Joseppi’s Pizza, Serving Columbus Since 1969

Chuck Thompson has worked in the pizza industry for the most of his adult life.He was raised in the back room of Joseppi’s Pizza, which his father owned in Columbus, Ohio, where he had a bed built for him as a youngster.Robert Thompson established the business in 1969 and taught Chuck how to cook a pizza when he was just four years old, according to the Thompson family. As a result of his many years of expertise, Chuck and his father had intended for him to take over the restaurant after his father retired; nevertheless, things transpired far sooner than they had anticipated.

Chuck’s father was murdered in a motorcycle accident a few years ago, so he sold his trucking firm and bought the two-store business to carry on his father’s heritage, even if it was a year sooner than intended.Getting your name out there as the greatest pizza in town is a difficult challenge.Joseppi’s Pizza owner Chuck Thompson learned that the greatest way to grow his business is not via advertising, but through fierce rivalry with other local businesses.

  • ″As a team, we participated in the Columbus Pizza Challenge in 1999 and took first place in all three categories.
  • The fact that any restaurant has accomplished this in the ten years that the challenge has been running is significant ″Chuck goes into more detail.
  • One of the most enjoyable aspects of this competition was the fact that one of the category judges was a representative from a local radio station.
  • Consider the free PR you’ll receive as a result of delighting the taste buds of a local radio jockey—probably there’s no better way to get the word out about your pizza than by having a pleased DJ.

However, as Chuck adds, the winning did not end there ″We also competed in the Grove City Pizza Olympics, where we were awarded the Gold Medal for having the greatest crust and toppings on the pizza. In addition, we just won first place in the Gourmet Pizza category at the Mid-America Restaurant, Soft Serve, and Pizza Show in Indianapolis.″ Since Joseppi’s Pizza’s success in these events, the company’s name has been widely publicized throughout the United States. The restaurant was not only covered by local media, but it was also featured in the December 1999 issue of Pizza Today and was selected the Restaurant of the Month on Okidata’s web site.Is there a secret to Joseppi’s success in winning all of these pizza competitions?″I believe that the reason our pizza is so popular is that we create our own dough and sauce from scratch every day.

We also manufacture our own sausage, which is something that not many restaurants can boast about. And our best kept secret is that we are committed to delivering our consumers with only the greatest pizza possible, and that we are constantly on the lookout for fresh ideas ″Chuck makes his declaration.Be on the lookout for this rapidly developing pizzeria, which possesses all of the necessary components for success, including a strong family dedication as well as award-winning pizza and, most importantly, the traditions passed down from Chuck’s father.

The pizzas are crammed with toppings, and the dough holds up well under the weight of the toppings. I could only manage to finish two of the nine pieces. We received precisely what we wanted, and the toppings are first-rate. I believe this has supplanted my previous favorite pizza in the city. Oh, and the shipping was lightning fast!

  • Since I was a child, I’ve been helping my mother make handmade pizzas for our family.
  • My spouse ordered them almost every weekend after we were married, so I had to oblige.
  • One difficulty, though, was that the pizza dough recipe that I had grown up with wasn’t one that I was particularly fond of.
  • As a result, I set out to create the greatest pizza dough recipe available.

Because I make handmade pizza on a nearly weekly basis, I’ve had my fair share of failures and successes, but I can firmly declare that THIS IS IT!!!

How to Make Homemade Pizza Dough:

1.Allow the yeast to proof.Proof the yeast by dissolving it in warm water with sugar and allowing it to settle for approximately 5 minutes.(If the yeast does not froth up as shown in photo step 1, then the yeast is bad.

) 2.Begin by making the dough. After that, add additional water, salt, vinegar, and olive oil until you reach your desired consistency.

  • As you knead the dough on a medium-low pace for around 7 minutes, gradually incorporate the flour.
  • 3.
  • Allow for an increase in temperature.
  • To make the pizza dough, cover it with plastic wrap and let it aside for 1 to 12 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

4.Depending on whether you want to make thin crust pizzas or a thicker, chewier pizza crust, divide the dough into 2-3 balls.Personal preference: I prefer to split my pizza dough recipe into three portions since I prefer thin crust pizza.5.Form the dough into a pizza shape.

Lightly spray or lightly dust your work surface with cooking spray or flour to make it easier to clean.Roll and stretch the dough until it reaches the required size using a rolling pin or with your hands.Prick the surface of the dish with a fork.6.

Preheat the oven to 350°F.Before pre-baking my pizza dough, I preheat the oven with a pizza stone in the bottom of the oven.If you don’t have a pizza stone, you may make due with a baking pan (such as a cookie sheet) that has been flipped upside down.

