mind.
    • $5 to $20 is a good starting point.
    • Tipping the bellhop is customary, with a little more thrown in if they transport your stuff all the way to your room.
    • $5 for room delivery, and $2 to $3 for each bag.

    Home deliveries

Gratuities for Amazon delivery drivers: Although Amazon delivery workers are permitted to take tips, it is not required. If you get items delivered more than twice a week, you might think about adding a tip.Bottled water or juice, as well as pre-packaged snacks, might be left on your doorstep as a thoughtful present. If the delivery is very significant, consider putting $5 to $20 in cash in an envelope.Drivers and postal carriers for the United States Postal Service: The United States Postal Service has revised its policies on what presents employees may and cannot take, stating that gifts must be less than $50 per year. This list contains items that you are legally permitted to give to your postal carrier.

    • However, there is no restriction on the number of thank-you messages you can send!
    • Individual deliveries are not eligible for gratuity, but a nice gift or cash over the holidays is always appreciated.
    • People who deliver furniture and appliances include: The amount of the gratuity is determined by the size of the package and the nature of the task performed.
    • For example, if they installed an appliance for you, put furniture together for you, or removed old stuff for you, you should tip extra.
    • $20, or 15% of the total purchase, is a good tip.
    • Special delivery personnel include: Flowers and gift baskets sent for special occasions are often tipped by the person who requested the gift, but it’s kind to consider tipping the delivery person as well if you’re feeling generous.
    1. $5 to $10 in cash is a good idea.
    2. Movers: Even if your firm is covering the costs of your relocation to a new home, you should give movers a gratuity.
    3. It’s also a good idea to supply iced beverages and snacks for movers.
    4. Tip: $20 per employee every day, with a supervisor receiving $50.

    Salon and spa services

Tips for hairdressers and barbers: Remember to tip your stylist, barber, and any helpers who assist you.One of the most common salon etiquette blunders is leaving without giving your stylist and the helper who cleaned your hair a little tip as a thank you for their services.15% to 20% of the total, plus $5 to $10 for the assistance is recommended.Nail technicians are those who work in the nail industry. All treatments, including manicures, pedicures, foot massages, and polish changes, should be accompanied with a gratuity. The amount to tip for a pedicure, manicure, or other similar service is determined by the amount of labor performed.

    • If you have unique nail art done, increase this percentage to 10 to 20%.
    • Massage therapists are those who provide massage services.
    • The amount you should tip your massage therapist will be determined by the total cost of your treatment.
    • Take into consideration, however, that the additional cleaning methods have increased the amount of effort involved in a regular massage, and consider tipping a bit more generously.
    • 15 percent of the cost, or $20, is a good estimate.

    Personal services

Home cleaners: While it is undoubtedly appropriate to tip house cleaners over the holidays or for additional labor, many individuals are now including a modest tip for each cleaning that is done really well as well.15 to 20% of the total bill is a good estimate.Managers or owners of small or medium-sized businesses: Some individuals have suggested that you tip the salon owner in addition to the stylist or manicurist, which is a good idea.In recent years, however, it has been increasingly customary for small-business owners to insist that any gratuities received by individual employees be split with the rest of the team, making it unnecessary to tip the boss individually.Tip: Although no gratuity is expected, if the service is exceptional, try writing the proprietor a thank-you card and submitting a five-star internet rating in appreciation.Drivers for Lyft, Uber, and other services: Do you provide tips to Uber drivers and other people that transport you from point A to point B?

    • Yes, without a doubt.
    • You may still give the driver a cash tip at the conclusion of the journey, or you can tip electronically through the application (it often will suggest an amount).
    • Generally speaking, tips are more generous now than they were in the past.
    • A minimum of 15 to 20 percent of the total amount is recommended.
    • Household service providers, such as plumbers and painters as well as HVAC specialists and carpet cleaners as well as appliance repairmen and handymen, normally include everything in the final price; nevertheless, you can tip them if the service was exceptional in your opinion.
    • Suggestion: A modest gift, a thank-you letter, or $10 to $20 in cash would be appreciated.
    1. Pet-care providers include: The amount of a tip for a dog groomer, dog walker, or pet sitter is determined by the cost of the service, but etiquette dictates that you leave some money with them.
    2. It is not required to tip veterinarians or veterinary technicians, on the other hand.
    3. 10 to 15% of the total bill is a good estimate.
    4. Personal trainers and fitness instructors are professionals who help people achieve their fitness goals.

