Homemade Mozzarella Sticks – Fried Mozzarella Sticks from Scratch

It’s easy to make this handmade Mozzarella Sticks dish, which is great for parties, game days, or simply a fun family supper. They are quite simple to prepare and may be frozen or prepared ahead of time for convenience. For the ideal finishing touch, serve with marinara sauce.Fried mozzarella sticks dipped in sauce are the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me.This simple dish may be readily adjusted by substituting other types of cheese, breading, or dipping sauces.

These golden, crispy, and delectable motz sticks will delight both children and adults.

How to Make Mozzarella Sticks

The process of making mozzarella sticks is quite straightforward; nonetheless, it is vital to follow the stages carefully to assure success.

  1. In a large shallow mixing basin, add all of your dry ingredients and spices and toss well to incorporate. Add the eggs and milk to a small dish in a separate location and whisk until well blended
  2. 12 inch sticks of mozzarella cheese can be made from a block of mozzarella cheese. Make them as equal as possible so that they will all cook at the same rate. If you’re using store-bought cheese sticks, you may skip this step. If you’re making your own cheese sticks, dip each one in the egg mixture, then in the breadcrumbs, and repeat. Continue until all of the sticks are thoroughly coated, then transfer to a large plate or cookie sheet to set aside.
  3. Place the dish of coated cheese sticks in the freezer for at least 2 hours, or until the cheese is firm.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a big, deep pan over medium heat until the oil reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit or is shimmering
  5. after the frozen vegetables are ready.
  6. Fry the handmade mozzarella sticks in the oil for about 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden-brown and crispy. With tongs, carefully flip the sticks over and repeat the process on the other side. After the cheese stick has been cooked, gently take it from the oil and lay it on a tray lined with paper towels. Continue in this manner until all of the mozzarella sticks have been cooked. Serve while still heated with marinara sauce or your favorite sauce.

Air Fryer Option

In comparison to the traditional frying method, making homemade mozzarella sticks in an air fryer is not only easier, but it is also cleaner and healthier. When air frying mozzarella sticks, you’ll want to follow the same preparation steps as you would for regular mozzarella sticks, including the 2-hour freeze period.Frozen mozzarella sticks are ready to be air fried once they have been frozen.Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to get started. This is necessary in order to prevent the cheese from being too hot and oozing out of the breeding.

Temperature of the oil: When heating the oil, it is best to heat it to 350-365 degrees Fahrenheit.Using a candy thermometer is the most straightforward method of accomplishing this. There is no need to be concerned if you do not have this or something comparable.Consider placing the sticks in oil while it is shimmering and starting with one at a time to evaluate the temperature.Cooking spray should be sprayed into the basket of your air fryer before adding the mozzarella sticks, making sure not to overcrowd them.Spray the tops of the sticks with cooking spray before placing them in the air fryer to finish cooking.

Once you have hit the start button, adjust your oven temperature to 375 degrees F and bake for 6-8 minutes (or until golden brown), turning halfway through.Once done, remove from the oven and serve immediately with marinara sauce or other sauce of choice.

Other Cheese Options

The mozzarella cheese used in traditional mozzarella sticks is, of course, mozzarella cheese. After all, it’s right there in the name!If you want to experiment with other cheeses for this mozzarella sticks dish, cheddar cheese, colby jack cheese, and pepper jack cheese are all excellent choices. When switching out the cheese, there is no need to adjust the breading because it will mix in perfectly with all of them.Add a few more spices or herbs that suit the dish, such as chili powder with pepper jack for fiery fried cheese!!

You may also use cheese sticks instead of buying a block of cheese and slicing the cheese yourself. Both recipes are excellent, however purchasing the cheese sticks will save you time and effort in the kitchen. This is also the one instance in which I strongly advise against using handmade mozzarella or extra artisanal mozzarella that has been brined.Because you don’t want any additional moisture in your cheese sticks, the dry, firm variety is really preferable. You’re in luck since it’s also less expensive!

Mozzarella Sticks Breading

When it comes to breading, I like to utilize the holy trinity of breadcrumbs, Panko, and flour for my mozzarella stick recipe. This combination, in my opinion, produces the ideal crispy crust while also preventing the cheese from seeping out.Alternatively, you can utilize a mix of two or three of the items on this list.Use flour and breadcrumbs to make a mozzarella stick that is more conventional and smooth.Panko and flour can be used to create a crispier and crunchier shell.