After that, I spread cornmeal on my pizza peel and arrange the crust on top of it, after which I slide the crust onto the heated baking stone to finish baking.Instead of using a pizza peel, you may lay the pizza dough on a piece of parchment paper and lift it onto a heated pizza stone or baking dish using a spatula. If you’re seeking for a pizza crust recipe that’s even more nutritious, try my amazing and tasty Wheat Pizza Crust!

Tips for perfect pizza dough:

1.Allow the yeast to proof for at least one hour.2.Proof the yeast by dissolving it in warm water with sugar and allowing it to settle for 5 minutes.

(If the yeast does not froth up as shown in photo step 1, then the yeast is bad.) a Making the dough is step two. After that, add more water, salt, vinegar, and olive oil until the mixture is moistened well.Knit on a medium-low speed for about 7 minutes, gradually adding the flour as you knead the dough.

  • Let it ascend on its own accord.
  • Place a cover over the pizza dough and allow it to rise for one to one and a half hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  • 4 Depending on whether you want to make thin crust pizzas or a thicker, chewier pizza crust, divide the dough into 2-3 balls.
  • Personal preference: I like to split my pizza dough recipe into three portions since I prefer thin crust pizza.

To make a pizza, roll the dough into a log.Cooking spray or a small dusting of flour can be used to prepare your work area.Roll and stretch the dough to the appropriate size using a rolling pin or with your hands.A fork should be used to puncture the skin all throughout.Prepare the oven by preheating it to 350 degrees F.

I pre-heat the oven with a pizza stone inside before pre-baking my pizza crust.Alternatively, if you don’t have a pizza stone, you might use an upside-down baking dish (such as a cookie sheet). After that, I spread cornmeal on my pizza peel and set the crust on top of it, after which I slide the crust onto the hot baking stone to finish baking it.Instead of using a pizza peel, you can lay the pizza dough on a piece of parchment paper and lift it onto a heated pizza stone or baking pan with your hands.

If you’re seeking for a pizza dough recipe that’s even healthier, try my amazing and tasty Wheat Pizza Crust recipe!

2.Allow it to RISE!It’s critical that you let the pizza dough to rise for an extended period of time.Despite the fact that I’ve tried numerous ″no-rise″ or ″15-minute″ pizza crust recipes, none of them have come close to the flavor of this one.

Making the dough the night before and letting it rise in the fridge, in an airtight container, overnight will save you time and allow you to create more pizza.3.Make sure the flour is fresh!

  • Although the recipe calls for bread flour, all-purpose flour will work just as well in this recipe as bread flour.
  • If you want to make your pizza crust using whole wheat flour, check out my Whole Wheat Pizza Crust Recipe!
  • 4.
  • To add a little flavor: A basic pizza dough recipe is provided, but you may customize the flavor by adding spices to make it more tasty.

At step number 2 below, I occasionally add a couple of dashes of garlic powder, dried basil, and oregano to taste.5.When rolling out the dough: It’s normal practice to roll out pizza dough on a floured surface, but I prefer to spray my counter with non-stick spray instead of flour to make rolling out the dough easier.Excess flour will not make the dough tough in this manner, and it will be quite simple to stretch the dough with your hands. You may also use a rolling pin to form the dough into a circle or the shape of your choice, but I find that using my hands is just as simple and effective.

Make Ahead And Freezing Instructions:

To prepare ahead of time: Option 1: Knead the dough until it is ready for the first rise.Place the dough in an airtight container in the refrigerator to rise overnight or for several hours before spreading it out and baking it in the oven for the first time.2nd option: Completely prepare the pizza dough, including pre-baking it for 6 minutes in the oven before using it.Top with selected pizza toppings, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and place in the refrigerator for several hours or until you are ready to bake your pizza.

To freeze the dough, do the following: Form a ball out of the dough and lightly coat it all over with cooking spray.Refrigerate it for up to 3 months after wrapping it in plastic wrap and putting it in a ziplock freezer bag.Place the frozen pizza dough in the refrigerator overnight to defrost, and then roll it out when you are ready to pre-bake the pizza.

  • To freeze the pre-baked crust, first let it to cool fully before wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap and tinfoil and storing it in your freezer for up to 3 months.
  • Only the pre-baked crust without the toppings should be frozen!

Pizza dough, as it is traditionally prepared in Italy. When I first arrived in Italy, I was taken aback by the fact that ordering a pizza for dinner required preparing the dough with a few basic ingredients a couple of hours in advance. It takes one hour to rise when using fresh, compacted yeast. There’s no need to order takeout when the dough is this stretchy, chewy, and flavorful.