For a typical training session or class, there is no need to tip, but consider tipping at the conclusion of a series of sessions, such as eight weeks.Despite the fact that group exercise instructors do not anticipate tips, the odd gift is always welcome.$10 to $20 is a good starting point.Gift cards are available in the following denominations: When you purchase a gift card in the amount of the service—for example, when purchasing a massage or restaurant supper for a friend—make sure to include the amount of the tip on the gift card as well. This makes it simple for the individual who is using the gift card to pay for the service as well as the gratuity on his or her behalf. Many individuals forget to tip on presents since they are not included in the price.

    • 10 to 20 percent of the service price is a good tip.

    When in doubt, tip

When it comes to tipping, there are a plethora of other occasions where it is appropriate, and when in doubt, provide a tip, advises Dupree. What do we exist for, if not to make the world a little less difficult for each other?’ writes George Eliot, in one of my favorite lines. Giving a generous tip is one way to make someone else’s life a little less difficult.″

    When to skip the tip

While tips are much appreciated—and are sometimes relied upon—by service employees, not everyone should be eligible for a monetary benefit. In addition to USPS drivers, many other government employees are not permitted to collect tips at their jobs. Teachers, health-care providers, and professionals such as attorneys and accountants are not required to accept gratuities.

    Other tips on tipping:

    • Check to see whether gratuity has already been applied to your bill before leaving a tip.
    • Calculate how much to tip based on the original prices, regardless of whether it is happy hour or whether your item is on sale.
    • If you want to become the most well-liked regular at your pub, lavishly tip the bartenders (50 percent). If you’re in a coffee shop and the title is the same, throw $5 directly into the tip jar. Being nice and making discussions can also help you to be remembered, and getting on the good side of the personnel may result in you receiving a free drink in the future.
    • Make sure your tip isn’t visible to the public. Give it to the server immediately, place it in the holder that the check was delivered in, or pay with a credit card.
    • You shouldn’t be afraid to leave a larger tip if you receive exceptional service.
    • People who cannot or will not accept tips should nevertheless be greeted with a handshake and a heartfelt ″Thank you.″
    • Consult the standards for tipping if you’re going outside of the country. Tipping etiquette varies from country to country and even from state to state in the United States.

Sorry to bother you, but do you say “sorry” too much? What to say instead

    Jenice Kim

When we needlessly apologize, we end up making ourselves small and diminish what we’re trying to express, says sociologist Maja Jovanovic.