A double dip will be required when breading the handmade mozzarella sticks in order to achieve a good, thick covering of breadcrumbs and egg.Ensure that you cover all of the edges and sides of the pan so that the cheese does not leak out.

Mozzarella Stick Sauce

The most traditional sauce to serve with mozzarella sticks is, of course, marinara sauce. You may either create your own from scratch or purchase a pre-made brand from a grocery shop. Salsa, ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, cheese sauce, Queso, and meat sauce are all good options for dipping the sticks in instead of the typical ranch dressing.

Make Ahead

Making mozzarella sticks from scratch is a great way to save time while entertaining. Make a simple breading for the mozzarella sticks and place them in the freezer until you’re ready to fry them up. Preparing a large quantity at a time and storing half of it in the freezer for up to three months is my favorite method. I’ll be able to have fresh, handmade mozzarella sticks anytime I like.

Storage and Freezing Instructions

Leftover fried cheese sticks can be kept in the fridge for up to 4 days if they are stored in an airtight container. To reheat, use either the microwave or the oven until the food is just warm.If you are reheating them, keep an eye on them to ensure that they do not become too hot and the cheese begins to ooze out the sides. It is essential to freeze mozzarella sticks made from scratch, and they must be frozen after being bred for at least 2 hours. If you skip the freezing step or cut it short, your cheese will most likely seep out, which is something no one wants.

Great protein snack

It is evident that the other reviews were not aware of what they were purchasing and as a result, they are critiquing the product. This is not a chew that is solid. It is extremely porous, and as a result, it will be chewed on like a bone before being swallowed. It’s advisable to do it outside or in an area where you won’t mind vacuuming afterward because it will crumble. My pit bull can get through it very quickly, so I give him these treats on two different days to spread out his snack time.

He has a tendency to become distracted, so I am able to remove it away from him around midway through and put it up for later.I believe it would be ideal for a smaller dog if you were able to remove it from the situation for another day.Otherwise, it can be too much to consume in one sitting. On October 16, 2021, Crumbler wrote:

Cruncher is a Crumbler.

This is not a difficult chew. Not recommended – we purchased two of these for our German Shepherd mixed Labs, and they crumbed into larger pieces within a minute, increasing the danger of chocking or blockage in the stomach. They were thrown away without further delay.Normally, I enjoy all of the Bones and Chews products. We didn’t care for this one at all.

Items are larger than they appear

I got this for a fantastic bargain, expecting it to be 3-4 inches long and wondered where they were able to get such little water buffaloes. Instead, I received a massive (8 inches or so) thick chunk of horn, which my dog enjoys chewing. On January 7, 2021, Katie posted a message.

Not for a power chewer

My dog absolutely like this cruncher, but as he nibbled on it, it broke apart into little, jagged bits, so I had to be extremely careful to keep an eye on him as he ate it. As a 100-pound lab mix with powerful jaws, this may be a better option for a smaller dog who would not be able to break this into tiny bits on his own. On December 1, 2020, 3baddogchews posted

Unhappy Chewer

These were given to a 20lb corgi as a treat. In 15 minutes, it had been eaten down and spread across her cage. I had to toss away the remainder of it. Now I just have two left and I’m not even sure I want to give them away. So I figured this would keep her occupied while I was away. I will not be purchasing this item again. DON’T LAST

It was a complete letdown. The floor was covered with flaking and disintegrated pieces. I had hoped that they would be more durable than the other items I had purchased. I was wrong. It is not something I would suggest. Chevy sent a message on December 15, 2020.

Very textured and salt like crust

Chevy was adamant about not liking this water buffalo bone chew. He took a smell and then decided not to touch it. I would not suggest it. Dog who is really dissatisfied Fido posted on October 2, 2020

Disappointed

I have two dogs: a Lab puppy and a Beagle/Cockapoo mix that is an adult. I gave them both one and had to remove them from the premises right away. They began to break off in chunks, and the bits were extremely sharp. Maybe we got a poor batch of something? I’m not sure, but it’s not healthy for them in any way.