Calzone and focaccia can both be made with this dough, and the recipe easily doubles in quantity!Advertisement

The original recipe makes four servings. The ingredient list has been updated to match the number of servings stated.

Directions

Cook’s Notes:

Make sure to weigh your ingredients so that you get the most accurate results.500 gm flour, 10 gm salt, 12gm fresh yeast, 300 ml water, and 35 gm olive oil are all you need.Alternatively, for calzones, roll the dough into 8-inch circles; for thick-crust, family-sized pizza, use the entire amount of dough and roll it to fit a big, rectangular sheet pan (see note) (the one that comes with the oven). To freeze dough, follow these steps: Individual portions of dough should be wrapped and frozen.

Refrigeration for 8 hours or on the counter for 4 hours will both work to defrost the frozen food successfully. When making saucy pizza, bake the dough for 5 to 7 minutes to help it firm up on the bottom before adding the toppings and finishing it off in the oven.

How Many Pizzas Do I Need? What To Order For Your Next Pizza Party

Pizza is served boiling hot and hearty, and it has the ability to bring people together with a single mouthful of crispy, cheesy perfection.Pizza is a popular dish to serve for every occasion, no matter how you slice it.Pizza night is a special occasion, and you don’t want to get caught short with your pies. For your convenience, we’ve put up the following chart to assist you in determining how many pizzas you should purchase to satiate the hunger of your family and friends.

Start With the Basics

  • Before you go into the specifics, you need consider the following fundamentals: What is the estimated number of persons you will be serving?
  • How many adults and children are going to be eating pizza tonight?
  • Is pizza the only thing you’ll be offering, or will there be other dishes as well?
  • Do you want to send a few slices home with visitors, or do you want to make enough for yourself and some friends?

Once you’ve figured out the answers to these questions, you can start delving into the delectable details while calculating how many pizzas you’ll need to purchase.

Figure Out the Slices Per Size

  • The size of the pizza you purchase will impact the number of slices that may be expected to be served by each pie: Small pizzas are typically between 8 and 10 inches in diameter and generate around six pieces each pie.
  • Typically, medium-sized pizzas are 12 inches in diameter and provide around eight pieces.
  • Approximately 10 slices will be provided by large pizzas, which are 14 inches in diameter.
  • In the United States, extra-large pizzas are 16 to 18 inches in diameter and will serve at least 12 people.

Please call ahead of time to confirm the quantity of slices per size for your pizzas before you place your order.

Don’t Underestimate Appetites

Obviously, if Uncle Joe can finish half of a medium-sized pizza and still be hungry, you know that a single pie will not suffice for your gathering.Despite the fact that it might be difficult to predict how many slices individuals will consume, it is important not to underestimate anyone’s appetite. When calculating the number of pizzas to order, three slices per adult and two slices each child is a decent starting point from which to build your estimate. If you know ahead of time that you will have visitors with large appetites for pizza, plan on one or two extra pieces per person just to be on the safe side.

If your pizzas will be smaller in size or have a very thin crust, make sure to allow for an additional slice per person in your calculations. The following is an alternative method of calculating the number of pizzas you’ll need, based on a medium pizza size (eight slices) as an example:

  1. Make a calculation based on the number of guests you’ll be feeding and multiply the amount of slices per adult or two slices per youngster
  2. This quantity should be multiplied by the number of slices you may anticipate to obtain from the pizza size you’ve chosen.

For example, if you’re feeding five adults who will each have three slices of pizza, you’ll need to purchase two medium pizzas based on the above method.

Consider the Occasion

It’s critical to consider the time of day as well as the meal itself when planning your menu.If you’re planning a pizza-only lunch for two to four individuals, one big pizza should be sufficient for the occasion. When putting up a Sunday sports day spread of chips, dips, wings, and other finger foods to serve eight people, you may want to consider ordering two, three, or four pizzas to fill out your spread, especially if the event is going to linger for a lengthy period of time.Pizza and children’s parties go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Pizzas in the medium size range are ideal for this sort of gathering.Rather than the typical eight slices per pizza, request that your medium pizzas be cut into 10 pieces when you place your order. However, even if you’re focused on providing food for kids, some parents may want a slice or two while they’re picking up and dropping off their children.