    • A piece of useful advice from someone in the TED community is included in each article in TED’s ″How to Be a Better Human″ series, which includes this one. To see all of the postings, visit this page. Consider how many times you say the word ″sorry″ in a single day on a usual basis. Every now and again, you have to say ″I’m sorry″ – when you run into someone or have to cancel plans with a buddy. But what about all the ″sorry″s that aren’t necessary? In meetings, the phrase ″sorry, this may seem like an obvious suggestion″ is used, as is the phrase ″sorry to cause problems″ while postponing a haircut, and the phrase ″sorry, there’s a spill in the dairy department″ at the supermarket. Maja Jovanovic, a Canadian sociologist, argues that the ″sorry″s we sprinkle throughout our days are harmful to us. Because of this, we look smaller and more frightened than we actually are, and our confidence is undermined. After attending a symposium on the subject four years ago, Jovanovic, who teaches at McMaster University and Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, got interested in the subject. She describes the four women who served on a panel as ″experts in their respective disciplines.″ They had each written hundreds of scholarly articles as well as dozens of books between them. All that was required of them was to introduce themselves. The first lady approaches the microphone and says, ″I’m not sure what I could possible contribute to this conversation.″. ‘Oh my my, I feared they had sent the email to the incorrect person,’ adds the second woman, who then takes the microphone and says, ‘I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude to be here.’″ The third and fourth woman performed exactly the same thing as the first. In the 25 panels that took place over the course of the week-long conference, Jovanovic recalls that ″not once did I hear a guy grab that microphone and belittle his accomplishments or diminish his experience.″ When a woman took the microphone, an apologetic tone was almost always followed by her voice.″ ″I found that to be enraging, but I also found it to be devastating,″ she continues. Jovanovic discovered that the outside world was not much different: ″Apologies have become our default mode of communication,″ she adds. Since then, she’s amassed a mountain of unwarranted apologies from her colleagues and pupils. Is there one that stands out? As Jovanovic explains, ″my research assistant apologized to the pizza delivery guy for being late to her residence.″ ″She exclaimed, ‘Oh my god, we live in a brand new subdivision.’ Please accept my apologies. ‘Did you have any difficulty finding this location?’ We can cut off the ″sorry″s from our statements while still being mindful to the other person. The next time you run into someone, Jovanovic suggests saying something like ″Go ahead,″ ″After you,″ or ″Pardon me,″ among other things. Additionally, during a meeting, Jovanovic suggests that instead of stating, ″Sorry to interrupt you,″ ″How about,″ ″How about,″ ″I have an idea,,″ ″I’d like to contribute,″ ″Why don’t we try this?″ and other similar phrases be used instead. The goal is to be courteous but yet without underestimating one’s own worth. The numerous ″sorry″s that appear in our written communications must likewise be acknowledged — and eliminated. Jovanovic recommends a Google Chrome plug-in called ‘simply not sorry,’ which will alert you to all of the superfluous apologies you get in email correspondence. ″Every single one of us has reacted to a text you received when you weren’t able to answer straight away,″ she says of text messages. What exactly did you say? ‘Sorry.’” It is recommended that you should not apologize but rather state that you were doing something else such as ″working,″ ″reading,″ ″driving,″ or ″trying to put on some Spanx.″ Whatever the case may be, everything is fine. ″You are under no obligation to apologize.″ And, in other cases when we’d normally say ″sorry,″ we could simply say the two key words: ″thank you.″ This would save us time and effort. Jovanovic recalls the moment when she discovered the power of thankfulness for herself and others. ″Four of us were in a restaurant for a business meeting, and we’re waiting for number five to come.″ she describes the situation. I put my sociological hat on and wondered aloud, ‘What would he have to say? ‘How many apologies is he going to offer?’ The suspense was almost too much for me to bear. When he comes at the restaurant, do you know what he says to greet everyone? ‘Hey, thanks for your patience.’. The rest of us answered, ″Yeah, you’re welcome,″ and then we all went to our own menus and placed our orders. ″Everything was OK, and life carried on as usual.″ Another situation in which ″thank you″ can be more effective than ″sorry″ is in the workplace. While out with a buddy, you become conscious of the fact that you’ve been doing all the talking. ″Instead of saying, ‘Sorry for whining,’ or ‘Sorry for venting,’ you might simply say, ‘Thank you for listening,’ ‘Thank you for being there,’ or ‘Thank you for being my friend,″ adds Jovanovic. In addition to deleting them from our personal interactions, Jovanovic recommends that we inform others when they are overusing their ″sorry″s. You may start with your family and friends, and if you want to, you can extend your reach even farther. ″I’ve been stopping these apologies for the past three years,″ she explains further. I’m going to do it everywhere. The parking lot will be no exception
    • I’ll do it to complete strangers in the grocery store or in a line anyplace else. Tipping the Salon Owner

In the past, it was customary to leave no gratuity for the owner of a salon, even if that owner also happened to be your stylist. The times have changed, and in many areas of the nation, it is now usual to tip the proprietor in the same way that you would a conventional stylist or hairdresser. In rural areas and small towns, it is not always customary to tip the proprietor.Again, if you’re not sure, ask someone. If the owner takes gratuities, the receptionist will be able to notify you as soon as you arrive.

    Tip on the Pre-Tax Amount

A ″tip″ for you that many people aren’t aware of: it is completely fine to base your tip on the pre-tax amount rather than the entire sum. This may apply to any situation in which tipping is required, such as restaurants, salons, travel, and so on.While this may not make a major difference if the price or taxes in the region are low, it can make a huge impact if your final bill is large since you are paying for a variety of services.Furthermore, when it comes to dining out, large groups may rack up hefty tabs rapidly.

Please keep in mind that this Early Access game is not complete and that it may or may not change in the future. If you are not interested in playing this game in its current condition, you should hold off until the game’s development has progressed further.More information may be found here. What the developers have to say is as follows: The game is being developed by a tiny indie firm of two people, and we have not gotten much feedback or testing outside of our little development bubble up to this time.As a result, we have a fantastic opportunity to get Pizza Delivery 3000 out in the hands of the community at such an early stage of development. This will allow us to gather valuable feedback on the game’s current state, which will help us refine and enhance the overall design and gameplay feel of the game.″ ″At this point, we do not have a specific timeframe for how long the game will be in Early Access, but we estimate that the game will be in Early Access for at least another 6-12 months until a full launch is conceivable.″ This Early Access release will demonstrate most of the game’s core features and capabilities, providing players with a clear picture of what the final gaming experience will be like.