Top Off Your Planning With Toppings

  • Nobody likes to get into a squabble about pizza toppings. Pizza toppings, on the other hand, continue to be a topic of contention among pizza purists. According to a YouGov study conducted in 2019, pepperoni is the most popular pizza topping among 52 percent of Americans, with sausage coming in at number three on the list at 34 percent and mushrooms coming in at number three at 31 percent. Bacon and plain cheese were only two of the top three choices among the 20 percent of pizza eaters who took part in the poll. Before placing your order for pizza, gather your family’s input on their preferred toppings in order to prevent a pizza-fighting situation. If all you have to deal with is simple cheese, pepperoni, sausage, and peppers to serve three people, then one pizza should be more than enough space to do the job. Consider the following example: one large pizza might be divided into three thirds basic cheese, one-third pepperoni, and one-third sausage and peppers. Don’t forget about the people who enjoy simple cheese pizzas. You should save around one-third to one-half of your pizzas as basic cheese if you’re buying numerous pizzas for your gathering. Pequod’s also provides a delicious selection of vegetarian pizzas to choose from. Keep the following considerations in mind while choosing your pizza toppings: When making specialty pizzas with a mixture or range of toppings, it is vital to know the toppings your guests love before you begin. If you’re unsure, don’t be hesitant to ask for clarification. In any other case, you may find yourself with a lot of leftovers.
  • The addition of additional toppings, such as more than two toppings per pizza, will result in a somewhat thicker pizza than the same pizza with a single topping. Extra toppings on your pizza, when combined with speciality or thicker crusts, will give each slice more bulk than a thin-crust pizza with a single topping.

Know How to Place Your Order for a Group

  • Parties and family get-togethers with a dozen or more guests necessitate the following specific considerations: Choose the biggest pizza size that is available: Despite the fact that an extra-large pizza will be more expensive than a medium pizza, the cost per slice will be less expensive than pizzas of a smaller diameter. Your order’s overall price will be lower as a consequence of this reduction.
  • To prepare for expected leftovers, gather the following ingredients:
  • Consider how many visitors may ask for a piece or two to take home with them once they have finished their meal. After all, pizza tastes just as good the next day as it does the day after that – even for breakfast. When placing your order, round up to the next dollar and request an additional pie.

Another word of caution: it takes time to create the perfect pizza for your visitors. The fact that you’ve ordered in advance of your party provides the opportunity for your preferred delivery crew to have the time they need to cook your pizzas just the way you want them.Is it still unclear how many pizzas you should order? You may just place an order from Pequod’s Pizza the next time you’re hosting a meeting in the Chicago or Morton Grove areas, and we’ll work with you to determine exactly what you want.

How Big is a Large Pizza (and How Many It Feeds)

No matter if you’re organizing a large party or simply want some pizza to munch on as you watch sports, one common question you may have is how big is a large pizza.Despite the fact that every pizza restaurant is different, practically all big pizzas are 14 inches in diameter and include 10 pieces.Hello, hello, and again, hello! My name is Michelle, and I am a major fan of the deliciousness that is pizza.

There is a good chance that I have eaten at every pizza shop within a 20-mile radius. To be quite honest, every huge is a little bit different, but the fundamentals are always the same. And that’s exactly what I’m here to talk about with you today!

  • We are all familiar with the concept of a huge pizza.
  • Want to know what a huge pizza is, though, without having to order one?
  • Then this is the article that you’ve been looking for.
  • We’re going to take a deep dive into the world of enormous pizzas to figure out how big they really are, as well as some other interesting information you might find interesting.

How Big is a Large Pizza?

This much I will say before we begin: every pizza shop will be unique. My friends and I have purchased enormous pizzas and exclaimed, ″Wow, this is a giant pizza?″ in a joyful tone. Also, I’ve stated things like, ″Wow, that’s a big pizza.″ in a sarcastic tone. That, in my opinion, speaks for itself.

We’re going to start with the fundamentals today. However, while certain pizza establishments may have a completely different interpretation of the term ″big,″ you can almost always count on a large pizza being 14 inches in diameter.

How Many Slices in a Large Pizza?

The thickness of the slices might also vary depending on the pizza joint. Some restaurants specialize on teeny-tiny pieces.Seriously.One of the local pizza joints near my house cuts its pizza slices so thin that you have to eat three pieces to obtain a ″regular″ slice of pizza to satisfy your hunger.

Some establishments, on the other hand, believe on serving large portions of food.It is entirely up to the organization. The good news about XL slices is that you can always chop them into smaller pieces if you find yourself in this situation.

  • Despite the fact that every pizza restaurant cuts their pizzas differently, the average number of slices in a large pizza is 10 slices.

How Many People Can a Large Pizza Feed?