    • Despite this, there is still more work and refinement to be done – and our eventual goal for the game is considerably greater than what can be seen in the Early Access edition.
    • The complete release version of the game will build on our Early Access foundation by adding new features and improving upon existing ones.
    • Ultimately, we want to significantly expand the scale of the game world while also adding more detail and incorporating some additional gameplay mechanisms to help transform what is presently a static environment into something much more dynamic and exciting for the player.″ ″The build of Pizza Delivery 3000 that we are presently evaluating in preparation for its release on Early Access is a feature-complete demo that includes one full shift of pizza delivery.″ The entire game will include an indefinite shift advancement mixed with a high score system to keep track of the all-time greatest pizza delivery drivers, according to the concept.
    • and create an incentive for individuals who do not already possess the delivering abilities necessary to rise to the top of the rankings.
    • Our goal in the early stages is to fine-tune gameplay mechanics.
    • The early access release serves as a solid basis on which to develop from there.
    1. In Early Access, the game will cost $4.99, and it will be available for purchase.
    2. In order for us to continue to add new features to the game and build upon the existing structure, the pricing will be reevaluated and changed to reflect what we believe the current value of the game to be.″ ″As a tiny independent studio, one of our objectives with Early Access is to gather input and begin building a community around the game at an early stage in its development.
    3. ″ Getting active with the players means listening to their suggestions and having an audience to show off our new features or substantial development progress on a week to week basis; this is something we would want to do.
    4. In our opinion, we have an idea that has almost endless potential, and that has the ability to evolve from a tiny single-player arcade game to a much bigger scale multiplayer experience.

It is the gaming community’s ability to be brilliant and supportive, as well as surprising – and we want to embrace that culture and use it to help refine and expand upon our gameplay concepts.″ More information may be found here.

DoorDash Tipping Guide: How Much Gratuity Is Enough?

Our website is made possible by the contributions of our users. When you visit our website and click on one of our affiliate links, we receive a commission. After joining up for a meal delivery service or an alcohol delivery app, navigating the ordering procedure is straightforward. However, when it comes time to choose a tip, you’ll need to do a little more reading between the lines to get the most out of your experience. While DoorDash’s tipping policy does not force consumers to offer any type of gratuity, there are social expectations on the site that you should be aware of before making your next delivery request. In recent years, the importance of tipping in the gig economy has been a popular topic of discussion among those involved in the industry.

    • As delivery workers grow more important in the lives of individuals all around the United States, consumers are expected to understand when and how much to tip in exchange for the services they value.
    • DoorDash is a meal delivery service that you may already be familiar with, or it may be something you’d like to try out.
    • If you do, keep reading to ensure that you’re leaving proper tips for your couriers.

What is Proper DoorDash Tipping Etiquette?

Every time you order a delivery through DoorDash, you are supposed to leave a tip.Because they are delivering a service on top of the restaurant’s preparation of your meal, the company’s couriers, known as Dashers, might be compared to waiters and typical pizza delivery drivers. In exchange, it is customary to provide a gratuity in appreciation for their assistance.Actually, tipping is such an important aspect of DoorDash’s compensation plan that it would be impossible for Dashers to make a decent life if they did not get it.This is especially true in locations with a high cost of living, such as San Francisco and New York City, when the average salary is relatively low.In the absence of tips, DoorDash drivers earn an average of $11 per hour, which is less than the minimum wage in several cities.

    • This hourly compensation can be considerably lower once they deduct expenditures like as petrol and auto insurance, which all Dashers (as independent contractors) are responsible for covering on their own.
    • Dashers rely on tips from customers to make a decent income, which is especially significant considering that many of them take up the food delivery employment to support their families or to meet other critical financial obligations.
    • If you don’t leave gratuities, your courier’s remuneration may be as little as a few dollars, even if they spent half an hour or more delivering your meal to your front door in safety.
    • Another item to mention is that if you’re using a DoorDash discount code, you should tip your driver.
    • You should tip on the whole price of the meal, just like you would at a restaurant if you were using a gift card to pay for the meal.
    • If you’re saving money by taking advantage of a deal, be kind to your driver and share part of your savings with him or her.
    1. A gratuity is also anticipated if you request a no-contact delivery, which was made accessible when the coronavirus epidemic first broke out (and is a default in the midst of COVID-19).
    2. However, even though you will not be treated in person, your Dasher will still spend time driving from their originating location to your favorite restaurant and then to your door, which is a time-consuming service in and of itself.