There are a couple of things to consider in this situation, to begin with.A big pizza has 10 pieces, and a medium pizza has eight.Consequently, you might theoretically feed up to 10 people, however I would not advocate attempting to do so at this time. There is just not enough pizza to satisfy everyone’s appetite, especially grownups.

I propose that you serve a large pizza to no more than five people if you make a large pizza.Every guest will receive at least two slices of pizza as a result of this arrangement. If you know you will be hosting a group of heavy eaters, you may want to limit the portions to three persons per large pizza – three slices apiece – rather than four (and a fight for the last slice).

FAQs

As a result, it’s rather straightforward. A big pizza is 14 inches in circumference and contains 10 pieces. Are you still dissatisfied with your purchase? All OK, all right. Don’t be concerned. I’ve compiled a list of some of the most often asked questions in order to make you feel better. Let’s get started!

How big is large Domino’s pizza?

A big Domino’s pizza is 13.5 inches in circumference. See? There are several pizza places that do not adhere to the normal 14-inch-per-large-pizza regulation. Domino’s, on the other hand, still includes 10 pieces in its 13.5-inch ″large″ pizza, therefore the serving size remains same.

Is a 12-inch pizza a large?

The answer is no, a 12-inch pizza does not qualify as a big pizza. Most of the time, a 12-inch pizza refers to a medium-sized pizza. These 12-inch marvels come with eight slices and are large enough to serve two to four people at a time with ease.

How big is a large pizza at Pizza Hut?

Pizza Hut ″follows the guidelines″ and makes enormous pizzas with a 14-inch circumference that are served to customers.

Are 2 Medium pizzas bigger than a large?

Despite the fact that this is a difficult topic, I will reply that two medium pizzas are not significantly larger than a large pizza. With two mediums, you do get a few more slices of pizza, to be sure. Those slices, on the other hand, are much smaller than the slices seen on a big pizza. I recommend taking the long, winding road with multiple sides.

What is the most popular pizza size?

It’s the 14-inch, or giant, pizza, as you would have predicted. This is due to the fact that you simply can’t go wrong with a huge. You’ll be getting additional slices in the future. They’re going to be thicker slices this time. By choosing the largest, you will be able to get the most value for your money. And who doesn’t like a good laugh?

Final Words

If you’re on the fence about ordering a big pizza, go ahead and get one.A huge pizza is a large pizza that is typically 14 inches in diameter and comes with 10 generously sized pieces of cheese and sauce.Do you like to eat huge pizzas? What is the size of the pizza, and how many slices are included?

Please share your enormous pizza-related anecdotes with us in the comments section below.Since I was a child, I’ve been a huge fan of sweets. This prompted me to go on a self-taught baking quest that began when I was thirteen years old.

  • Over ten years have passed since I began my baking experiences, and I’ve gained a great deal of knowledge along the road.
  • People now clamor for my wonderful sweets, whether it’s a chocolate cake or a strawberry crepe, and I’m thrilled.

Pizza math: For the best price, you should always order the biggest pie

For fun, calculate the difference between a 16-inch pizza and an 8-inch pizza. If you replied with a number that was double the size of the question, we may have to send you in for some remedial arithmetic. It is four times the size of an 8-inch pizza to make a 16-inch pizza. It is important to be big.

An thorough analysis undertaken by NPR looked at the costs of 3,678 pizza shops across the United States, utilizing data from Grubhub Seamless as a starting point. This possibly contradictory conclusion was reached after analyzing the price per square inch of several pizza alternatives. The results indicated that ordering the big pizza is always the best option since it will be cheaper per square inch.

  • Despite the fact that a 16-inch pizza is four times the size of an 8-inch pizza, the larger pizza will cost significantly less than four times the price of the smaller pizza.
  • In spite of the fact that we definitely expect a discount per unit (in this example, the square inch for pizza), our inability to grasp the size difference in a timely manner may cause the pricing disparities to appear less significant than they actually are.
  • (I go into further detail on Pizza Hut pricing later in this essay.) It is not always easy to determine the value we receive per unit simply by looking at it — which is why grocery stores often display a price-per-unit for their customers.

The size of a pizza pie

For example, if you want to know the size of a pizza pie, you must physically utilize the number pi (pi) in the computation. If it has been a long since you sat in an uncomfortable seat with an a2 pencil, you might be surprised to learn that the symbol for is around 3.14159.The area of the pizza is calculated using the formula r2.The radius, denoted by R, is half the diameter.

r (radius)=8 inches for a 16-inch pizza.In this case, the calculation is 3.14159 * (8 squared) = 201.061768-inch pizza:r (radius)=4inches 3.14159 * (4 squared