How Much Should I Tip My DoorDash Driver?

When determining your tip, you should keep in mind that 10 percent should be considered the very minimum.Lowering your tip to 10 percent can be indicative of below-average service, which may include occasions where your meal was noticeably shook on the journey or if your Dasher is unpleasant or dismissive in his or her approach.Tipping 5 percent less than usual will communicate your dissatisfaction with the service while without negatively impacting your Dasher’s livelihood as a whole. So, now that you’ve made the decision to tip your DoorDash Dashers, how much gratuity should you actually leave them? We’ve created a tip calculator to assist you in determining how much you should tip your DoorDash driver.Of course, the size of your final gratuity should be a reflection of the level of service provided by the courier.

    • You should expect to see a bump in your Dasher’s tip to 20 percent or greater if they are really nice, communicative, and on time.
    • The same is true for orders that need a greater effort on the part of your delivery person.
    • For example, if you have a large or heavy order, or if your courier has had to travel up several flights of stairs to get to your door, you may express your gratitude to your Dasher by tipping more than the standard amount.
    • Incidents that are beyond the control of your driver, such as restaurant products being unavailable or traffic creating delivery delays, should not be included in your service rating.
    • A gratuity of less than 10 percent is only appropriate in emergency cases that must be escalated to DoorDash’s customer support department.
    • It is possible to tip less (or nothing) in the following situations: your order was marked as delivered but did not come, your food had been tampered with, you were harassed by your courier, and so on.

How Do I Tip on DoorDash?

It is simple and convenient to tip on the DoorDash platform, and it may be done immediately on the checkout page.In the ″Dasher Tip″ section of your order information on the DoorDash app or on DoorDash.com, you should be able to pick or alter the amount of your tip before putting your order through the door.It is possible to tip on this page, but if you are unable to do so for whatever reason, you will have the option to tip on the food delivery platform once your meal has been delivered. While rating your Dasher on your app, you should be able to use this option to leave a tip after the delivery has been completed.

    Adjusting Your Tip

While a 15 percent gratuity is usually sufficient in most situations, there may be occasions when the service is so amazing or poor that you choose to increase or decrease the amount of your gratuity from your first selection. However, even if DoorDash does not enable you to manually change tips after delivery, you may easily request that the support crew do it on your behalf. All that is required of you is to contact the firm by completing and submitting its customer contact form.Remember to pick ″Post Delivery Support″ as your category and ″Adjust Dasher Tip″ as your subcategory while you are filling out the application form. Then, in the description, provide the new tip amount that you’d like to see implemented. We recommend calling DoorDash as soon as possible, even if the firm does not define a time range for when revisions can still be accepted.

    • This is due to the fact that tip payments are often handled within a day or two and may become irreversible once a Dasher has received their client tip reimbursement.

Should I Tip My Dasher in Cash?

    • One of the reasons cash tips were originally favored was due to DoorDash’s once-controversial tipping scheme, in which consumer tips were used to basically fund the driver compensation. The startup DoorDash offered guaranteed minimum payments that included tips until about the middle of 2019. As a result, tipping might help the company save money by lowering the amount of money it has to spend out of pocket. As an example, consider a guarantee of $8 per order when the base pay for a delivery is $3. Here’s how the previous tipping model might look for such scenario: $8 – $3 base pay – $0 tip = DoorDash pays the driver the difference of $5
    • $8 – $3 base pay – $3 tip = DoorDash only pays the driver the difference of $2
    • $8 – $3 base pay – $3 tip = DoorDash only pays the driver the difference of $5

DoorDash drivers would only collect their guaranteed minimum plus tip in this arrangement if they received unrecorded cash tips in addition to their guaranteed minimum. Thanks to technological advancements, this is no longer the case.Following the outcry against the company in 2019, CEO Tony Xu proposed a new payment scheme that completely isolates promotions from tips.Your tips will no longer be used to help DoorDash in any manner, but will instead be used to assist drivers completely.

Making a monetary tip to your DoorDash courier is a crucial aspect of utilizing the service and helps to secure the lives of those who work hard to make your food delivery happen.Even while DoorDash was initially criticized for having an unfair tipping scheme, Dashers are now guaranteed to get a full 100 percent of your tip money, with no loopholes, regardless of whether you tip in cash or through the DoorDash digital platform. If you work in the gig economy on more than one platform, there’s a strong possibility you’ll need to learn about tipping etiquette for the other platforms as well. What are your thoughts? Please share your opinions with us in the comments section below!

35 Texts From Food Delivery Workers That Might Make You Laugh

Food delivery people come to our rescue on Friday nights while we are at home. They bring us pizza and enable us to enjoy the pleasure of indulging in our idleness as we eat our pizza. They do, however, occasionally throw in a little something extra. There’s a Twitter account named ″Suspicious DMs″ that you should follow. It allows users to post humorous, strange, and even disturbing notes that they have received from others. Not surprisingly, delivery workers are a popular category among both the senders and the recipients of these messages.

    • The company has done everything from sending out stupid memes to promote their presence to obnoxiously flirting on a customer.
    • It’s all there for you!
    • If, on the other hand, you receive an unusual SMS from your delivery driver, don’t pass judgment on them.
    • At the very least, immediately.
    • Perhaps they are simply anxious.
    • A growing number of people are reconsidering their means of subsistence as a result of US sanctions against Russian energy, which have increased demand and driven up gasoline costs.
    1. ″Oh my God, it’s horrific,″ DoorDasher Kam Zuniga told WSMV4 in response to the incident.
    2. Moreover, she explained, ″It makes it harder because you don’t want to do it because you’re spending your money on gas, your time, and your energy, and you’re not getting paid very much.″ She went on to say that sometimes one delivery pays less than the current price of a gallon of gas, which makes the job even more difficult.
    3. Occasionally, Zuniga added, ″you get $2.75 runs with no tip on them, and you can’t feed your family or put petrol in your car because you can’t afford it.″ However, according to Daniel Smith, an economics professor at Middle Tennessee State University, costs will only rise in the future.
    4. ″The majority of the oil that the United States imports comes from Canada, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia,″ he explained.

″However, Russia supplies around 8% of our oil, so prohibiting imports from that country will undoubtedly have an impact on gas prices in the United States.″ ″The amount to which gas prices rise will, of course, be somewhat decided politically by the extent to which President Biden opens up the oil reserves,″ says the author. However, not all of them are saints, as we all know.Customers and delivery personnel were polled as part of a survey undertaken by restaurant food supplier and distributor US Foods, which sought to learn about their ″habits and pain spots″ when it came to ordering and delivering meals. The replies provided some unusual insight on topics such as how long individuals are willing to wait for their food, attitudes regarding tipping, and other topics of interest.Unfortunatelly, they also shared some unpleasant facts with the audience. For example, according to a poll of roughly 500 delivery employees, 28 percent admitted to tasting food from a customer order.

    • It appears that the lure of a delectable supper is simply too great to overcome.
    • This is especially true when it is simply sitting in your car.
    • Following the release of the survey results, a Postmates spokesperson provided the following statement to TODAY: ″At Postmates, nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our entire community, which is why we require each person who completes a delivery using Postmates to expressly agree that all food and goods delivered will arrive in a tamper-free form and in compliance with all applicable food health and safety regulations.″ According to the spokesperson, ″While reports of food tampering represent less than 0.06 percent of cases reported to our Trust & Safety team, we take any report of health safety violations extremely seriously, which is why we have built trust & security into our product design and network operations from day one.″ ″We have specific policies and community standards in place to prevent tampering; we investigate all reported order irregularities; we take prompt action against any accounts suspected of tampering with orders; and we work with any impacted customers to ensure a prompt resolution of any issues they report,″ a Postmates spokesperson said.
    1. According to the company, ″we’re also involved in active negotiations with politicians and other stakeholders to build a regulated framework for the safety of food delivery.″

    The truth about delivery fees

If you purchased a pizza from a restaurant and had it delivered, you may have noticed that the business charged you an additional delivery price. These fees can range in price from $3 to $10, but are often between $3 and $10. It may come as a surprise to you, though, because the vast majority of delivery costs go to the drivers. As a result, it should not be confused with a gratuity fee.

    Minimum delivery fees

You may also have observed that in many establishments, in order for your meal to be delivered, you must order a certain amount of money in advance. This is referred to as a bare minimum delivery cost. That this is directed towards the delivery driver should not be misconstrued in any way. With a minimum delivery fee, the restaurant will take the money up front and is not legally required to set aside any money for the driver (with a few exceptions related to the federal minimum wage). With those two considerations in mind, you can begin calculating how much to tip your pizza delivery driver for your order.

How much to tip the pizza delivery driver

    • In general, delivery orders that are less than $20 in value are given a $3 minimum gratuity. If the order totals more than $20, it is normal to compute a gratuity equal to 10 percent to 15 percent of the total (but never less than $5) of the order. Several factors might impact the amount of money you decide to leave as a gratuity (but should always follow those baseline standards). The following are examples of situations in which a greater tip amount is appropriate: Deliveries that were made during inclement weather. Heavy rain, snow, and high winds, among other things, are all dangerous for individuals who are driving. If you’re ordering pizza to avoid driving in bad weather, a decent rule of thumb is to generously tip the person who brings it to you.
    • In cases where the delivery address is greater than five miles away from the store’s physical location.
    • If the driver was extremely courteous, provided exceptional service, or came earlier than expected

    Bad delivery experience?

Is the order incorrect? Is it okay to eat cold food? Unfortunately, delivery problems happen on a regular basis. You should, at the absolute least, offer the delivery driver a tip, and then phone the business and ask to talk with a management about the situation, explaining your situation. The retailer, rather than the delivery driver, will be at blame in the vast majority of situations.

Why tipping delivery drivers is important

The majority of delivery drivers are paid the bare minimum wage or less, plus gratuities. However, when you throw in expenses such as petrol, insurance, and maintenance (resulting from the wear and tear placed on the car as a result of regular driving), these costs tend to quickly eat into any profits.Aside from that, there are several instances in which delivery drivers are forced to carry additional coverage and pay higher fees for their automobile insurance. To summarize, earning a livelihood as a pizza delivery driver can be difficult.Tips may make or kill a career opportunity!

Here’s How Much You Should Tip Your Pizza Delivery Driver – The Sauce

It’s a chilly and wet Friday night in Chicago. It’s been a long and hard work week.Your sofa and a couple of Netflix episodes are beckoning you in from the cold.Because you’re too exhausted to even think about cooking, a couple of pizzas are on their way to you. It’s the ideal way to cap off a tough week. And then, before you have a chance to finish the first episode of what you expect to be a series-long binge, your pizza delivery driver arrives.

    • She quickly hands you your two pizzas, which are still hot from the oven and ready to be devoured by your humble narrator.
    • You clench your teeth as your brain scrambles to figure out how much money you should give her: When it comes to tipping delivery drivers, what precisely is the policy?
    • Is a ten-percentage point appropriate?
    • What do you think about 20 percent?
    • In other words, is it customary for this sort of food service employee to anticipate more compensation?
    • Feeling rushed by the urgency of the situation, you dig through your wallet and hand her a handful of bills, unsure whether the sum is sufficient.
    1. Let’s face it: the act of tipping can be a difficult transaction to navigate, made even more difficult by the plethora of confusing rules and disparate tipping standards that exist throughout the service industry.
    2. However, in the United States, this is the system that we have.
    3. Here are a few pointers and general guidelines to follow in order to show your appreciation for your pizza delivery driver and make the process go as smoothly as possible for you.
    4. First and foremost, here’s a tip: Consider your delivery driver in the same way that you would consider your server in a restaurant.

The responsibilities of a delivery driver are strikingly similar to those of a restaurant server in many ways.An employee working in food delivery, similar to a server, is responsible for bringing you your meal in a timely and pleasant manner. However, despite their efforts, they are frequently not tipped at a level that is comparable to that of a member of the waitstaff.Delivery drivers check to see that your order is correct, prepare it for a smooth journey, carefully transport it to their car, and then drive it to your house. And they’re often traveling miles, sometimes through swarms of frustrating traffic or tricky weather, to ensure that you receive your food in a timely fashion. It’s a job that arguably demands as much effort — or more — as a waiter.

    • Tip No.
    • 2: The worse the weather, the more generous the tip If there’s a foot of snow on the g
